2014-2015 University of Louisville Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got this email yesterday morning:

"The Student Admissions Committee has reviewed your application for admission and you have been selected for the wait list for the entering class of 2015. You must notify us of your acceptance or refusal of wait list status through return email within 7 days from receipt of this notification. If you decline the wait list, then please send us an email withdrawing from consideration at the University of Louisville.
Candidates who are selected for and accept wait list status will be ranked during the month of April and informed of their rank by Friday, April 24. Candidates will be able to check online at the secondary application website for their standing; the rank is categorized as top third, middle third or bottom third of the listing. Kentucky residents and out of state candidates are placed on separate wait list.
It is impossible to predict the number of positions that will become available. We will admit from the wait list through the last week in July."

Previous I called University of Louisville and asked if they accepted a letter of intent/update email. The admissions committee said no. For a response to this email do you think it would be appropriate to write a short letter of intent or do they simply want a yes I would like to be considered for the wait list?

Thanks SDNer's!
No, I don't think writing a response would get any additional consideration. It just goes to the secretary and she would mark yes or no in your file.

I agree. Later in the cycle if you hold an acceptance elsewhere and feel so inclined, I don't think there would be anything wrong with sending a letter of intent to let them know you would accept your seat immediately upon offer of admission. I feel like this would come around the time you learn of your waitlist rank.

I would just say that you accept the waitlist position.
I doubt they will care about extra information, but if you want to count on the very small chance they would take note of what you write go for it.
I cannot believe it could be a negative and someone might actually record what you write.

I got this in return for a fairly lengthy E-mail thanking them for my acceptance.
"We are pleased you accept. Your return email will suffice for acceptance notification." + post-acceptance details. Very clearly generic.
This is the basis for my assumption that they do not really care what you write.

Just wanted to offer some insight to anyone still on hold and wondering what the deal is:

Like @singergirl18 said, they might still hand out a few acceptances (congrats on yours!) but at this point we are likely looking at wait list. They do not go in order of interview dates when they decide who to discuss at meetings. It is all based on a score that we get from our interviews, MCAT, GPA, and letters of rec. So those with the highest scores will be brought up for discussion at the meetings. This is why someone who interviewed back in November might still be getting the "no decision" email, and someone who just interviewed in late January has already been wait listed or accepted. The November interviewee might have done just fine but other people may keep interviewing who are getting better scores. Hopefully that makes sense.

As for the wait lists…the class size is 155, and their ideal situation would be to have 120 IS and 35 OOS (from what I remember Ms. Osborne saying). So they have an IS wait list and an OOS wait list. The OOS wait list tends to have much more movement because people tend to go to their state school if possible where tuition is lower and maybe their family lives there. The IS list I believe still has a decent amount of movement though.

Also, the committee meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, and they send out the decision email the Wednesday after the meeting (in case anyone wasn't sure).

Anyways, hope that helps clear some things up in case anyone was confused about how they do things or why they are still getting "hold" emails. Don't lose hope though!! There is still a great chance to be placed on the wait list or even accepted.

Accepted! Sorry, I've been lurking here for a while. OOS, interviewed 1/28 with Singergirl18 (though in the afternoon). This is my first (and only so far) acceptance and am so excited!

I interviewed in the afternoon with you. Now I am curiously wondering who you are!
Did you interview in the morning on 1/28? If so I was with you! Congrats!!!

Sounds like they just want a yes. It looks like you are selected for the waitlist which is good because it's not consideration for the waitlist. But if you have questions, call Mrs. Osborne.

Has anyone been rejected from Louisville post-interview? Or is everyone either accepted or put on the waitlist?

So I got the email that asked if I would like to be considered for the wait list and that the rank will be released by April 24th. On the secondary application website under timeline it says "Deadline to withdraw Fall 2015 acceptance" is April 30th. Does this mean that we will see waitlist movement as early as May 1st?

From what I understand, yes. We could see movement right then.

The pre-orientation day yesterday was great! Really liked getting a second look!

Another no decision email today. Interviewed 2/4

No decision again for me. Interviewed 1/28.

No decision, as expected.
They said they're changing their March schedule and they're meeting next week right?

I thought I recalled something about a meeting the first week of March.

No decision for me. Interviewed 2/4. Does this no decision mean they haven't gotten a chance to look at my application or they just haven't found a decision?

At this point/late in the game, it's pretty unreasonable to expect an outright acceptance right? I'm really hoping I just can land a spot in the top 1/3 of the waitlist, as it seems that third in the waitlist looks good.

Can anyone who went to pre-orientation give us a rundown of how the day went? I'd really like to know what, if anything, was said about financial aid packages.

It seems like if it was going to be an acceptance we would have gotten it by now, as people who interviewed 1/28 have, so I doubt we'll be getting an outright acceptance though I could be severy mistaken. The no decision email simply means no decision. Most likely they're going through the pile and didn't get to ours.

This is just speculation but..I'm thinking they haven't looked at your application. I don't know if they even met this week because of something someone else mentioned and I thought I remembered.

Also, more speculation.. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect an acceptance. I know there won't be many more, but you never know how many could have declined an acceptance since the last round of reviews or how many spots are left. So, if you feel like you killed it or have a good shot you should at least feel there is a chance. I know I do! Hoping for top third waitlist isn't a bad idea either though. I'm just trying to remain optimistic! Good luck.

I won't hope for an acceptance, but I will be pleasantly surprised if I get one.

If you're on the waitlist, is there no chance of getting an acceptance before April 24th? Seems so far away.

They won't rank the waitlists until after their final meeting the last week of March. I wouldn't expect much waitlist movement before April 30th when people have to get down to 1 school.

Selected for waitlist today. Interviewed 2/4.

There was a large power point about it

Interviewed late August, was in consideration for waitlist pool since end of October and today placed on waitlist today.

For those of you who have also been wait listed, did you receive a reply email to your acceptance or rejection of your spot on the wait list? I emailed back this morning and wasn't sure if they respond quickly. Don't want to lose my spot!

I replied to accept my waitlist offer but didn't get any reply either
