Has anybody in the waitlist heard anything at all?

Withdrew from Rochester. It was a tough decision, since I loved the school and faculty and had a great visit. Best of luck to everyone!

Nooooope. I'm probably going to call admissions next week to see if I can get a feel for where I stand.

Waiting isn't fun.
I will really appreciate if you let us know what they tell you regarding waitlist movement and if you are able to get a good feeling of where you are in that waitlist 🙂 Maybe I will give them a call myself.
And no, waiting isn't fun.

Surely!

I mean it seems to me that there are probably only a few potential reasons that they made that decision:
1. They simply couldn't decide between waitlisted applicants at this point to commit to a few by placing them on this list
2. They already admitted too many students and therefore are unsure if there will be any movement on their waitlist so they didn't want to give people potentially false hope
3. They were just lazy (doubt this one)

I vaguely remember the admissions dean saying almost half the class was filled from the waitlist. I don't know if he meant that was what happened in the past or that it was what he expected this year. Anyone remember anything like this?

This sounds familiar to me as well.

So, I called the admissions office and asked about wait list movement. The administrator I talked to said, "there has been no wait list movement yet." We should take this as a positive sign because it means we haven't missed the boat for anything! During my visit, Dr. Hansen emphasized that URSOM is conservative in their number of first round acceptance offers. So, I've interpreted "no wait list movement yet" to mean that they are still in the process of reviewing all the wait listed applications (except those withdrawn obviously).

We also should remember that moving the AMCAS deadline for single acceptances from May 15th to April 30th this year means the wait list timeline could be different from years past. Maybe they are trying something new... It would explain the lack of high priority wait list emails from early April.

I wouldn't recommend calling the office to ask more about the wait list movement, at least for now. I listened to a relatively lengthy voice recording before talking to anyone at the office and it emphasized that they don't give information about acceptances over the phone. It was actually sort of funny as they described the application process as "agonizingly long for the applicants" and to be "as patient as possible" for the information. Those exact words.

Hang in there everyone!

I heard that they haven't gone to the waitlist yet, which is very upsetting. People have withdrawn according to this thread.. Why haven't they filled those spots?

they probably initially accept more spots than they even have expecting some to withdraw, so possible they're still full

So I'm a bit confused.

Is Rochester not going to have ANY wait-list movement? Are they full? I can't even tell if school's wait lists are moving this year. It seems like there is a lot less movement than years past.

Can someone chime in? How about in year's past? Is Rochester a school with heavy wait-list movement?

So curious and anxious too!

Let me preface this by saying that I haven't posted this earlier since this is information I heard from a friend who had a conversation with a medical school professor not involved in admissions (I'm guessing that this is probably not the most reliable source).

Anyway, what I was told was that this year the admissions committee extended far too many acceptances compared to previous years.

So yeah, that kinda sucks. Hopefully something changes or this information is just wrong. Good luck to everyone anxiously waiting with me!

Damn

I have just been rejected from the wait list. Good luck to everybody still in it and congratulations to the 2019 class!

Called today. People have been accepted, but not within the past three weeks. The waitlist is unranked. My top school and apparently I won't be going. Honestly it's upsetting.

Thanks for the info and update. I'm surprised they didn't kick more off of their WL when they did if there has been almost 0 movement since the email

So when can we hear from them about our status? I've been emailing them but they don't even reply to my emails..
I've directly called them back in late April and they said a 'few' people have already been accepted from the WL but accepting more people would be at a "very low" chance. 🙁

Had a friend pulled from the WL sometime recently, so it seems there is at least some movement

That's good to hear. How long ago is 'recently' though?
And does anyone know when the final decisions go out for everyone?

I emailed admin office and they told me only 4 offers have gone out to the waitlist in total...

Thanks for updating. I thought no one cared at this point.
So is the waitlist still going on or has it been closed off? I've emailed them four times and they have not replied to one..

I think they replied to me bc I explained I was about to sign a lease elsewhere and I needed to know if there was any hope at all... they basically said class is full, it's been an unusual year with only 4 wait-list offers, and to proceed at the other school. They and another school both told me that they haven't sent out final decisions (rejections) yet to many on the waitlist bc there is always the very rare chance someone drops last minute and they need to pull someone off.

Yup I got the same thing. I don't think they're gonna pull anyone else off the waitlist, tbh

They've finally told me that the waitlist has been closed off to many students and the remainders are people that they will chose from if a student does decide to withdraw (which is highly unlikely at this point). They said that all final notifications will be released by the end of July. I'll be looking forward to my rejection soon.

Received my rejection a couple weeks ago. Something about being in the top 15 percent of those interviewed but them not being able to issue me an acceptance. Not sure that math works out. GL to all still on the list.

Wow that's odd.. Did you also give them a letter of intent? I think the people still on the list are people that kept in contact with the school with continued interest.
But I'm not entirely sure.
