2014-2015 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
lol the kicker is she barely even prepared for it. I think she had a couple different books and studied a couple weeks out. -___-
I did Kaplan, had as many books as I could get my hands on and studied for the better part of 6 months and she still smoked me.

Oh and she bombed two sections.
Ugh, You still have a 40---> since your LizzyM is 80. You or your sister have some valuable reproductive materials.

I'm loving Michigan's outreach. It's making the wait just a little easier.

Have you watched these videos?

Seriously. They're making their way to my top choice pretty quickly because of how invested they are to their students.
What I've been saying all along. I still can't believe that I am actually gonna do the 24hrs in Blue after having thought/talked/dreamed so much about it ever since I went to an info session held by the former director at my school.

Congratulations to everyone who has been invited to interview here at the U of M!

I hope you love the school and Ann Arbor as much as I did when I first visited here. I still love it, even with the hellish winter we had last year.

Best of luck to everyone on their interview, and to those still waiting to hear whether or not they will get one. 🙂

What is the dress code for the dinner and events the night before the actual interview?

My year, at least, the dress code was very casual. Definitely don't show up in suit and tie. If you're male, wear a polo and some jeans or nice shorts. If you're a lady, wear something that's nice but not too dressed up. Hope that's helpful

Been complete for 4 weeks and not a peep, still under review. Not just here, but same deal with every other school (been complete since end of July). Staying patient though, hoping for some news soon!

+2

If I were to stay an additional night before or after the interview, would you guys recommend to do that in Ann Arbor or Detroit? I don't have any particular goal, but I'd prefer to have as much exposure to new culture and new places as possible. It doesn't have to relate to anything medical.
EDIT: I plan to fly in on Wed for Friday's interview and leave on Saturday. So by additional nights, I mean the night of Wed and Friday. I definitely gonna be in Ann Arbor for Thu night.

Ann Arbor! It's an awesome place. Great nightlife and really good food. I might be slightly biased though 😉

Definitely Ann Arbor the night before. Don't make yourself travel in from Detroit. If you're doing another night after, though, Detroit has a lot to offer.

heart jumped when I saw e-mail from Dr. Gay earlier today. It was only for their twitter chat 🙁

what was mcat average at before?

I read that last year's matriculated class had an average MCAT of around 34.5. Don't feel too intimidated by the high interviewed or accepted MCAT average.

How long does the status stay at "Under Review"?
Mostly ~10days, based on what was reported here and on MDapp.com. But there are certainly outliers. A few peeps with great stats and great EC (judging from the II they've already received, their app should be high quality) have been in that stats for a months. Good luck!

Yes, remember the average comes down a bit over the interview season as the adcoms get through all the superstars, and start looking at us mere instate mortals with only a 33 MCAT . Week 2 of med school, and it is intense, but doable - - so to all the less than 35 Mcatters, take heart!! Best wishes, and GO BLUE!

I've been at that status since I submitted on July 2nd (OOS, LizzyM 75)

I think we may be stuck there for a bit, this is what their app says:

I see. I should better be patient then~ I submitted my secondaries a little bit late. 🙁

Anyone else see the 42 in-state MCAT? And no interview invite for them because the high is still 41. Brutal.....
To quote from a speech given by an adcom member of UMich:
"10% of the 3.9+/40+ applicants don't go anywhere. I'm happy to see this because that means we, the adcom, are doing our job."

I've been "Under Review" since 7/2 🙁. And why hasn't anyone commented about the 45 MCAT OOS person yet O_O

I'm with you here, I submitted my secondary on 6/29 and have been Under Review since 7/2 as well :depressed: Patience is our friend in these slow times
Oh, there's actually been comments about that fellow on this forum... well speculation really. And it became a discussion of the 45'ers over the years in history :corny:

Sdn has really skewed my perception of an "average" MCAT score. It's awesome because I find so many bright minds here and a source of inspiration, but sometimes I feel insecure with a 36 😛

Just an honest feeling here, not meant to change the culture here or offend anyone... 😳 Like I said, it's inspiring because it allows one to dwell outside of the culture in less competitive undergrads (where standards may be lower) and reach for bigger and brighter stars 🙂

Peace.

For those of you with an II, make sure you do the MIC! It has a deadline. I just discovered this within the portal... I thought the "MIC" was something they would send an email about... But apparently its just a link that shows up in your portal.

I can't see the MIC link yet. Probably because my interview date is beyond 30days from now...

II this afternoon!!! 🙂 OOS nontrad, LizzyM 75-76, complete 8/19.

On the portal, they only offered me one option for an interview day. While I can make it if I hustle, I wouldn't be able to make it to Ann Arbor until midnight the night before (and would miss the student dinner). Do you think I should try to reschedule or just suck it up and endure the inconvenient travel schedule? Also, I know they say the student dinner is optional, but will it really not make a difference if I can't make it?

I'd suggest to get another day. Michigan is super thoughtful of their applicants, I have no doubt that they'd give you more options just so that you can fully involve yourself in all the activities and to have opportunity to relax a bit the night before.

They also note that they have had "significantly more" verified applications than in previous years:

I've been in the "File Complete--Under Review" crowd since 7/28.
I was hoping it was just that everybody is being early. Guess we are indeed looking at a much more competitive year. I wonder if it has to do with people are applying more broadly, or just more people are trying...
Good luck with getting out of the under review status!

Been under review as well for a while now! LizzyM ~74.5. I was complete on 06/29. Really hoping for some good news.

Oh, and congrats on your II from Pitt! I interviewed there today and it was AMAZING!!! I loved it
