Does anyone know if Shreveport has started pulling any applicants off of the acceptable list? I interviewed early January and heard they start pulling off of it in late March. I also heard that they are finished interviewing (from an unreliable source). Does anyone know if that is true?

I think I was told they interview through April but I'm not positive and they technically can pull people off anytime but I'd not expect any until late April or after the April 30th drop date like last year.

Edit: Holy run-on sentence batman..

Hey guys, I was hoping someone that completed the one year masters at MC could give me an honest estimation on how challenging the course load actually was. Mostly wanting some anecdotes about your personal experiences and thoughts on the program in general.

With a 3.56 GPA and solid upward trend with a 31 MCAT, I still may be asked to attend the 1 year program by Dr. Kennedy. Hopefully not, but of course I am willing to do what is necessary to gain admission.

I graduated from MC a year ago. I started a semester after a friend of mine and I asked her what to expect. Just like people will tell you about medical school, she told me it was like trying to drink water out of a fire hose. She also told me that I hadn't experienced anything that would give me a decent understanding of that difficulty level. I, like quite a few other people just starting at MC, thought I would have a handle on it. I took two 5-hour (med school level) courses my first semester. I wound up one point above an F in one class and a high D in the other. Fortunately, the classes are weighted so that the first test grades won't make it impossible to get at least a B or B+.

After that first round of tests, I went from studying a couple hours a day to an average of 25-30 hours a week, not including class time or TA sessions (which wound up making it 50-60 hours a week of academics). I think the reason that the two LSU schools like MC so much is that it gives you a chance to prove to them that you're willing to eat, sleep, and breathe your coursework.

I stayed at MC for three semesters plus a summer semester because I wanted to take more than the required number of 5-hour classes. In those three semesters, I noticed that 5-hour classes tend to finish with half the number of students that it started with. A lot of people drop classes. A lot of people don't commit themselves to succeeding at that level. A lot of people figure out that medical school is not for them.

I know this is a pretty long response, and it only represents my opinion. I just wanted to do my best to explain that the Medical Sciences program at MC is a beast of a program. I also wanted to get across that there really isn't a good way to describe just how difficult it is. I will also point out that quite a few graduates from that program are eventually accepted to LSUHSC-S. I wouldn't trade my time there for anything in the world. I met a lot of fantastic people there and I really think MC had a lot to do with getting in this year. Hope that helps some!

I'm at MC right now. I started in the fall and will finish in June. I'm not an overly smart person but work hard and the program here will reflect how hard of a worker you are, not your MCAT score. It is a very good program to do before medical school and will help you get through your first two years of medical school with a lot less stress from what I hear. People older than me that went here, and are now in medical school, tell me that MC is honestly harder than medical school, due to the medical school level classes having comprehensive tests and the how in depth the courses go. I took two medical school level classes and biochemistry my first semester and it was very miserable. I finished with a 3.89 that semester, so it is doable. If you end up coming, just treat it like you're in medical school. I recommend the program.

Has anyone heard of anyone getting off of the acceptable list yet?

Nope, waiting feverishly for that April 30th drop date!

Are any of you on the waiting list in/graduated from graduate school? Or coming out of undergraduate?

Any word on what LSU thinks is a competitive mcat for the new version? i know this year will probably be an exception since there is still a learning curve. Just haven't heard many people mention it.

When I met with both deans, they said they consider 60th percentile competitive and that they don't put a whole lot of weight in the psychology/sociology section.

Recently got word from a medical student that Shreveport has completed their interviews for the cycle. Congrats to those lucky enough to receive, and for those that haven't, like myself, just keep pushing.

Source: Current medical student that volunteers to give tours for the interviewees received an email stating that volunteers are no longer needed and that there will be no further interviews this year.

Hello all! Congratulations on the acceptances!

I'm glad I found this thread online, I need some help! I had to reschedule my MCAT due to some personal issues and wont be applying as early into the cycle as I planned. Could someone direct me to or tell me about the questions/prompts on LSU's secondaries or something similar? As stupid as it is, I'm most likely going to be tight time with my application and I wanted to brainstorm some general ideas of what my responses should include when the time comes to write them.. That way I'm not stuck between a rock and an even harder place.

I'll practically only be applying to NO and Shreveport this cycle since my application wont be complete to be competitive out of state.

Thank you!

You can go to the medical school admissions website and just search "secondary" and the link to the application will appear one of the links. So you could actually print it out and have it done now. Also, you don't have to have your MCAT score back in order to apply. You can send in your application and get AMCAS "verified" and then your scores will automatically go to the school when AAMC posts them.

If you're trying to apply this cycle in order to matriculate fall of this year, you are too late.

I believe I saw that link last night. When I tried to open it, it was a broken link. Ill look around a little more, thank you!

Not this cycle! I'd hate to be that uninformed haha. I wanted to take the MCAT in May to apply for 2017, but that didn't work out. I'm going to have to take it during the summer.

Any advice on when the latest date I should take it is? The MCAT score deadline on the website is December 15 ,but I don't want to be too late for the party. Non early decision interviews are October through March, according to the website. I don't want to hurt myself by having my MCAT score posted in September.. Or, is that not an issue? I've been reading that having scores come in that late is too risky, but I know all schools aren't the same. I'm not sure how Dr. Kennedy does things.

I could take the MCAT earlier, but I wanted to do my best on it the first time around since most of of the scores I've heard about recently aren't appealing (LA students/friends, all but a few scoring <502).

Again, congratulations to all of you guys! You deserve it!

I took the new mcat in September and didn't get it posted until October and I was told that was late (I had a previous old mcat score that I applied with before posting my new one).

Edit: I feel like getting in by the end of August should be fine right? Others can comment if they disagree. Just my 2 cents

August would be fine! Unless, you are waiting on a review committee to write a letter and the review committee needs the MCAT score. That would be too late as it would take some time for them to write the letter. But if the MCAT is the last component of your application to be sent in and you did that in mid to late August, I would think that would be fine. I was complete in late August and I came out of the process alright!

That MCAT score deadline of December 15 is typically going to apply to students who already have an MCAT on file, but are retaking to try to improve their score. If this is your first MCAT, waiting until December to have your score in is lethal.

Get your application complete by mid to late august and you will be fine! Good luck! 🙂

Anyone not receive an update letter this week?

I decided to just call the school and ask. Twice, I asked if it was a bad idea for my application or too late for me to have my exam score in by October. Mrs. Hill said that as long as the official score is in before the deadline, it was okay. I hope that's the case! I'm signing up for a later summer date, unless you guys have any objections! Double full-time credit hours with upper level classes really made me stress out about not being prepped 100% by exam day. This is a relief.

Hey y'all
So, I have gotten into LSU-NO and that's where I really wanted to go anyway. Is there a special protocol for taking yourself off the Acceptable list here? Do I just email admissions and say that I would like to be removed?

Yes, you just send them a professional email thanking them but letting them know you have committed to another school and are relinquishing your spot at Shreveports wait list.

They changed it to April 30th last year for whatever reason. It's the same this year according to their website

April 30th is coming in hot. Anybody heard of anyone getting off of the acceptable list already?

Wow. No I didn't. That may be a good sign for you.

Accepted off of Acceptable list. Letter dated April 18 and postmarked April 22. I am completing my degree out of state.

I will be withdrawing my acceptance. I hope one of you gets it.

Not here

So I'm guessing the schools will have meetings this week to fill spots since double hold was yesterday?

That's the plan. Based off last year, I'd expect some people being accepted at the end of the week/ beginning of next.
