2015-2016 Mercer University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just heard from a buddy who got an email invite for the wait list this morning, so be on the lookout. I'm staying hopeful - good luck everyone!

Waitlisted, got the email this morning. Hopefully there is a lot of movement on the alternate list.

Wait listed at 857. Just provided a time to see if the email truly goes out at the same time. Good luck to us all!

notified of WL this morning as well--I guess I'm glad it wasn't an outright rejection...!

hooray for more waiting lol.. what is the general consensus about the WL and when we will see movement?

thanks everybody and good luck! :xf::luck:

The general consensus is that waitlist movement at Mercer is pretty high so congrats! Generally, it starts May 1st and is heavy through May. I've seen some people get accepted late April at other schools in the past, but I don't know about at Mercer. In theory, it could happen, but I would think early to mid-May would be the most movement. Good luck!!

Great news with the wait list notifications, everyone. Anyone notice a change in the seondary app portal - maybe a "wait/alternate list" tab? I don't see one, but I think in years past they talked about this kind of thing. Just want to make sure I'm not missing out, as I accepted the invite this morning.

Also, are any of you guys preparing to take the MCAT again? I've yet to take the new-style MCAT and didn't think I'd need to take the MCAT again as I did well-enough for Mercer (29), but I recently learned that to apply in the 2016-2017 cycle, all applicants must have taken the new MCAT at least once.

I was also wait listed and accepted to be on it this morning. I do not see a tab in my portal either.

Do you think there is any "importance" in the order in which you received the waitlist request.

Thanks ugagrad1116! I've seen your posts quite often throughout this thread--thanks for being so generous w your encouragement of others, and knowledge of the application cycle process! I hope you get what you are wishing for this cycle 🙂

Does anyone know how many have been accepted off the WL in previous years? I'm just trying to gauge how good it's looking if I'm on the waitlist..

has anyone on the WL already sent a letter of interest/update of activities?

I wouldn't worry about the tab not being there until they are finished sending out the waitlists. As far as the MCAT, NOPE. NEVER. AGAIN. lol. But in all seriousness, I've already taken the MCAT2015. In your position, you have 2 options. Start prepping now, and try taking the test in June (but you may be accepted in May, thus you wasted 2 months). Or wait until mid-May, if you aren't accepted, then prep and take the test in August. First option is better, but more risky in that you may be accepted after you've prepped. But you could always use the prepping as a "warm up" for med school, making the first option more appealing.

No problem! I hated not knowing anything about the cycle last year so I'm just trying to let you guys know what I hear so maybe it makes the process a little more bearable. Thank you! I hope you do as well!

Proud of you guys for staying positive, I know it MEGA sucks to wait, but a giant chunk of my class came off the waitlist. Moreover, don't forget what a huge deal it is just to make it this far, you're already an elite bunch and should be proud of your accomplishments. Just keep in the back of your minds (if it comes to it) that a solid majority of people who are "serious applicants" get into medical school in general eventually. I believe in all of you.

I didn't get a waitlist invitation today. Does it mean I'm silently rejected?

Edit: Just read the post above. They will be sending out emails until tomorrow.

Still no wait list invitation or rejection email. Do they silently reject people?

Last year, I got an email when I was rejected post-interview. They might have changed that this year though. But I haven't asked the office so I don't know. I'm sure you could call, and they would tell you. They're very willing to help when you ask them questions.

Edit: I just looked at my email from last year. I got the email on March 17th so it was after the March 15th AMCAS deadline.

To those of you who accepted a spot on the alternate list, did you receive some kind of confirmation email or notification from the school? All I got was a "thank you response" from the person who sent out the invitation, and haven't heard anything since.

for the waitlist, do they contact the next person on the alternate list as spots open, or do they confer about open spots at committee meetings prior to sending out invites? just trying to figure out if individuals will find out at different times, or if invitations to join the class from the alternate list will happen in small spurts.

Based on the past, it happens in small spurts, beginning April 30 when students decide on one school. At that point, the waitlist starts to move, and continues to move all the way through August. Though Mercer recommends if you haven't been accepted by Mid-May, go ahead and prepare for the next cycle.

I do not believe that I have received a waitlist email. Does this mean that I have been denied?

Possibly. Though I would call to confirm that they've sent out all waitlist invites. Last year they waitlisted 150, while 73 were accepted. If you haven't been invited to be on the list, and they are done sending them out, I'd prepare for the next cycle assuming you haven't been accepted elsewhere.

Are you sure that 73 people were accepted off the wait list last year? I heard it's about 40 people that get off the wait list...

MSAR shows 73 accepted out of 150. Unfortunately, data doesn't exist for MCG. 40 people may refer to those who matriculate from the waitlist, so 33 were probably accepted and denied the offer.

I got rejected today at about 3pm est. Interviewed in October. Good luck to everyone.

Yep I got denied around 3 pm today...a couple hours after I left a voicemail with Ms. Spear. Oddly, I was wait-listed last year but denied this year. I have improved almost every aspect of my application since last round. I also got an earlier interview date this year, so I thought things were looking better. I will reapply if I don't get accepted elsewhere this round....The only thing I can think of is that my first interviewer asked about hardships during my pursuit of medicine which brought up some family drama, and opinions vary on how to properly handle family situations. I was also trying to pitch myself as a fit in their program, but my interviewer seemed to want to primarily talk about his life story. I didn't want to just sit there without him getting to know me back, so I tried to segue things he was saying into my own story....Maybe I didn't show enough interest in his story as he would have liked. Those are the only things I can think of that might have hurt me this round. Good luck to remaining candidates!

I guess they aren't going with the "waitlist" tab this year. Unless someone else has one?

Anyone else going to the application improvement meeting on April 9?
