2014-2015 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If people have questions regarding tracks feel free to pm me and I will try to assist you guys 🙂

Edit: You can only be in one track. The electives and other activities can coincide and they require some, if not all, of your summer between the MS1 and MS2 year

I'm trying to find more information about the medical school. I'm trying to find out what makes the school "unique".

It has been quite a search through their site, is there a simple viewbook somewhere that I am missing?

I would go to the home page for the school of medicine initially. There are a lot of good links under the Community (Points of Pride, AHEC, etc), Education, and the Department/Center/Institute tabs. If you are interested you could also discuss the Honor Code at UCSOM.

I got it too! But... 2000 word essay?! I hope they mean characters.... That's a CRAZY LONG essay if not!
Is anyone else doing about half this many words? 2,000 words is insane! Not because I don't want to write that much, but because it's impossible to keep something that long from turning into a long and boring life story research paper.

I did 1200 and felt that was plenty.

I a little more than a thousand. It is a limit, if you really need all the space. I don't think you have to try to use it all just because it is there.

I ended up writing about 1400 words. I think if your essay is well-written, meaningful, gives your interviewers some interesting info about you as a person, and is somewhere in the 1000-2000 word ballpark, you'll be fine.

Anyone try submitting with a fee waiver? My fee waiver doesn't show up.
Submitted my app and nothing was mentioned about my waiver.

They do mention here that, "fee waivers are automatically granted to applicants who have an AMCAS fee waiver (now obtained through the AAMC Fee Assistance Program). This information is forwarded to us by AMCAS." So, I am assuming they have it under control. It wouldn't hurt to e-mail them though... but I won't be.

I submitted on the 4th and am under review as of the 11th. I'm IS though.
Where did you see your status? I just submitted my secondary and payment, but under the "check status" section it still says, "We have received your AMCAS application and will begin processing it as soon as we receive your completed CU Online Secondary Application and Fee." I'm guessing its not instantaneous.

It took over a week to process my payment.

It took a few days. They pretty much add new entries once they process stuff.

Do you think it makes a difference for our application if we apply to CU-Unite or the Rural Track program on our secondary app? I am definitely planning on doing one of the Tracks if I get into CU, but am not certain which one yet.

I know they actually try to fill them with applicants. So if you are interested, you should apply with your secondary.

It makes no difference to your chances of acceptance. If you are interested in one of those tracks, you'll be ahead if you apply with your secondary. Otherwise you wait and apply to the tracks after matriculation.

Is any one else OOS and still have:
We have received your CU Online Secondary Application and will begin processing it once payment is received.
As their status update? Note: Submitted payment on 7/22

Mine is the same, however, I submitted on 8/11 and had a FAP waiver.

Just an FYI... If you are interested in applying to CU-UNITE or the Rural Track do so in your secondary since they are typically already full by the time you matriculate. You cannot apply to any of the other tracks until after matriculation.

Also, if anyone wants more info on the Colorado Springs Branch feel free to PM me.

So when invites are sent out, will they also post rejections? Or do they just leave you hanging like most other schools?

Spoke with admissions office today. They told me the technical difficulties they experienced for the word count error from like July 21-27 or something like that maybe it was 21-25 caused more difficulty than just having people resubmit. They told me they put everyone's app on hold who submitted during that time and that now that they have finished first week orientation for the incoming class the dean is figuring out how to handle our situation. He reassured me that the issue was on their end, and that it will not be held against us but that they currently do not have a timeline for progress.

This at least makes me feel better since my status hasn't changed at all!

They said today on the phone that interview decisions will be made this week for all the apps that are "inline", and no interview invites have been issued yet.

"In line" meaning those that were submitted after the word count issue was fixed?

My status changed today to my application being under review! Hopefully this means that I'm somewhere in that line 😀

I think he meant everyone with the status of ready for review, not sure of the word count thing, but I can't imagine they would penalize you for their error!

8/15/2014 We have received your CU Online Secondary Application and will begin processing it once payment is received. [Note: Payment processing may take 7-10 days.]
8/20/2014 We have received your CU Online Secondary Application payment. Your application is under review by the Admissions Committee.

for the secondary essay, did anyone divide their essay into part A and part B, instead of one single essay?

I'm 100% sure that's not how they want it to be done. I called the admissions office and asked, and they said they expect one essay with both topics covered.

II. Number one choice but I already have another interview scheduled for 9/5. What to do? Hurt chances if I request a new date?

Kinda just wanna do everything they say though haha. And also would like to hear from them early. IS 35 c3.8 s3.9
Hahahaha me too. I want to be eligible for an October acceptance! Also, I applied CU-UNITE but their info doesn't have anything about it...
