2015-2016 Indiana University School of Medicine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm on the fence about applying to the program. How did you decide?

Most of the schools I am applying to either have a separate rural med program or are heavily rural med focused as I'm leaning towards rural family medicine. I am from a rural area and I have done a lot of shadowing with different physicians and I just feel that rural med is where I want to be. So because of that, I feel that a program focused more towards a training in rural medicine is where I will become the most prepared for the field!

II received on 8/6. Really looking forward to interview here. Does anyone know if the "Legal Disclosure Form" along with the "Dean of Students Evaluation" need to be completed before given an interview date?

You can receive an interview date without submitting them, but they must be submitted before attending your interview.

Application submitted and verified 8/1, application received 8/3, (tried to do EDP, but my AMCAS science GPA was lower than the requirement for IU's EDP), notified of deferment to regular applicant pool 8/5, got the interview notification 8/6! I'm super excited. Definitely wasn't expecting to get an interview within a week of submitting the application, though.

II on 8/7 IS. When you guys were filling out the grad application did you put the individual subject scores or just the composite? Because the instructions tell you both, but then the drop down only has the option of Total Score

Put the total score then! And if you're doing new MCAT it won't let you do it so leave it blank (per the admissions office...until they get it fixed that is!)

The only thing we need to have done to have our interviews scheduled is select the location preference (from the drop down menu) and submit our fee/app, correct?

I won't be back on campus for another 2 weeks, so it'll take some time to submit my paper forms (and the 7 day deadline is scaring me!)...

Have all EDP people gotten their interview invite already? Submitted 8/1, verified 8/3, IUSM email about app on 8/4... No news yet.

IS. LizzyM 75. 🙁

Rejected. OOS LizzyM 70, it was worth a shot lol
Edit: no ties, complete ~7/14

I'm sure you'll hear back from them soon. If the information my friend gave me is correct, the committee meets on Wednesdays. They'll get to it.

I've only heard of IS getting IIs so far. I'm not sure if that's true, but I wouldn't count yourself out yet. My guess is that they try to get through a fair number of IS before offering spots to OOS.

REJECTED. OOS, 70, went to undergrad in Indiana and had some community ties (if that means anything lol). Anyways, good luck to the rest of you. I worked with a lot of doctors in South Bend who went to IU and loved it

So bummed to hear that, I have similar stats/ties. Mind saying what day you submitted your primary? I'm sure with your stats (and possibly Notre Dame degree?) that you'll definitely get in somewhere!

I submitted it (ugh sorry) I think two weeks after it was possible to do so. mid june. I got the "amcas received email" July 14th. haha and yup (go irish) thanks for the support, I hope so too. good luck

For the II, are we supposed to schedule it, or do they schedule us AFTER all our paperwork and recs are in?
I completed the entire graduate application but was never asked to schedule an interview. Slightly confused here.

Yeah I'm in the exact same position. I called the admissions office and they said that all we have to do is sign into the grad school app and indicate the campus we want to interview at to get a formal invitation. The papers have nothing to do with getting a scheduling invite email. And I'm not sure if we personally can schedule our own times because I see on the app that it says they will remind us 2-4 weeks before our interview date.

My first rejection! Submitted on the first day. I guess I should have expected it being OOS with average stats. Anyways, good luck to everyone else!

Rejected today. My first rejection. Good thing I got one II or I'd be freaking out.

You don't get to schedule it. Just list a campus preference on the application portal, which is different than the application itself (confusing), and then they tell you which random Wednesday your interview is and where it is at least 2 weeks in advance.

Yikes, 2 weeks notice isn't much at all 😕 But on another subject, II! OOS Lizzy M ~71-73

That's awesome. I still haven't been rejected but who knows what will happen!

Did anyone else get an error when trying to enter their 2015 MCAT Scores on the IUPUI application portal?

Got my II today 8/12. IS, cGPA 3.53 sGPA a little higher. MCAT 518.

Good luck guys.

Per above posts, just leave it blank.

I was just thinking the same thing!! My work requires me to request days off a month in advance. Oh wells. No complaints.

2 weeks is the minimum. Usually they let you know 3-4 weeks in advance.

I just received a notification for a Rural Track Program. I was hoping it would be my first II.. what a letdown.

I got my II last Friday, but it seems my letters haven't been processed. There is no green checkmark on the IUSM application portal. Anyone else still not have their letters processed?

Mine aren't either! They do everything manually, and it takes forever, so I'm not too concerned about it yet 🙂
