2014-2015 University of Cincinnati Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
apparently Cincinnati is getting gigabit internet (not from Google though), so even more reason to go there....... 😀

First II! :soexcited:

II received 8/21, secondary submitted 7/10. Congrats to all others with IIs, and for those awaiting their first one, it's coming! You just gotta have faith! 🙂

Congrats! Are you in-state, and when were you complete (not secondary submitted date, but what date does it say for "file complete")? Thanks!

Thanks! I am in-state, and I'm not positive when I was marked complete…I don't have a complete email in my inbox, and I am having trouble finding the complete date on my MedOneStop profile….do you know where that would be listed?

You can find your complete date at the bottom of your application status page. It should say "UC On-Line Secondary Application received ______"

I don't know a lot about UC, but this is my first II and I'm very excited! Does anyone know the city or school really well and want to share some fun facts? II came about a week ago, it's for the Oct 15th session.

My UG school held onto my materials forever! (They do a "composite.") I was finally marked complete on August 11 and got my II August 23. I am excited. . .it is the only one so far.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, it also says for Application Complete: July 10, 2014. (My letters of rec were already in, and I had already been verified by AMCAS, so maybe that had something to do with the same-day complete marking)

That's a very broad question, and as it's late/I'm exhausted my response is kind of all over the place. Feel free to ask other questions/PM me.

Cincinnati: In the past few years the downtown area has exploded with new restaurants and bars. UC's campus is a few miles north of the downtown area, but a short drive. Because it's such an old city it also has a lot of character, as opposed to a younger city like Columbus (insert angry Ohio State fan in 3...2...1...). Bengals & the Reds are big, lots of beer festivals (namely Oktoberfest, the 2nd biggest after Munich) and lots of local breweries. Rent is cheap in Cincinnati; you can live in the nicest parts of town for 700-800 for a good size 1br.

The school itself...it's P/F for the first 2 years (but ranked into 1/5's!), lots of research opportunities. The administration is very receptive to things we want changed. The M3s ROCKED their boards. Clinical experiences...early exposure & we do 2 acting internships in 4th year vs 1 at most other schools.

Wow, thanks! That was really helpful. I'm not a fan of bars/beer, but it sounds like it could be a really fun place to study and live for med school! Can't wait to visit in October.

Plug for the arts, as well - symphony, ballet, Broadway tours all great. Lots of local music and theatre happenings, too, especially with UC's Conservatory!

Thanks so much for all the info. Much appreciated!

I've also heard a lot of great things about Cincy growth and excitement in the past 10 years from a relative who lives there. An exciting time for all of us to be "Bearcat MD" candidates!

Did anyone get II receive a confirmation email after you scheduled your date?

That's what I was wondering too! Because I included stuff I'll be doing this fall on my AMCAS too, do we have to put stuff? Also, how much lower does our science GPA have to be than our cumulative for it to be significant? (Mine are pretty close, within .05 of each other)

Mines are all within 0.05 as well... I'm not sure how to explain this to be honest.

I am an instate applicant. Do you all think it is too late to add UC? I am verified and have two interviews already.

cool guys! do they reject via email, snail mail, or the deadly silence?

Quite interesting! I believe there are quite a few non-trdas applying to med schools each year. I guess this school is not a big fan of non-trads then.
Patently not true.

You guys are committing the classic correlation=causation error. UC skews young, but don't confuse who is ADMITTED with who ATTENDS (trust me, nobody here has the #s on admitted by age cohort).

As an accepted but deferred last year nontrad applicant I can say UC accepts and matriculates a good group of nontrads.

I did. . .weeks ago, and haven't heard anything since.

I did as well...what date are your currently interviewing? I really have to wonder how many people do the standby option...

I will be there October 15, looks like. Since I work, mid-week is difficult, but that must be true for many folks.

I completely agree. In fact, more students who are over the age of 30 matriculated this year than in the past. As a public school, UC is obligated to have 2/3 of the class be Ohio residents. This probably has the greatest impact on skewing applicant and matriculant demographics.

Congrats to everyone getting II's! Any recommendations on how to best prepare for MMI?

Congrats! It looks like interviews are underway since I saw a couple groups touring the anatomy lab today. @medflyer19 on page 3 of this thread I posted a few videos that I found helpful when I interviewed last year, post #147. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Good luck!
