Hey everyone! Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I'm really interested in attending UVA. I've been working on my pre-write for their secondary (for 2016 AMCAS). For the why UVA essay I just want to make sure I'm on the right track and highlighting the appropriate things. It seems like UVA's big focuses are their :Next Gen Curriculum that integrates basic sciences with clinical experience early on in medical school, the strides they are taking towards making sure UVA trained physicians are culturally competent, and the fact that they are very research oriented.

For any of you who are actually attending UVA or will matriculate this fall, is this the vibe you got while on campus? What else did you like about UVA? Thanks!!

Major things that stand out to me are that Charlottesville is a refugee center, so cultural competence is a big point. CPD is one on one mentoring with a physician throughout the four years, which is intimate and gets you clinical experience early. There's also a free clinic where you can volunteer for early experience, but I haven't done this myself. The curriculum is huge, and they will certainly want to hear you talk about it. I like the emphasis on teamwork (eg. TBLs, and they love to talk about them), and the integrated systems based curriculum is great in that it's more efficient (18 months as opposed to 24), is organized better if you ask me, and allows you to get more clinical experience/do more rotations before you have to apply to residencies, which is great.

Hope this helps
