2014-2015 University of Colorado Application Thread

Does anyone have a ballpark percentage of how many of the acceptances are given out in March? Like 25%, 50%?
This is something that changes year to year, so there's no reliable percentages. CUSOM has had some turnover in the admissions office in the last few years, as well as combining of offices and responsibilities. Thus, even if we had data from previous years, it wouldn't necessarily be applicable this year. I believe it's safe to say that the largest group of acceptances will be made in March, but that is not the end of the story, either. There tends (again, historical data = same caveats) to be high movement from the wait list, with as many as 300 acceptances being made to fill 184 seats. There are many factors that play into that movement that I could only speculate about, but that does mean that somewhere around 100 admission offers will be made after March. So, if you've interviewed but not heard back, now is not the time to worry.

Thank you for this!

Anyone from the 10/31 group accepted apart from those lucky few who got accepted as soon as they evaluated our group? Haven't heard anything since the interview.

Long history of decisions being given out on Tuesdays! Is tomorrow going to one of them?

And at this point my unwavering optimism has faded. No II and I am thinking there probably isn't much hope. I did email asking for an update and got "under review" which seems it can be taken for, "no" at this point. Pretty disappointed.

From what I've read of your previous posts, you were complete/under review as of 10/8, correct? If that's true, I woudn't lose all hope. I was complete/under review as of 9/10 and received an II last week.

Really! That's good to hear! Some of my grouchy-ness is because I am sick, but I am very happy you said that. You have made laying illness stricken on the couch today easier. You have excellent bed-side manner 🙂.

Has anyone been accepted OOS? What's the percentage of OOS that CU offers? I am debating on whether I should interview here or not. I really love the idea of living in Colorado but I want to take a second to truly compare CU to where I have already been accepted. Can someone tell me a little about what makes this school unique or what stands out to them the most?

I also have been on 13 interviews so far and really think it's time to start saving money because well ... pretty much have none now!

after the interview stage it's irrelevant if your are OOS I believe. As for CU the campus is amazing with lots of cool buildings ie. UC-Hospital, Children's, and the new VA being built all in close proximity. It's like it's own little city. But if you aren't sure about CU, I would take into account that the OOS tuition is like 60K and you are locked into that for all four years. So it's up to you, but that's my 2 cents. I know some people are desperate for a CU II so if you're not set I'd say let someone else have it

I thought it was over $80K? Or does that include both COA and COL?

Thank you! Yes yes, I am well aware people are waiting for a spot which is why I'm trying to make a decision now! And either way I'm going out of state and looking at 80k a year so I guess I'm wondering if they give out merit based scholarships much at all? Is there anything about their curriculum that stands out in comparison to other schools? I have been reading and it seems like a very integrated approach like Northwestern has.

in the Children's Hospital they have a scale Lego model of the hospital. Super cool!

80k is COA. COA = COL + tuition + books etc

And no they don't give out much if any merit aid. They put most of their money towards the facilities of the school and hospital.

What about Global Health?

Thanks. Is their global health program significant by any means? Is there a diverse population at all?

And I am looking on their website, I just am looking for what you guys thought more than anything.

What do you mean by diverse population? Aurora has a very diverse population with a high Mexican immigrant population additionally there is a lot of rural medicine in the mountains that can give you some cool opportunities. Their global health program appeared to be very good. They have established programs you can attend or you can choose to create your own as long as you can find a location that meets certain reasonable criteria.

Hey where are the pics of the half-built, never-ending debacle that is the new VA buildings?

Also.. Do any current students (or reapplicants), know if CU accepts updates in the event that you are put on the waitlist?

Haha I was going to take some but it just looked like a typical (massive) construction project. I just wish I could convey how HUGE and awesome the campus is

We have several different tracks that you can apply for after you matriculate, one of those is the global track. Here is a link to their page if you'd like to read up on it a little: (http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/c...tudinal/tracks/globaltrack/Pages/default.aspx). I know a few classmates that are in the global track and have plans to travel to a few different places this summer (South Africa, Peru, Haiti). One of our requirements is to do a "Mentored Scholarly Project" during our time in school. If you are in a track you can often use that work as your MSA project.

If you are interested in a full list of the tracks follow this link: http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/c...rogram/longitudinal/tracks/Pages/default.aspx

Good luck, and hopefully this helps with your decision.

Has anyone else applied for the rural track program? I just got an email saying they also interview for the track so I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this interview as well?

I was interested in the CU-UNITE track but wasn't really interviewed for that. That being said, my interviewer asked me some relevant(?) questions that really threw me off. "Have you ever faced discrimination?"

I don't think you interview for that track.

It honestly helps a ton. Thank you so much!

Anybody have any insight or advice regarding the interview? Any questions that you remember or that caught you off guard? I checked out the Colorado interview survey but it looks like it hasn't been updated in a couple years. Thanks in advance!

My two interviewers had a standard set of questions they asked, looked like they had which ones they were going to ask circled. Sort of your standard questions you would get at any job interview, a few ethical questions, some questions on your application.

My interviewers were super tough, I couldn't tell if they were trying to 'stress interview' me or if I was just bombing. Lol

I thought I read somewhere that you can get in-state tuition after a year. Does anyone know if that is true??

Look back a few pages in this thread. I had done a little digging, and it looks like Colorado law pretty much prevents getting in-state tuition after you start as an out-of-state student.

Has anyone gotten accepted after having not been accepted in a previous batch? My suspicion is that they are taking a portion that are "monthly acceptances" and pushing the rest back til march
