2014-2015 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm interviewing in Peoria in the near future. Do you have any advice/anything you wish you had known beforehand?

No advice beyond the usual be yourself and all that. It's two interviews, one with two doctors and another with an M4. The M4 one is really chill as you can expect, they mostly ask personality stuff. The interview with the doctors can vary, like I said I had one guy that seemed cold as ice and the other was pretty friendly.

Interviewing in January at the Chicago campus. Does anyone know the format for the interview? Also, PM me if you have an interview date before January and want to cancel, I'd love to interview sooner!

Does anyone know how many interviews the University of Illinois system holds and how many of those students they accept? I can't seem to find the stats online. Sources/links appreciated!

Is this a committee day? Like if we haven't had a status change yet but interviewed in October?

I got an email basically saying I hadn't been decided on yet and I was hoping to see a change today but no luck 🙁

+1

It is the third Thursday of the month, so theoretically the adcom is meeting/met today. If statuses are going to change, that will probably happen later this afternoon and/or tomorrow morning.

Just got the "Final decision + additional correspondence". Has this pretty much meant an acceptance for everyone?

Congrats, @tanner2! Me too! I think this has historically meant acceptance, and everyone who has received it so far this year seems to have been accepted as well!

Edit: Based on the UIC admissions process flowchart provided earlier in the thread, we might not be in the clear yet. Apparently we should be getting a criminal background check email within the next few days if we were truly accepted.

For those of you with final decision statuses, where did you interview?

final decision + additional correspondences! it isn't so much of a tab as it is a thing next to the confirm interview thing.

how long did it take people to get decisions in the mail? i live in NW suburbs...

Been an "Applicant in Process" for a while now... I believe since early September. How long have people been waiting to hear back?

does "final decision made on your application" pre-II mean rejection?

My status changed 10/24 to "final decision made" + additional correspondence tab, and I received the acceptance packet in the mail 11/1. I've already submitted my site preference and deposit and I got my site assignment (Chicago), but I have yet to receive a criminal background check (CBC) e-mail.

I still have decision pending and interviewed in late October...anyone still in that boat?
Me!! I interviewed mid October and I am still Decision Pending. Does it mean they haven't gotten to our applications yet or they have but didn't like it enough?

I'm in the same boat. According to last year this means in a few days we will get an email informing us that our application is good, just not good enough for an acceptance yet. So they will keep reviewing it every month. That being said, I also read in last year's post that they don't send out post-interview rejections until after January...so who knows what the deal is!

Yeah, definitely don't give up! I interviewed in September and got the "decision pending" status followed by the "your application has been reviewed for this month" email in October. Then, I got the "final decision" + "additional correspondence" status yesterday. They have lots of applications to review and for a variety of reasons, might need more time to make a final decision on you. The "decision pending" status is definitely not a sign that all hope is lost. I hope you hear good news soon!

Interviewed 10/3 - Final decision status yesterday afternoon, but no additional correspondence. I'm not sure what to make of it.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find a message on it. My status on the status check page just went to "A final decision was made on your application on 11-21-14. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

Does anyone know if this means I should be expecting a rejection? Thanks!

Complete on 8/26, II: 10/30, Interview scheduled: 1/26 in Chicago
Anyone have any advice for interviewing in Chicago? Seems like the decision post interview takes a pretty long time...?
ALSO! If anyone is cancelling a Chicago interview that is set for before 1/26, I will take it! Please message me and let me know 🙂

STILL decision pending, and I interviewed in Chicago 10/20. Anybody know what's up with this???

Looks like lots of us have interviews coming up! I'm not scheduled until February, so again, if anyone is looking to cancel their Chicago interview, please send me a message. I live nearby and would be more than happy to take your spot!

I am also in the same situation. Does anyone know if this is a bad omen? 🙁

This was posted back on page 3. It was taken from last year's thread.

------

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C. [perhaps this should read "Applicant in Progress"?]

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.

M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.

N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.

S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. (Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.)

FINISH

Hmmm... yet another month of decision pending (10/14 interview)... beginning to lose hope...

Besides mailing in the check and preference card, nobody has received any other additional information yet regarding the hep form and transcripts (as shown on status page)?

So, I just got Final Decision made waiting for correspond through mail before interview. That means - Rejection? Or do I get a rejection in email.

Stop humble bragging. If you read before hand you'll know that your misty likely accepted. The way you worded your question indicates that you already know the answer

Huh? He/she said "BEFORE interview." Implies rejection.

Congrats! I knew you would get in 🙂
Thanks So much! Maybe we can be classmates 😉

BTW can anyone comment on how your site assignment comes? Like after you send in the preference card, do they just email you your site assignment?
