2015-2016 Florida State University Application Thread

I believe hold IS the wait-list...? Stay optimistic, I have a MS-4 buddy who didn't get in until the day BEFORE orientation

Do you have any tips for getting off the waiting list? What I should do/include to update FSU?

Okay, I've been "under review" status since 9/11 with no correspondence since...

I don't have any advice, per se, but my friend sent an update email with his updated GPA after the Fall and also wrote an email reaffirming his desire to do primary care. If these emails played a difference, however, we'll never know.

So sorry if this has been asked before but are they receptive to in the area calls?
Also, about how quickly from the "Under Review" status update to a rejection or II notification?
I am also wondering the answer to this question. I have been accepted to other medical schools and interviews but it is all getting quite costly when I know that if I got into FSU I could cancel everything else and stop paying the rest of these crazy fees.

Do you guys know how doing a Masters program affects admissions? I had low stats LizzyM score of 60. I'm currently doing a Masters at Lincoln Memorial Uni (DO school). Doing pretty well, might get all As, maybe one B. Should I send them an updated transcript after the semester is over? In state applicant.

I would definitely update schools with your progress. I had a low undergrad gpa and all my interviewers ask me about the program I am doing well in now.

Agree w/ the poster above me. One of my interviewers at FSU brought up my master's program and talked about the success rates of students previously accepted from my program.

Just to ensure I'm not missing anything - FSU does not require a deposit, correct?

rubbersoul923 I asked the same question next year! Yep, no deposit required!

Same here....it makes me wonder if I'm still under consideration

Glad I'm not the only one... I sent e-mailed updates and have not had any confirmation of receipt. For anyone who has sent in updates, did they respond to you?

I haven't received a reply either. I called them and they said they print the updates and put them in our folders

For people who interviewed already, what is the format of the interview day?

I had a morning time slot. I arrived around 9, had a 30 minute or so introduction and video, than was directed to 2 traditional one hour interviews. After interviews, we ate and toured the school. Closed out with questions and meeting the dean of admissions (Dr. Patrick). They truly do everything they can to make you feel relaxed!

I was in the evening, so the two 1 hour interview where the last thing I did, but you also get to learn about the school which may help when it comes to the interview portion. So we pretty much toured the school, two of the deans came to talk to us at different times, and a few med students were with us the entire time pretty much. They were so nice and helpful!

Got placed on hold, very disappointing at this point. I thought my interviews went well. This is my first time applying, does anyone know if there is a difference between hold and a waitlist?
same here was interviewed in Oct, thought it went great

I just have a quick question: I want to apply to FSU MED next year early decision and I'd like to know what they look for in ED applicants. I'm competitive for the school and have ties to the area and community and I want to serve my subset of the community. Is it true that FSU should be contacted before you apply ED?

Thanks!

They are looking for academically competitive applicants that fulfill the mission of the FSUCOM. Read the mission statement and ask yourself if it really sounds like you, and also that your extracurricular experiences, personal statement, etc. demonstrate that. If so, early decision may be the way to go. Early decision is quite risky, obviously not everyone gets accept that applies ED, so have your secondaries for your back up schools ready. Even still it's late in the cycle by the time you would hear back, if you unfortunately were not accepted, so only apply ED if you really think it's the right way for you to go. GOOD LUCK! GO NOLES!

EDIT: No need to contact FSU before you submit your secondary

I sent an update letter the beginning of December and received no response but they sent me an interview invite on 12/18 so I think they do look at the updates.

In regards to thank you notes, does anyone know what time the committee meets on Tuesdays? I am a Tally naive so I am hoping that they will only take a day to get to the COM if I sent them early Monday morning

Congratulations morisseth! So happy for you! welcome to 2020 😀

You're welcome. You excited?

Definitely excited bro. Right now i'm just letting everything settle in while taking things one step at a time. Can't wait to connect with the other students and muscle through this next 4 years. I love the idea of the apprenticeship model along with student focused clinical rotations. I've never been to a big college campus (went to a state school and mostly commuted), so I'm anticipating the new environment.

What are some things you've come to admire/like and dislike about the med school, the environment at FSU and Tallahassee in general?
