For those of you who got accepted/interviewed, would you mind sharing your gpa/mcat? I'm an OOS applicant and curious as to where i fall.
I have an acceptance from this school. I am nontraditional, bachelor's in music, used to be a music teacher, experience working with children, hospital volunteer, extensive experience working with the elderly, low end on the MCAT (dang psych section killed me), mid/high GPA, high end on the science courses.
What you have to keep in mind that they look at a lot more than just your GPA and MCAT. This school especially seems deeply interested in who the applicants are as people, why they want to be doctors, and whether or not they are willing to serve the underserved areas that need doctors. Not to say they don't accept anyone who wants to be a plastic surgeon, but they mainly want to train docs who want to stay in the state, and especially those who want to serve in rural areas (which is the demographic of the school itself).
Just looking at the numbers (via MSAR), the chances of OOS acceptance (considering the verified applications only) is 0.3% vs, IS 8.2%. Once you have an interview, the numbers are 7% OOS, to 43% IS. This is a school that wants to train doctors to serve Michigan patients, so being OOS makes it a bit harder for you.
So, it depends. Just comparing test scores is a very superficial means of judging where you fall. Schools seem to look a lot deeper now (which is a good thing I think!)
