2014-2015 University of Nebraska Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just received a letter address to First Year Medical Students about doing the summer participation program. I haven't received an acceptance letter yet, and I'm OOS. So I guess this means I'm accepted!?! It says congratulations on your acceptance to this years class. Anyone else receive the mail out of order?

Out of curiosity, when did you have your interview?

I've been asked to post the following for a friend.

Male ORM, accepted yesterday, IS, LizzyM 65, Interviewed 10/10, and received the research opportunities first, extensive volunteering and shadowing hours.

Could someone please tell me what the research opportunities thing is?
I haven't received this so I am assuming a rejection is coming sooner or later.

Not everyone seems to have gotten the research letter and not everyone got it before their acceptance packet. Don't assume a rejection based on that. Definitely seems like they aren't afraid of rejecting people, you would have it if you were.

I agree with @baxt1412 here, @ShabbaRanks ...not everyone has gotten this summer student research program pamphlet. Don't assume you're rejected based on that! It's so early for Nebraska. They are definitely not afraid to reject people as we have already seen many rejections on this thread, thus you are still in the game!

Was the research mail in a small or big envelope?... I wanna know if there's still hope if I see a small envelope!

@Omppu27 apparently a small envelope. My friend initially thought it was a rejection given the size but felt it was too bulky. He called this morning and turns out the acceptance letter just hadn't come yet. What a roller coaster though.

If accepted, do you get a background check email from AMCAS/aamc before any sort of letter were to arrive from UNMC? I am not confident in getting accepted but just out of curiosity

Similar to what I went through a few pages back with receiving volunteer info and requests for donations, etc

I'll donate as much as possible if you let me in UNMC!!!!!!

There is no way to know who initiated the background check. All schools ask for one from their students. You get the email about the background check but it never says anything about any schools.

Edit: You have received this email because you have been waitlisted or conditionally accepted by one or more of the medical schools participating in the AAMC-facilitated program for performing criminal background checks on conditionally accepted applicants and waiting list applicants. Please note that the requesting medical school will be notified if consent is not provided, and that failure to provide consent may result in failing to meet the requesting medical school's admissions requirements

To provide consent, please follow the instructions below:

Noted. Thank you for the clarification.

A lot of us might be hearing back in the next few weeks. I just want to say, don't lose hope!! Even if you are rejected just remember that regardless of which school you go to, what matters is what you make of your medical education and your career... I know we are all capable of doing great things as future physicians🙂

still waiting for a letter.

I feel like I'm having a mini anxiety attack every time I check the mail. bleeee make haste admissions!

Does anyone remember when they said they review applications until? I thought they said until March then if you haven't heard back then it's a Waitlist decision

They told my group decisions are made "randomly" between December and march. Not sure what day in march.

Received the rejection letter yesterday. Waaaaaah. Interviewed October 24th, OOS. Good luck to the rest uh ya!

sad to hear. mind posting your stats and state residence?

Rejected for the second year in a row. 🙁 I don't know what exactly they are looking for. So frustrating.

I am sorry... We were talking from early on this cycle and k was hoping you would be getting in. Did you talk with jasmine after last cycle?

You mean Gigi? Man I am so confident that I will be receiving this small envelope based on some of the rejections here.

You never know! But I'm certainly hoping for the best while expecting the worst.

I talked to Gigi after last cycle and she said that my numbers were good but that I needed more clinical volunteering so I added 220 hours plus another 60 of shadowing. Thought my interview went well both years. I give up on UNMC. Hope Creighton feels differently about me. Good luck to all still in the running!

Sorry to hear man. Hope Creighton works out. Any luck elsewhere? I assume you are in IS since you interviewed at both UNMC and Creighton.

Thanks - I hope so too. No luck elsewhere, so Creighton is my last hope. I felt like I fit in there when I interviewed, but this process has seriously taken a toll on my confidence, so who knows. Yes, I'm IS.

To all those still waiting to hear: did you write a LOI? Are these necessary or does anyone know if UNMC even cares for these?

Not sure. I feel like it really shouldn't be necessary at all, especially not for in state but idk

I could be wrong, but I remember at the end of the day that Gigi said updates were cool, but don't bother sending anything just saying that UNMC is your #1, please accept me, etc.

Yes! Accepted with a letter dated January 15, but only the day after receiving the small envelope from the research department. Heart nearly fell into my feet when I opened the mailbox, then I'm left scratching my noggin' when I open it and see the congrats. Ha, oh well...

Thanks, feels great after being one of those non-trads who took the long road here! Best of luck in getting good news soon...it appears you already have options though, which is a nice spot to be.

Anyone interested in getting a FB group going for the UNMC COM Class of 2019?? I can do it, just not the most tech savy FB person (I've never made a group). Nevertheless, I am willing if no one volunteers 🙂 Congrats to all who have heard about their acceptance!

I would LOVE to be able to volunteer to do that.

I think that's an awesome idea! I'm not 100% sure how to make a group either.
