no, that is a perfectly valid question. Here, there is pre reading that you do before class. Instead of using Powerpoints to create these presentations they use ibooks because they are more interactive (videos, definitions at the touch of the button, interactive questions, and etc.). Each class that day will have an ibook associated with them. They are custom built, and thus take some time to create

WOW, that sounds awesome! They don't have it at the school I'm at (SMP) or at my boyfriend's school (M1 just a couple hours from WMed). Thank you so much for your response 😀

I'll add to Cpt Toad's answer an important note: We're a paper-free medical school. Everything we do is by iBooks and Inkling textbooks. So in place of paper and ink texts or materials, you get iBooks and Inkling textbooks (it also makes it way cheaper!)
 
Ugh, did anyone else feel like they bombed the phone interview? I couldn't seem to get the right words out of my mouth!
 
Mine took 30 mins. It was SUPER fast paced. For the most part my answers were good though. I improved as the time went on, but
I feel like I maybe didn't talk enough...
 
Did anyone have trouble accessing the secondary? I logged in a completed half of it, saved my work, and now when I go back to log in I can't find my application! 🙁 I tried calling but the office is closed right now.
 
Am I the only one having trouble submitting my secondary? I'm really really interested in this school so this is a major bummer! 🙁

Cpt Toad will answer I'm sure... but for me my phone interview was in Novembe, and my in-person was in mid-February (acceptance in early March)
 
Can someone clarify something for me? I received a complete e-mail on 8/12:

"Thank you for completing the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine supplemental application for the 2015 entering class. We will review all components of your application and be in touch via email soon regarding the next steps in the process."

Is this the same thing as the the holistic review starting, or is that something that comes later? If it is something that comes later, is it normal that I haven't received the holistic review notification over a month since being complete?

Have you checked the status page? If it says "holistic review started on XX/XX" then you know it has! I think the email you are quoting is the complete email, but I checked my inbox and I never received an email saying holistic review has started or ended. I just was neurotic and checked my status page often 🙂

Just checked my status - it went from "holistic started om/complete on" grid (I've been complete for awhile) to "Your query has no data." Anyone else have this same thing? I've reloaded but am not sure if they're having website issues or if this is like Pitt and I'm rejected haha

one month before I got an onsite interview.

but keep in mind that All the doctors have more on their plate this year, so your time may vary.

I wouldn't worry about that.

Click on the "Change filter parameters link"about a third of the way down on the left side of the page. It will take you to a " Global Variables" page. Change the Application Year to "2015: Dates 07/01/2015-06/30-2016". Nothing else. It is showing last year's cycle by default I think . I played around and it fixed mine.

Just wanted to update everyone who was worried about being stuck on holistic complete for a very long time. I was on it for a month or so and was just recently offered a phone interview. I was wondering if anyone knew the odds of getting a II after the phone interview? Thanks, and good luck everyone!

I saw the no data message as well and was like, "Okay, this is either going to be really bad or really good"...

And it was GOOD! See you there on Halloween day!!!!! 😀

*About* 600 phone interviews, about 300 in-person interviews, and 60 seated for the class of 2019. Out of probably 5000-6000 applicants.

I don't really understand the application process here. Shouldn't they know if they want to reject you or offer you a phone interview after doing a holistic review? Isnt that the point of a lengthy holistic review or am I just trippin balls??

You're trippin balls.

It's not a matter of a yes/no. They continue considering you with each batch of phone interviews.

For example, I didn't get a phone interview until mid-November, and I was ultimately accepted with no waitlist time.

You want to remain under consideration. Trust me. I know it's stressful, I know it sucks. But you want to remain under consideration so that you might be given a phone interview in a future batch.
 
Has anyone received phone interviews yet who have no ties to the area or Michigan? In other words, those who had nothing to say for the second part of essay #1...

I did, but I still talked about why I found michigan/Kalamazoo to be a good fit for me.

Just to address this thread a bit: there were definitely some awkward spots in my phone interview. Most notably, I said the explanation along with the yes/no to the initial yes/no question, and the interviewer followed-up (as supposed to) with "Why?" I was blabbering um's and should I's for a good 10 seconds before she repeated the full question, and I just proceeded to restate more or less what I said before. Even though I thought the rest went pretty well, I was worried that that would kill my chances. But, it didn't. It's nice to know that they really aren't out to expose our imperfections 😉 Good luck!

Holistic Review Completed...whats next? really hoping i get into this school, but i don't think i'm competitive enough.
