2015-2016 Central Michigan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Could you tell me what books you bought to prepare for the interview? I have an interview coming up next month.
Thanks

Unlike lollipop864, I did not use any books to prepare. Instead, I found examples of random MMI questions online and practiced with my friends. Someone else from SDN also recommended videos from Course Grinder on YouTube, which I found to be very helpful.

+1

I believe we were told on interview day that we would receive an email message about these details after confirming our acceptance. (I haven't gotten that email yet)

I think we are supposed to get an acceptance packet with this information by mail, if I'm not mistaken?

I believe only after April 15 and if you're on the waitlist.. someone confirm this?
I'm wondering the same thing, I finished my Masters a semester earlier than anticipated and am really hoping that update would bump me into II territory!

I just e-mailed about this to them yesterday. Should hopefully get back soon. I'll let you guys know what they say.

Update for all of y'all, they e-mailed me back this morning (that was quick) and said they were good with pre-interview updates so send them if you like. I got a confirmation e-mail shortly after as well saying they added it to my file.

So.

I was complete on August 25h...

Still waiting, on the portal, for them to review my app.

Does it usually take this long? 😵

I just got an II from a different school, and I know of others who have had the same thing... so maybe. Hang in there!

Doesn't hurt to call... my application was complete later than yours and my application review was done a few weeks ago.

Is there another way to show interest in attending this school? I am currently on the waitlist, but they specifically said not to send any updates until April.

I do think I recall someone saying in last year's forum that they were rejected quite hastily off of the waiting list when they sent in grade updates...

Interviews are almost done, with the last being February 19th (I believe). A TON of movement happens between April and June, so just send in updates on the date they told you to. I waited to send updates in April (when we were told to send updates) and was pulled of the waitlist in mid-May. I would recommend writing a Letter of Intent that also includes a statement of things you've done since applied/interviewed, and attach documents verifying the things you did.

Hope this helps! Best wishes!

II offered today! They only had 1/29 open since they are trying to fill that date first, before February. I already have an interview that date and had to call them. Lucky enough for me, someone had just canceled their interview so I am interviewing this Friday!

Congratulations !!
IS or OOS ? Stats if you don't mind. Thanks

II email received a few days ago for Jan. 29th. Looking forward to meeting those who will be there as well!

For those of you who got accepted/interviewed, would you mind sharing your gpa/mcat? I'm an OOS applicant and curious as to where i fall.

I have an acceptance from this school. I am nontraditional, bachelor's in music, used to be a music teacher, experience working with children, hospital volunteer, extensive experience working with the elderly, low end on the MCAT (dang psych section killed me), mid/high GPA, high end on the science courses.

What you have to keep in mind that they look at a lot more than just your GPA and MCAT. This school especially seems deeply interested in who the applicants are as people, why they want to be doctors, and whether or not they are willing to serve the underserved areas that need doctors. Not to say they don't accept anyone who wants to be a plastic surgeon, but they mainly want to train docs who want to stay in the state, and especially those who want to serve in rural areas (which is the demographic of the school itself).

Just looking at the numbers (via MSAR), the chances of OOS acceptance (considering the verified applications only) is 0.3% vs, IS 8.2%. Once you have an interview, the numbers are 7% OOS, to 43% IS. This is a school that wants to train doctors to serve Michigan patients, so being OOS makes it a bit harder for you.

So, it depends. Just comparing test scores is a very superficial means of judging where you fall. Schools seem to look a lot deeper now (which is a good thing I think!)

My best advice:
Know the school's mission like the back of your hand... And relax. The interview day is about as stress free as they could possibly make it. 🙂

So hey, I was rejected pre interview a little while ago.

I was wondering if anyone here knew CMU's stance on advice for improving your application? Like am I allowed to call or email admissions about that?

Usually the schools are willing to talk about applicant's weaknesses and offer advice. You could probably call the admissions office and ask them.

II today as well. Complete mid-September. Nice surprise. I'm excited to see the school!
