If they just didn't tweet that we would've all been ok haha. Congrats to everyone. Maybe see you next year?
According to the letter, no.So if accepted, is there something we have to do to accept the acceptance or not?
Hey guys,
Received a "Decision Deferred to December" status. I have not ever really heard of this as an option when decisions come out. Does anyone know the odds or an anecdote of someone who has gone through this at Michigan? Ya I am a little bummed since I really liked this school. Wish I had got the acceptance :/
So if accepted, is there something we have to do to accept the acceptance or not?
Anyone know what the deal is with the deferral?
And 5 schools account for 45 percent of the acceptances (Mich, Harv, Stanford, Yale, and Berkeley)Congrats y'all!
They posted this on their FB site this morning. Y'all have some crazy stats....MCAT average of 37!??!?!?!! lol there goes my shot at an II. https://www.facebook.com/UniversityofMichiganMedicalSchool?fref=photo
Amazing
So I counted, there are 26 acceptances (counted based on memory, there could be more, but I doubt it) given out for the 9/26 date on which day 32 interviewed. That comes down to a 81.25% acceptance rate!!! Holy Moly! I actually felt that everyone on my day was pretty darn impressive, candid and sharp, I was wondering how UMich was going to differentiate and triage, it must have been hard.
Hi Jennifer!PARTY. No, nothing to do, no money down. You have until May to withdraw. GO BLUE!!
Funny stories about my interviews and acceptance last year. I got emailed to interview on Dec 2 for January. I was planning a 5 week hiking trip in S. America, so called the admission office, and they scheduled me for an Alternate date on Dec 18. I'm thinking, cool, right in the middle of my final semester finals. Then on Wed, Dec 4, they said they had a cancellation for that Friday, Dec 6, could I do that. Yikes 2 day notice (but I'm an a U of M undergrad, no problem). Except the girl that canceled was named Jennifer, and I'm a Dude, so they kept calling for Jennifer (my last name). Was awkward to keep explaining I was a last minute substitute for another candidate, but my fellow candidates got a good laugh about it.
So, I'm was out of the country in January on the 15th when the announcements are due for my interview date, so my Mom was monitoring my email for me. She noticed an email from the U of M Director a day before the Ad Com announcement date that there was an "issue with my application, could I stop my his office". My Mom (who works at U of M too) emailed the director, explained I was out of the country, and could she "assist" with the issue. She then calls the Director, and asks does the issue have to do with an envelope? (She knows the U of M process, and that for U of M undergrads, they lure you to their office to hand you the acceptance letter envelope personally). The Director said yes, keep it under your hat. So, my Mom knew I got accepted a day before it was announced. She texted me the next day, which luckily I had reception for a few hours when I was able to charge my phone. She got to look at the video first, which I didn't see for a few days.
That is one way to beat the stress of waiting, just get out of the country!!
Congrats y'all!

I was going to post similar sentiment. I got very personal and encouraging emails from both my student and faculty interviewers. Maybe they wrote to me because they receive instruction from the admin or maybe because I wrote to them afterwards, but the sincerity in the email was apparent and the honor of being given such attention was cherished.Just got an email from the alumnus/doctor who interviewed me. Whether or not the school asked him to reach out and congratulate me with a thoughtful letter, it's a testament to how strong the pride and network of alumni is at Michigan. Such a personal feel 🙂. Falling more in love every second.

From what I can tell, 9/15 had 33/36 accepted.
No worries, the mere mortal applicants come later in the cycle, and the averages will come down. Remember, they accept about 270 OOS candidates, as those candidate have multiple top 10 acceptances, so to get 85 to accept, they have to admit lots of OOS folks. However, my class has 177, and I think they shoot for 170, so we are overenrolled for the 2nd year. Not sure if they are changing anything this year to avoid an over enrollment for a third year.
Look at my stats for IS, I got in, but I did have a lot of service work, and a unique background. Cheers, keep the hope alive and GO BLUE!
did anyone have their status change to screening complete?
Nope, still have the same "File Complete - Under Review" since early July.did anyone have their status change to screening complete?
What do you think our chances are? I am losing hope day by day for my top choice :/Mine has been file complete since July....
UM is one of my dream/reaches. I am in state, with a 34 mcat, 3.86 gpa, 200+ hours of hospital volunteering, lots of shadowing, and lots of research with publications, and i have volunteered abroad etc. I am growing worried because I just want an interview. do you guys here on SDN think I can get an interview. please be honest.

Status changed to "Application Screening Completed". I was under review since early July.
Hey, me too.Status changed to "Application Screening Completed". I was under review since early July.
Hey, me too.
Application Screening Completed
Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Your file remains "open" and eligible for additional reviews. Final decisions for all candidates will be made the first week in February. Thank you for your patience.
I guess this is a hold that is more or less a rejection.
+1"Application Screening Completed" for me too 🙁 Bummer, would have loved to get an interview here. Still a chance I suppose, but it's looking ever more slim.
+doom status
My dreams of weekly Savas brunches are slowly fading away.... But good luck to those spared!!
