2014-2015 University of Rochester Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Very focused student fit? Do you have any idea what ECs they favor and which they don't?

I have years of full time employment working with people with intellectual/developmental disability (direct care, advocacy, support coordination, etc.). I think Rochester is interested in people who demonstrate that they are committed to a holistic, person-centered approach to caring for people and an understanding of how socioeconomic and cultural factors intersect with health and healthcare. I have zero research experience and no one at Rochester batted an eye. I got a very early interview and was accepted in October (my GPA and MCAT are very similar to yours).

I think you're right. This is why my boss chose UR for residency actually.

3.64 & 34; waiting since 9/3.
i am not very sure what they are looking for, but based on their rejection letter and mission statement, they are looking for students who are interested in a holistic patient care

Not sure if it helped or not, but I sent an update letter about 2 weeks before I got my II (had been complete since 7/1 without any word).
i sent an update letter exactly a month ago..no good for me

Rejected just now. Complete end of August. LM >75

Has anyone with a November interview heard a decision lately?

Not applying just curious.

Rejected today, complete late September I believe. Good luck to those still in the running!

... Hmm nothing here. what does this mean!!!

Me too! I want to know!! @womanofscience did you send in an update? Also, congrats!!
+3 sorry all that got turned down today. I sent an update about a month ago or so, maybe I got put back for review somewhere? I was complete mid-Julyish

+1
sent an update a month ago as well..no news..submitted in July

Complete Early August! Hoping the Alma Mater can show me some Lovin'
UR is also my alma mater! It's pretty much the primary reason I applied, but then I also found out that they focus on holistic care, which is right up my alley.
Haha UR is my alma mater as well. Looks like we got a lot of them on the thread this cycle.

Isn't that up everyone's alley? 🙄

eh some care more than others. the more research minded applicants may not prioritize this as much in fit with a school
And my alma mater as well. I thought they have a lot to offer her research candidate, though certainly the holistic 'biopsychosocial' is there calling card. I was very impressed at my interview.

yeah I didn't say UR isn't good for research, this was in response to the post asking, wasn't the biopsychosocial model was big draw for all med school applicants? not necessarily, some may value it more than others

Alright y'all I'm out of this game, rejected today. It was fun! LizzyM<70, OOS, complete mid-July.

pre-II rejection, not too disappointed b/c I like the school in concept but location isn't great for me. LM ~65, IS

this has got to be one of the more poorly worded rejection letters I've received lol, they could learn something from BU*
(*edited: still always get BC & BU mixed up sorry)

Bitter lol

I don't understand you Rochester!! Complete 7/1 and nothing - why are you dragging this out?!?

Bitter lol
I've seen plenty of bitter SDN posts post-rejection but don't see how this is? I have been legitimately upset about other rejections and I have said so, in those threads, but I truly am not so disappointed about this one - not being bitter lol. initially applied here cus - again, I like the school in concept - but since I have other acceptance/options, the location becomes less appealing #shrug

Yeah I see what you mean by poorly worded. Like how they go on and on about some of the things their accepted student do.. I'm reading it thinking, I did almost all of those things lol.

Rejected here this week 🙁 I actually thought their rejection letter was pretty nice though compared to others

Still hanging in limbo, complete 7/15 and no word yet 🙁

Wait listed w/LizzyM >77 but I can shrug this one off. Definitely think they look for a personality type that fits Rochester which I don't have. Good luck to everyone!

Also Wait listed this morning, LizzyM ~71. I have mixed feelings about it, I'm glad that I am not rejected but it sucks not to be accepted :meh:

Does anybody know what kind of movement is there in Rochester's waiting list and how many people are in the list? I just want to know if I should keep hoping

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about rejections, congratulations to those accepted (specially today, those acceptances are coming ) and good luck to those of us that are still playing this waiting game :xf::xf::xf:

Accepted. Sorry about any rejections. Hopefully the rest of the cycle turns out fine.
