Since 2012, the earliest someone posted about getting off the waitlist at UTSW was Apr. 5. Last year was May 9.

^Yup. There was also that one year when someone said that they'd emailed the admissions office and they posted a screenshot of the response.

The email stated that a good amount of acceptances had gone out post match day and before March 25th I believe. I had the screenshot on my phone but I deleted it. I can try to find it again...

So some years we may get a good idea of when movement actually starts, and others... not so much.
 
Does anyone know if this new Pass/Fail system at UTSW will include a relative ranking of the class (either for AOA or residency letter purposes)?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think for the 1.5 preclinical years, it is true P/F with no internal ranking.
 
Are we automatically on the waitlist if we interview at UTSW? I never got a waitlist e-mail to my knowledge (it's very possible that it went to my spam folder which has since been deleted).

I would assume so. If you can't find it in your junk, a quick email to admissions might be worth while.

Just to be sure you are on and also weren't a part of the rejections that went out.

Personally, I think you're fine.
 
Looks like it was in my inbox afterall. Dunno why I didn't see it the first time...
 
So it seems like the consensus is that there will be a lot of wait list movement here because 1) they were oddly very conservative with pre-match/match offers and 2) they have cut down their wait list at least once since it went out.

Can't wait for May!

UTSW has the reputation, but UTHSCSA has a solid curriculum set up and a more chill environment. Both are great school located in two great cities. The choice is yours.

Uhh UTSW also has a pretty chill environment and most interviewing students I talked to were surprised how friendly it was. But a new curriculum will definitely be a gamble, but I don't think it will be bad, the administration has put in a lot of work these past few years trying to get it right.
 
Stats of those accepted off the waitlist along with interview dates?

Come to Southwestern!! You can't turn down the opportunity to rotate at the new Parkland hospital. Also, Southwestern allows you to really customize your medical school experience once you finish your preclinicals with a lot of research and clinical opportunities
 
Good friend of mine got accepted of the waitlist Monday as well! Happy for her, but would have loved to hear something myself!

Still, her MCAT was actually pretty low for Southwestern, so there's definitely hope for everyone!
 
For those of you lucky enough to be choosing between UTSW and Baylor: Both are excellent institutions, clinical facilities should be a very important consideration for anyone choosing between these school. Both schools have a large county hospital ( Ben Taub and Parkland), the shifting sands of private institutions affiliated with Baylor should be a consideration, as well as the probationary status. Both schools have stellar research opportunities. The transition to a new curriculum should not be an issue for the level of students UTSW attracts. I graduated from UTSW, residency at Baylor. Both schools produce good doctors, I think UTSW has an edge with hands on clinical experience, I had WAY more hands on than my fellow interns from Baylor. I felt superbly trained when I started residency. Just one opinion. I never ever felt anything other than a friendly cooperative attitude from my classmates. I would have loved to have had an opportunity to work in the new Parkland, a new chapter for a legendary hospital! Congratulations to all of you!!

Why is that? I was under the impression that Baylor students had 2.5 years of clinical experience as opposed to 2 years for UTSW students (at least through the class of 2018). Also, Baylor has lead the nation in Step 1 scores for years. Since you did your residency there, do you have any insight into why that might be? The curriculum? The professors? I think the fact that Baylor students consistently average 240+ is pretty compelling and a reason that a lot of applicants might choose to attend.

Starting with the Class of 2019, the UTSW curriculum has moved to the 1.5 pre-clinical system.

Being able to do clinicals before step 1 is a very huge advantage, it only makes sense that Baylor has a higher average. I suspect UTSW's score to rise fairly rapidly with the new curriculum.

I have not start clinicals yet, but I assume the poster was saying UTSW had better clinicals because they give their medical students more responsibilities than the med students get at Baylor.
 
In today too! Definitely going here over UTHSCSA. Honestly thought I bombed the interviews and didn't have a shot. Needless to say I am extremely happy.
 
Since I was just accepted off the WL, can I still submit my acceptance letter to UTSW while holding my acceptance at another school?
 
It looks like you are pretty set on Keck..........so I'm not sure why you are going to hold on to the acceptance.
I digress:
Technically you can send in the acceptance until May 15, but if you aren't actually leaning towards coming to southwestern then you should withdraw from the school so that other waitlisters can be notified in a timely fashion to begin looking for housing and getting financial aid information.

Thanks for the recommendation, but I have to actually accept the offer before I am given my financial aid information from UTSW.

Ok, go ahead and send in the acceptance then. Sorry, I was misled by your posts about matriculating at Keck because it seemed you had already made up your mind. I'm just thinking about those on the waitlist! Best of luck with your decision. 🙂

Thanks man and no worries! I've spoken with Anne McClain on the phone multiple times and she assured me my spot would go to someone else if I chose not to attend as long as I withdraw by May 15, and if they dont get a response they remove me from consideration immediately. They have to fill up every spot somehow! As soon as I make my final decision ill respond immediately, I know how agonizing the wait is :nailbiting:
 
BTW, for those who might have forgotten/missed it like I did, I was reading through the wait list email that was sent in Feb and found this:

If you are holding a place at another school, is it still possible to receive an offer from UT Southwestern. Yes. However, after June 1st no medical school in Texas may offer a position to an applicant already accepted by another medical school in Texas.

So if you've been accepted elsewhere and are holding off on finding a place, I suggest you at least start looking around. I started looking this week and there are limited spaces near where I'm probably going to end up going.
