Is a major car accident followed by a law suit considered a "challenging situation" for this secondary? I will be talking about how I dealt with the accident at the time (checking on the other driver, calling 911 etc.) and what I learned from dealing with the law suit over the last two years.

I would think so. My challenging situation was definitely less severe than that.

Submitted my secondary for UVa! Loving it because of the memorable SMDEP experience on its lovely campus! Good luck to everyone!

I just got a secondary from them, I have a 3.8 GPA and a 26 MCAT with 240h of nursing home work, a current lab job, 130ish doctor shadowing hours. Should I send one in or am I just wasting my time?
also OOS and non URM

Are there any students who interviewed here in the past and can comment on their impressions of the interviews?

I've heard of people getting in with low MCAT scores, but they were URMs. You probably won't get an interview with an MCAT that low.

The interviews are laid back and conversational. The interviewer is trying to get a feel of who you are as a person. You will have two half hour interviews, and at least one will be with a faculty member. The other may be with a fourth year student or with a second faculty member, depending on the staffing that day and the time of year.

Thanks for the reply. @mvenus929 , what did you like/dislike most about UVA? Did you have a good experience there? Now as a resident, how would you say UVA students are regarded with respect to matching?

I liked the people the most. I applied to UVA randomly and it was my first interview of the season (during my second season), and I just fell in love with the place while I was there. Everyone was very welcoming and seemed happy.

My dislikes have more to do with the fact that my class was the first on the NexGen curriculum than anything with UVA itself. We had a really rough couple years, but they changed just about everything we complained about so the current fourth years had it pretty easy, comparatively.

Overall, I had a very good experience and I am very glad that I went to UVA.

UVA has a very strong alumni network, which helps during application season. I had a PD come up to me during the interview day and remark on how good our PD was. I went into Peds, and the benefit of UVA is that you can easily get to know some prominent faculty members. I had the PD write me a personal LOR, and she had been teaching our class since the first day of school. So, generally, I'd say UVA students are well regarded during the match. We certainly had a good match list across the board.

Congrats on the interview! Haha I'm jealous 😛. I submitted weeks ago but I guess it's just a waiting game. It does look like they're interviewing ppl with extremely high stats first though.

Did you end up getting a confirmation email about the IS privilege form being received?

Thank you! And nope, never got a confirmation. It looks like its anywhere from 1-2 weeks for processing.

UVA is surprisingly quick. I got my II invite last Tuesday and I submitted my secondary only three days before. Definitely appreciate not having to wait around anxiously

II this morning. Complete on Wednesday, and I'm attending my interview on October 1st.

IS / 3.8 / 41

U.Va. undergraduate too, so I hope to see many of you around!

II this afternoon! first in the season. After a rejection and a "hold" e-mail I felt pretty deflated and this definitely cheered me up!

Man, just got an email congratulation me again on my interview invite from a few weeks ago, subject "Interview Invititation". Thought I got another interview invite, heart skipped a beat!
+1

Hahahaha I feel like that's the first world problem of IIs!

+1 on that hahaha so dumb!

Planning on sending an update later this month. Anyone know how to do that?

II this morning! OOS, 3.9+, 38. Complete ~7/30. Thanks UVA for showing some love 🙂 (although what is up with only having available dates Tu/W/Th...)

Congrats for everybody with an II from UVA!! According to USNews they accept 298 out of the 473 they interview OOS, so about 63%-not bad at all. Does anyone know if they accept a higher percentage if you interview early like before November?

So far I've noticed that everyone who got II's (good job, everyone btw) has really high stats. What else are they looking for?

They have to run out of high stat applicants eventually. Thats when they get to us plebeians who are also amazing 😉

haha yes. I agree 🙂 I didn't think my LizzyM score was too shabby, until I saw everyone here with their 4.0 and 38+s lol

LOL I have a 3.7+/36 but I think my EC's are making them not consider me highly. Also, it sucks to not be able to submit update letters via their secondary website.

I think that U.Va. goes after students with high application statistics first because they release their acceptances much earlier (start mid October). It's a way of trying to attract students that they might not normally, in my opinion. Overall, I would say that U.Va. is tends to lean on the more holistic aspect of the process. Community is a big aspect of the experience, so I think they have that in mind. They even have several fourth years who are on the admissions committee.

Anyway, most of this is second hand information so take it for what it's worth.

Yeah I'm not too worried. Look at it this way: their average mcat is 35-36. If they accept a lot of these students then they have to go for lower stats to even it out. 😀

I have faith in UVa🙂

There was a girl from my university that was accepted with a 28. She had loads of service/EC and is an URM.

Complete this morning. Hoping for some love! UVA has a fast turnaround time it seems too?
