I know someone who got rejected post-interview at UVM so being on the waitlist is a good sign!

Anyone know what the movement was like on the waitlist last year? I can't find last year's thread

Disclaimer: I'm bored in the airport.

I've likely missed things, but after scrolling through the thread, this is what I've collected:

Interview dates: 9/20, 9/27, 10/18, 10/25, (none in November?), 12/11, 12/17, 1/24, 2/7, 2/12, 3/7, 3/11.

Acceptances mentioned: 28
Withdrawn acceptances mentioned: 1
Waitlists mentioned: 16
Withdrawn waitlists mentioned: 1
Post-interview rejections mentioned: 1

Where did you hear this? They didn't mention that the admissions process changed during my interview day...

Didn't there used to be an automatic OOS waitlist in previous years? Or am I completely bonkers?

I've looked through the past few years, and there was an OOS waitlist but it seems they stopped using it late in the cycle last year.

I've been keeping tallies too of the decisions. The seemingly small amount of rejections perplexes me, but I don't pretend to know much about this process.

So UVM has just one WL? Not OOS and Qualified/Alternate like last year?

Ohhhhhhh I gotcha!

And acceptances/waitlists/rejections are all self-reported, so I would expect people would be less willing to announce waitlists and rejections if they're SDN active at all.

I am OOS and also received notice that I am on the qualified/alternate waitlist after a March interview. Definitely wishing it would magically turn into an acceptance...

I would expect lots of movement starting May 1st. Last year's date to hold only one acceptance was May 15th I believe, explaining the acceptances starting the 16th. Fingers crossed!

doesn't look like anyone was accepted this time around, so maybe we all got waitlisted to buy time until 4/30 when people withdraw and they can see how much room they have for acceptances?

....that's my psychotic theory and I'm sticking to it.

it's always a bit unwise to extrapolate SDN postings to all applicants, but it is a bit strange how no one ever posts about a post-interview rejection from UVM. hopefully the wait list isn't 500 people

I interviewed the same day and have not heard anything yet.

One of my friends got rejected post interview. I'm not crazy....

I didn't receive an email, but just checked my portal and saw that I am on the "waitlist of qualified/alternate candidates". I'm OOS.

I interviewed on the last interview date in March. Maybe if you haven't received an email, check the portal for a status update!

Edit--the portal also said "last updated 4/10/15" so maybe most of yours have been updated too! I hope this information helps, and good luck to everyone!

The committee met this past Wednesday and they are not reviewing applications in the order of the interviews anymore. Everyone who has not received a decision will get it around the 23rd, which is when they meet again. Since it seems like everyone who heard yesterday was waitlisted, my theory is those that have not heard are being held onto till next week to see how many seats open up. At that point for those who that have not been waitlisted/rejected will be either given an acceptance or be also put on the waitlist. Just my 2 cents

Thank you for the update. :)

Hey guys! For what it is worth, my classmate (accepted last month) got a "wellness committee welcome" email from UVM this morning and they didn't suppress recipient list...there were 178 recipients...some could be current students, but there were no UVM med email addresses on the list.

Just to provide some sunshine to the situation, rumor has it UVM is very particular about filling their in-state slots. Of course, I could be wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if a VERY small number of OOS people get accepted outright. Thus, while I know we'd all love the initial acceptance, the waitlist is a pretty solid place to be. Look towards May, and I'm wishing you all the best of luck!
This is the kind of thing which is very frustrating as an in-state student on the waitlist. I know they only have to offer seats to 50% In-staters but after they have offered these seats they have no commitment to In-state students. This is especially problematic when you look at their class profiles for the class entering in 2014: 81 OOS 34 IS. That means that while they offered up 50% of the seats to VT residents, only 30% of the class was from VT. I know this is a stretch but with this information, I feel like anyone on the Waitlist as an in stater is as good as rejected.

Here is a potential example of this troublesome situation: 2 students, equally qualified (obviously impossible to be totally equal but humor me for a sec) are placed on the waitlist. 1 is Out of State and 1 is In state. An in state accepted student is accepted to Harvard Med and withdraws their application. Now UVM gets to decide who to offer their acceptance to: an in state student who will pay $37k/year or an Out of state student who will pay $61k/year? pretty obvious choice if you ask me. With this rant nearing its completion, please tell me, why in any scenario would UVM accept an in state student off the wait list? O well, it's only my entire life on the line, no reason to take it too seriously

it's certainly true there are economic realities at play

beyond that i think both of you are getting pretty deep into conjecture

@ky3427, thanks for the info!

Looks like I'm the only one who haven't heard anything who interviewed on February 12th

I interviewed Feb. 12th and also haven't heard anything. Still says in the portal that I'll receive an e-mail in the upcoming weeks about UVM's final decision. You're not alone!!!

Hello! I'm a third med student year here at UVM and I'm happy to answer any questions anyone may have. For all those wait listed, the wait sucks - I know. But don't be discouraged. Keep on sending letters and calling the office expressing your desire to attend UVM. If you don't get in this time, ask for some feedback during the summer and focus on improving your application in the meantime. When and if you do apply next year, change the focus of your application/essays on how you've improved since the previous cycle. Best of luck to all!

Anyone else get a financial aid package that is extremely low - like not even enough to cover tuition for OOS?

I received all loans that covered the cost of attendance... Going to have to do some serious soul-searching!

I got it figure out. For anyone else who runs into this problem.....call the financial aid office and they will fix it right away. I'm good now.....well if you consider massive amounts of loans good.

Hey guys! Just curious how long an offer of acceptance off the waitlist is valid after April 30th? I'll be out of the country and contact from May 1st through May 12th so I wanted to let my brother know what to expect if a call or email comes! Thanks and good luck to all!

I believe it is 2 weeks based on what is listed under AAMC traffic rules.

Edit: I would Google AAMC rules just to be sure

Just called them and they confirmed 2 weeks to reply and a deposit is required to hold your seat. You can designate someone as a proxy to respond on your behalf. I think the AAMC traffic rules says a minimum of 5 days if offered an acceptance after April 30th.

Sorry if this has already been asked: is there any difference this year between waitlist status? Last year I know there were two waitlists ( one which was a regular waitlist and a qualified waitlist). Is that the same for this year as well?

Withdrew my acceptance today. Hope my spot goes to one of you!! Patience really is a virtue... :watching:
