2014-2015 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
However, the deadline to not hold multiple acceptances last year was May 15th...

The way I understand it, in the coming days/week(s) adcoms at top schools will have their post 4/30 meetings to decide how many they will add to their classes. Then they will pull from waitlists and then those people will do "illegal" moves. Then the spots they previously held will open up down the line at other schools and those schools with pull from their waitlists.

This domino cascade goes until orientations start (Aug) because schools won't pull people out of orientation, that's the only unbreakable rule. I think the dominos probably start at Harvard and UCSF but they criss-cross along the way.

Being one of these dominos myself, I hope somebody tips the first one soon!!!

Still haven't squared away housing yet... Anyone else still looking or have any places you've looked at?

Housing is quite the pain, it seems! My partner and I found this beautiful 4 bedroom house that is one block away from the school, but it requires three other people and is slightly out of budget (680/person/month). We are thinking about pursuing this option 1) if we can find people and 2) if we can convince the owner to drop the price by 200, which would make it a bit more financially feasible.

Trying to balance cost, quality, and proximity is becoming quite the challenge!

burlington is definitely starting to get pretty pricey -- i don't know many people who are paying less than 650 per person. there are better prices in the surrounding towns

Feel free to PM me if you want! I'd be interested in seeing the place and seeing if we would be a good fit.

Is there any danger looking for a place during July? Unsure what the market is like there, I figured I could find a place then but it's sounding like perhaps I should be looking earlier

Probably not. I'd prefer to find a place I can stay in for my whole time there, though. I know one of the forms due July 1st for matriculation asks for an address but I'm sure that can be changed after the fact.

when i moved here 2 years ago i found a place in august. i might have just gotten lucky though

Do most people find they need to request extra aid to pay for the health insurance? Current students?

Still no word for any OOS movement on the wait-list??

Still no OOS movement....

I was looking at MDapplicants, and it looks like a lot of people that were accepted decided to matriculate. I wonder if they have higher than normal matriculants at this phase, and maybe it's delaying their ultimate waitlist decision. Or maybe I'm so anxiously awaiting this that I'm trying to make up whatever reason seems to make most sense....

Interesting. I feel you...who knows what really going on but I love UVM. Hoping for something

i tried calling all yesterday afternoon but no one picked up. i'm working today -- does someone want to call and ask if the waitlist has been moving and/or if there are any open seats?

I called couple days ago. Said class is full but anticipate some movement. But it ain't looking like it...

Yup, still pining. And jumping on this thread whenever someone posts in it. UVM's the only waitlist I'm holding onto at this point.

And there is still just the one OOS waitlist acceptance reported on MDapps.

i called this week and was told more or less the same thing Mamba was. the lady said there had been some movement but that it was less than in years past

i was told on the phone that they don't do the IS/OOS thing, but who knows. it'd be hard to fault them for not wanting to give up that ~100k in tuition, lol

just withdrew the other day, hope one of you guys snags that spot and the 80k scholarship!

Kind of a silly question but anyone know if there's a dress code of any sort during classes at UVM? I know some places expect business attire (shirt/tie, etc.) and others don't care, wasn't sure where they stand on this.

There is a dress code for orientation (business casual and they have a nice handout detailing what it is), but I don't think it carries over to classes. You can always dress to impress/for success if that's your cup of tea!

OOS accepted off the waitlist last week! So excited! A couple questions for ya'll, do you know what particular laptop and tablet we'll be receiving when school starts? Also, how do I go about learning how to remove snow and ice from my car everyday? (I live in Phoenix, AZ)

Congratulations! I am also curious re: computers- are you a member of the facebook group yet?

Any Class of 2019 on here looking for housing? Another incoming-1st year and I are looking for some roommates.

PM me if you're interested.

So I actually called to ask about the tech we get and it's the Yoga 2 Pro and the Nexus 7 tab.

:happy:Omg, this new MCAT is looking DREADFUL. For the love of God, Vermont, take me off the waitlist!!!
On an unrelated note, anyone hear of any movement? ☺️

No news here 🙁 Hopefully my psych degree will come in handy for the new MCAT...

Just got accepted today! OOS LizzyM 70. Interviewed in February.

Life changing moment! Keep your head up everyone still waiting! There is still hope !

Can't wait to see everyone in the fall!

To all accepted student: How longer after acceptance did you receive your login information for the portal OASIS? Thanks!

Acceptance in November. Log-in credentials on online applicant portal after submitting the survey (not sure of timeline). OASIS email came March 25.

If you have your username (NetID) and password for myuvm, I think you can sign in to OASIS!

Just use campus\ before your username (John Smith, NetID: jsmith --> use campus\jsmith) in order to log in to OASIS.

Can we assume that exams will be at the end of each block on the schedule they gave us (I think they gave it to us on interview day or second look day)? My partner wants to buy some plane tickets and we are trying to figure out which weekends to avoid. Any suggestions on who I could contact at the school to ask?
