2014-2015 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I really want to, but it overlaps with another school. Does anyone know if it's a bad idea to only go to one day?

Their Second Look Weekend overlaps with those of the two other schools where I am holding acceptances, and a third that I'm waiting to hear back from. I don't know what I'm going to do. Michigan's social media people have been hyping up their Second Look so much that I am tempted to to here, but I want to give all of the schools a fair chance.

Sigh. I must acknowedge, though, that having to choose between multiple schools is a nice problem to have.

Official pre-II rejection email today from my undergraduate alma mater and dream school. Goodbye Michigan, goodbye Ann Arbor... goodbye annual donation. (or not... especially to the athletic department, who am I kidding, GO BLUE). Being offered the chance to attend Michigan for medical school would have been an honor and a privilege. A sincere congratulations to the people who will be attending in the fall.

Is there any expected waitlist movement this year or is it basically a rejection?

Not sure why the portal hasn't updated to a final rejection yet, but since the last interviews are tomorrow, I suppose this has to be the end of the road...

Has anyone else still not heard anything?
Pre-interview or post-interview?

If you mean pre-interview, unfortunately, the interview season is over per @UMichMedAdmiss' last few tweets.
It's been a fun interview season:16 dates, 543 interviewees, and 450+ ambassadors/committee members! Thanks to all involved. #gobluemed

Finally given the formal boot pre-II. OOS, LizzyM=73. Good luck to all you already-lucky people who have been or will be accepted! 🙂
@AspiringERMD , I'm among the less fortunate as well, and know that that hob-nail boot is ouchy! Glad to see that you have been accepted elsewhere, and hope that you will be happy and successful in not-Michigan (where I will also be studying!) 😵

so has everyone who has interviewed been given an initial decision? The trackers says there are very few admissions offers to give (less than 10). Was anyone waitlisted/rejected post-interview?

The tracker before this one said that they were going to accept 250 OOS and 100 IS, while the most recently updated one has 255 OOS and 115 IS. Hopefully they'd consider raising the admitted student quotas one more time. As for the WL/rejection, I remember them saying at the interview day that post-interview rejections were rare. I assume the remaining applicants are all wait-listed.

Has anyone with a "deferred until March" status received a decision - as in WL or acceptance - yet? I know it's still early but they're done interviewing now.

i interviewed Jan 16th and was deferred to march as of Feb 4th. anyone know what the statistics are for being pulled from the deferred list?

I recently withdrew from here but they rejected me post-withdrawal anyways... Good luck to everyone!

I'm sorry but that's just hilarious

I am deferred until march as well. No decision. Using my uncanny pre-med awareness and logic, I'm predicting that we will receive a decision in march.

Well, all next week I will be chilling in Mexico with no internet, so maybe (hopefully) when I get back I will arrive to good news!! Hopefully the suspense doesn't kill me

Hey for current students-- do you think it's useful to go to second look day if you're already planning on matriculating at UMich? Esp. if you're already acquainted with Ann Arbor & the undergrad campus at least? Or has second look day in the past not really been that useful?

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. I am from far away so I am not as familiar with University of Michigan, but I am almost 100% sure this is the place for me. I am waiting a bit to see how scholarships go. Anyone have any input?

Not sure about useful but it is fun and you get free stuff. Good place to meet potential roommates and future classmates etc.

If you're going to matriculate either way and it's really expensive for you to get to AA then it's not a huge deal to miss it. It's more of a socializing event for incoming students and a chance to recruit people on the fence, or at least that was my experience.

Interview. Good luck to those of you with the deferred status!

That. Is. The. Coolest. Thing. Ever! If I gave you a high five for every thousand dollars that's worth, it'd be a lot of high fives!
Indeed it's a lot of money (if all in dollar bills, it's way over 500 lbs). However, money aside the coolest part about the Dean's scholarship is the tuition for a fifth year at any master program. And I'm also excited for the other benefits that come with it: mingling with the deans, faculties and leadership skill training.

ACCEPTED! Got the "status update" email telling me to check the portal, which is usually never a good sign...but turned out to be a REALLY good surprise!

Interviewed 1/16, OOS, LizzyM 77

CONGRATS! how were your stats if you don't mind me asking....i'm OOS as well :\

The email I got in December said it would be by the 15th.
Good luck! I think the spell casted on you by your host's cat must have expired by now.
