2014-2015 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So interviews here are done, correct? Because I'm still on hold. I don't care at all, I'm into my top choice, but it's just so weird how this whole process works.
+1-ish. Definitely not into my top choice, but still on hold and confused. Love me or let me go, Wake Forest, love me or let me go.

Just got the axe. They sent a letter basically saying I was considered for an interview but then ultimately no longer considered.

I feel like this perfectly sums up the relationship between applicants and med schools lol

Is 2nd look this weekend? (The M4s are out of the loop) I think this is the first year that we've done a 2nd look, does anyone know what the itinerary looks like?

Match day is Fri, so we will be an entertaining bunch this weekend.

I received a snail mail rejection letter this past week. I had been on the alternate list since mid November. I find it a bit odd that they would trim their alternate list even before April starts, but at least I know and won't have to consider them in my plans.

Sorry to hear. Did you get an e-mail along with the snail mail? And had you sent in a LOI?

I did not get an email, but now I see they did update my portal to say my decision is being mailed to me. I did send a letter of interest a few days after being placed on the waitlist because they asked for confirmation if I wanted to remain on it or not. I had some stuff to update them with and I was planning to send it closer to April 30th, guess I should have sent it sooner. Not sure it would have had an effect and it's too late now.

Anybody going to the 'Second Look' events tonight? If so, see you soon. Excited to meet you all. :=|:-):

ME TOO!!!! Cannot even believe it!! Third time applicant, wailtisted for over 9 months at another school last cycle. Praise God for perseverance, it's been a long journey!! Cannot wait to start!!!!

Congrats guys! Love seeing good news on here

Anyone know when we can expect to receive orientation info/info about what there is left to be done (like sending in final transcripts and immunization forms) before we matriculate?

Along with this, when do students generally search for/find apartments/roommates?

Have you joined the Facebook group? There's a spreadsheet there to help people find roommates, and another spreadsheet set up by the graduating MS4s who are offering their apartments/houses up for rent.

As far as when... It depends! I moved down mid-May because I was reeeeally excited to move and get started on life here. Others moved down closer to matriculation (particularly if they got off the waitlist late). If you're picky about where you live (for instance, if you definitely need a house with a fenced in yard for your 150 lb dog and need 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms), I'd say get started now so you don't miss out - Some of the listings on Craigslist already say things like "available June 1." On the other hand, if all you want is an apartment close to campus, my understanding is that a lot of the complexes nearby pretty much always have openings.

But yeah, join the Facebook group and ask questions about finding housing and life in Winston-Salem! A lot of the MS2018 class is responding to incoming student questions there.

Also just rescinded my acceptance of Wake's offer as well. Best of luck to all in the running, looking forward to being colleagues in a few short (...long) years!

I know everyone is getting antsy about waitlist movement, but hang tight folks. It will happen on a rolling basis as people withdraw acceptances and the committee is able to meet. Movement on the WL is far from over, so stay tuned.

Thanks! Do you have any idea when movement will start? I called last Wednesday and the lady on the phone said I should know "in the next week or so", so I'm hoping by the end of the week.

Oh sweet Jesus I hope so. I've gotta know already!

I called and Ashley let me know that May 15th is usually the biggest wait list movement day (that's how it was last year apparently). They accept people up until July 26th. So next week should be a good day for a lot of people!

She also said nobody has been accepted off of the wait list as of yet, they are still processing acceptances and reviewing wait listed applicants.

Quick question for you all, as I've been wondering about this for a while now. When I got an interview from Wake, my alma mater, early in the cycle, I thought I was set. But I was subsequently wait listed. Have any Wake Forest undergrads been accepted? Most schools give preference for their own undergrads, but from what I've seen, WF has been wait listing their undergrads. Keep in mind these are impressive candidates that have been accepted elsewhere.

I've completed my long, arduous journey to get accepted to medical school, so I'm certainly "not mad, bro." I'm simply curious if anyone has some experience with what I am talking about.

I don't attend WF, but my undergrad does a similar thing. It seems like they initially waitlist the majority of applicants from their undergrad, and then expect them to write a letter confirming that they actually want to go there. I've heard this is to combat having students just apply there as a back up since they expect their own school to accept them

Does anyone know if the class of 2019 will be using the new facilities or if the 2nd year curriculum will be affected in any way?

I attended Wake undergrad and was accepted straight out, no waitlist.

I believe the new building will be ready for c/o 2019 to use by the start of second year.

As far as the curicculum goes, I asked the same question on my interview day. They said there were minor changes like shortening LAUNCH, extending Pop Health & Epi thru M2, and adding an ultrasound class. Nothing too drastic from what I remember though.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I called last Tuesday and was told that there are "seats available" and that the admissions committee was "still deciding who they wanted to offer them to" and that they think the wait list would move by the end of the week (last week). It doesn't seem like they actually ended up offering anyone spots yet, though? Can anyone confirm or deny that? Or anyone brave enough to call this week and find out what the deal is?

I called yesterday and was told the admissions committee is not going to meet until after this Friday, so it looks like even more waiting team

Email, found out from checking the status portal thing about two hours before the email came in
