So is it safe to say at this point that those of us still on hold are officially wait-listed? If so, is there a separate letter sent out for that?
Diane said that we will get our final decision letters in the first or second week of April which will say that we are either accepted, rejected, or waitlisted

I'm pretty sure that if you're on hold then you're going to be at least put on the wait-list in April. They put about 200-300 people on the wait-list which is WAY more than the ~60 that actually get offers, so i think that they just rank the holds and call it a wait-list. No one actually gets rejected until the class fills up.

Honestly, I wish they would limit the size of the hold list and send us rejections if we don't make it. Yeah, it sucks getting rejected but at least that way we can start planning for next year...

What percentage of the "hold" gets accepted whether than simply put on the wait list? I understand that you are saying that no one will get rejected at this point, but it also seems like you are implying that no one gets accepted either. If a significant number of applicants get accepted off the hold list then I would consider it to be quite different than a typical wait-list. Perhaps I am just being optimistic.

Oh sorry, I didn't mean to say there are no acceptances. I think someone said earlier that they got accepted off the hold list in January. Also once they make the waitlist, they'll accept the first x number of the list to fill the class. These people will probably never get the wait-list letter. After the responses from the first wave of acceptances, they'll keep going down the list until the class is full.

Most likely towards the end of April. I was told that final decisions will be made April 17.

Same here. It's horrible that some of us have to wait all the way until may to find out that there's really no shot unless you in at least the top third. Last year there were about 240 people on the hold list and about 45-50 were accepted off the wait-list, so it varies from year to year. I know this because I was in the top 60, so it was pretty disappointing for me.

Once offered acceptance, what usually follows; is there a deposit, is the financial aid office supposed to contact you, etc... or do i call the school?

Just to add one more data point to all the speculation, I have a few friends who are current students and they have told me on multiple occasions that a lot of people get accepted off the hold list before being officially waitlisted. Either way, this radio silence is slowly killing me.

There's no deposit, but you need to return a form saying you've received the acceptance. You also have to register with the UT system and there's a $75 fee associated with that.

Okay so the wait list churns a bit till (this cycle) a bit after May 15 - the updated AAMC traffic rules (renamed as of this year to "Application and Acceptance Protocols" but whatever, they're still the traffic rules) say that no later than April 30, people holding multiple acceptances are supposed to pick one school and notify the others in order to free up those seats. This and the other school threads will see a sharp uptick in "I let this one go, good luck to whoever gets my spot"/"Hey guys, I got the phone call!" activity during that churning (aaaaand now I'm mentally seeing that recent video of people feeding piranhas raw meat from off a dock, great) - and hopefully we will cause some of that noise! HOWEVER, if someone's offered an acceptance up to and including April 30, then regardless of this deadline they still have two weeks to consider the offer, so really, the ~May 15 date for this remains unchanged in many ways from last year. (Someone please correct me if I've got this wrong, since I'd really like to know about this but this is based on my reading from the AAMC traffic rules website.)

After that churning's done, the "~60 folks get in off the hold list" starts applying as the folks who DIDN'T obey the traffic rules start obeying them, freeing up those seats, and/or folks rethink their decision about going to medical school at all. That process takes time and is a bit slower in speed and for every school ends in the Fall/latest Summer.

Does anyone know when the final interviews are?

EDIT: I previously said that the interviews would go into mid April, but I'm now realizing that a current student said they were already finished. That's good to hear! So much earlier that last year when they finished interviewing in mid May.

Does that mean that final decisions might come out sooner than April 17th?

Is acceptance even a possibility at this point, or is wait list the best possible outcome? Has anyone heard anything about numbers at this point from the admissions office?
Last year some got acceptance letters MOST got waitlist confirmation. I believe the emails that were sent out were different, but its been a year so I cant remember. So to answer your question, yes it is possible to get an acceptance.

So hey, just FYI for the thread and those of us on the hold list: I got off the phone with Nelson Strothers a little while ago and until later in the year and close to classes beginning (so ~ June) you'll get snail mail letters, not phone calls, if you're accepted off the list.

Did he confirm April 17th is the day final decisions go out?

I've heard UT is normally good about keeping reapplicants relatively consistent from year to year on wait list. Anyone care to confirm? (IE middle third with improved stats generally would be at least as high next year)

I guess we will see. I was top 50 last year (they admitted something like 48), and have been told they like what I have been doing in the mean time. I was not accepted after interviewing this year (placed on hold), but remaining positive until I have reason not to be! I will update once I hear something.
DUDE!!! You were so stinking close.

Just got an interview invite, any idea how full the class is?

According to the AMCAS traffic rules, they were supposed to have enough acceptances to compose a full class by March 15.

Gotcha. Well, I figure I might as well interview and see what happens. Definitely would be nice to have in-state tuition!

Sooo do we know for sure whether there is a committee meeting today? Also, if anyone gets an email saying a letter is on the way, please let the rest of us know, pretty pleaseee 🙂
There are more interviews next week, so they probably won't send out final decisions today

Just got accepted yesterday! This is surreal! Interviewed on April 7th. Best of luck to you all! I'm rooting for you guys to get in!

Congratulations! They must have liked you very much.

Yeah it was emailed copy of the acceptance letter and that my actual acceptance letter is in the mail!

Does anyone know if the admissions timeline on UTHSC's site is correct? According to the timeline, final decisions are mailed by today.

That's awesome, congrats! :highfive: Any reason they emailed you a copy of your acceptance- I thought they were adamant about notifying applicants via snail mail?

Sounds like pamarty is still getting a snail mail.

ETA: Oh, wait, I see. Pamarty was accepted at the first AdCom meeting after interviewing. Probably an issue of slightly different procedure, where there's the email plus the followup "real" snail mail acceptance offer.

Haha, thanks for the edit because I was all like, "Calm down, Beyonce!" there for a minute. But yeah, your explanation makes sense. So, all of those on hold should now be receiving an acceptance email prior to the official mail packet? It seems like they are doing things totally different this year...

The way things this year seem to be going, I would imagine that we'll all get an email telling us to expect snail mail about our status there after the final decision work they are supposed to be getting done today. I think?

Bless Diane and Charmayne. Bless them. The amount of times they must stay late at the office....

I'm sure some will get a few acceptances with their final decision. I doubt there will be too much movement until after the April 30th deadline.

Is there a second survey email then? I was under the impression that we only got the initial survey with our first mailed decision (accept, decline, hold). What is the purpose of a second?

Edit: Realized what you meant after I posted. You're asking about the surveys from the people who JUST interviewed. Derp.
