The interview photo profile is pretty cool. Along with the photos and names of all the people interviewing on the same day, the following things were also listed: what's the one thing that they are good at and about which others don't know, where they consider to be home town, undergrad institution and year. Thank you UMich! Can't wait. Good to know so many people are good at cooking! I can roast a good duck.Let's all cook together in the future and share moderate amount of alcoholic beverage.

Me too me too! Surprised by how big the interviewee group is... although you can easily figure out which one I am, since I'm the only one with a super nerdy "about me" fact. Oops. I can cook too, I swear!

I didn't check... I've applied to so many schools that I figure looking at my pages will just make me nervous. Plus, it's so random where the interviews come from! I'd also be happy to answer any questions about Ann Arbor or Michigan, although my interview is late october, I'm an Ann Arbor native and am super familiar with the hospital and the medical school.
 
Interviewed yesterday, and want to just add one more voice of concurrence on how amazing the interview day and school were. I went in actually NOT wanting to like Michigan (the thought of not living on a coast never really crossed my mind before.) What a pleasant surprise. Excited for 10/15!

School A (while a bit exaggerated) is actually a fairly common practice from what I remember while applying -- the more update letters, interest letters, and letters of intent you send, the better you stand in late May. However, Michigan's approach is like School B, hence the excellent post-interview acceptance rate compared with other places, since our admissions team is not as concerned with keeping our overall acceptance rate as low as possible (not that there's anything wrong with doing so). Thus, Michigan has not needed to use the waitlist in years. Your trip to Ann Arbor (IS or OOS) is a great investment, since you have a great chance of gaining an offer a few weeks later.

FWIW, of the 364 accepted last cycle, 198 committed to coming on May 15 (54%). By matriculation, the M1 class enrolled 177. A good number deferred until Aug 2015, and some took WL offers elsewhere. Technically still overfilled, but they added extra mailboxes 😛

Yep. They have not reported very many more applications received in the last two weeks (219 out of state), but they have continued to give out a decent number of interview invitations (37 out of state). Maybe they are going back and inviting people they passed over at least once. (I suspect this happened to me not that long ago--complete 7/28, interview invite 9/4.)
 
I have been under review since 7/21. Not looking good for me.
 
I think they said they were having the committee meeting tomorrow afternoon to decide on people that interviewed on 9/12. Super nerve wracking! This is definitely my top choice of all the places I interviewed. Please love me back Michigan!

Thanks! Crazy right? maybe they only look at the primary when determining interviews? Because I find it hard to believe there was a one day turnaround, especially when I'm this late in the cycle and they already have a ton of others to go through. Also this is what it says on the on the portal - "All supplemental materials (secondary application, fee, etc.) must be received two weeks prior to your interview" So maybe the secondary isn't taken into account?

Best of luck footballUSA! It's nerve cracking to think of the approaching oct 15th. The acceptance panicking is going to start soon.

I interviewed on 9/12, too, and I was thinking the same thing when I woke up this morning. Best of luck, let's hope the review today goes our way!
 
Is UMMS releasing interviews exclusively on Mondays this cycle? Just curious, since it seems to be that most people post about getting them on Mondays.

I'm not sure whether to blame myself for over planning or the other way around: bought and tailor fitted the suit 2 months ago. But I forgot to try it out periodically, two days ago I realize that somebody has been spoiling herself a bit too much with cookies and chips in the past month. Now I can't comfortably sit in the suits anymore!!! So here I am, trying to run off a couple pounds last minute and giving myself a running tour of downtown Ann Arbor.

Just ran to the medical school, wanted to make sure I know where the admission office was. The moment I entered the MS building, there it was. All the staff were visible through the glass wall--they seem to be having a large and serious meeting with tons of paper works in their hands and on the table. I'd assume someone's fate was being determined inside. Good luck to whoever they were.

I retreated immediately though to avoid being seen in my flashy and silly running garment.

Ann Arbor really is a beautiful small town. Very strong school pride: students get to ride all bus free. The medical center looks like a piece of art from the outside. And business seem to be proceeding efficiently inside. The last time I was at a real spread-out college campus (mine was in the center city enough said), it was in USC. Here in UMich it's a bit different with students looking a bit more serious than the hyper cheerful USC main campus. Glad to see so many people skateboarding and biking.

Oh hey it's a really pretty day outside.

You are running, being productive, touring the city, etc. Meanwhile, I am buried in the library being completely unproductive (thanks SDN), not doing any of my homework, and taking periodic catnaps. One of us is doing things right. The other one of us is me and I'm not happy about it.

Interesting.

According to U.S. News, last year, University of Michigan received 5,441 applications in total.
According to the most recent M.D. tracker, 5,453 applications have been received so far into the cycle.

This is going to be the most competitive year yet.

AH, yes. Upon careful examination, it's located in UH South. I'd still be fine probably since my host is taking me to the breakfast, but still, thanks for pointing that out.

Think there is any hope at all for this status?

"Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Your file remains "open" and eligible for additional reviews. Final decisions for all candidates will be made the first week in February. Thank you for your patience."

Seems as if there are so many applicants they would never go back and look over someone they passed over the first time. Is okay to be honest....just want to know realistically if anyone has ever gotten in with this. Note I got this like a couple days after applying.

Is this a "hold" status? I'm curious what the difference between this and the "Under Review" status is, because I guarantee they've reviewed my app (I was complete 7/2) but I haven't heard a peep.

The under review status sounds better than mine lol. Mine means their first impression was bad.....the review status just means no action has been taken.
 
Hey guys who've already interviewed! So I saw that there's a dinner the night before the interview…just curious, but does Michigan pay for that dinner 😀DDDD (please say yes!!!!) I've been wondering that ever since I opened up the 24 hours in blue link!

Yes, I believe it is a hold status. Michigan does half-silent rejections and most people I know in the last few years that had "Under Review" for a long time after submitting were ultimately rejected in February or March.

Obviously you didn't meet me, as I'm the most chill person around,but I don't hang on med campus, I was probably biking, but if it was Friday, I was kayaking. Love being able to take exams anytime I want on the weekends. Ann Arbor in the fall is glorious, and it makes up for Jan-Feb, which are less so.

Wow, it would be great if we really did have a 1/2 year of snow, sadly we rarely get snow in December, last year was an exception. Usually Jan - March are somewhat snowy. Mostly cold from Nov - March, gray and dreary. But, relatively cheap to live here, and Detroit metro airport is only 1/2 hour away, with flights to all the wonderful places to travel in the winter. In other parts of the country, folks travel for summer vacation. I travel in the winter, as summer and fall in Ann Arbor are pretty awesome. Just make plans for the winter holidays and breaks to go somewhere else, and the winter will go by more quickly.
