2015-2016 Rush Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm a bit confused. So does that mean if a student has at least 150 hours of community service and 150 hours of clinical experiences (assuming the GPA and MCAT is good enough), he or she will def get an interview??
I don't think so. It's just another requirement in addition to min GPA and MCAT. I don't think meeting the requirements guarantees an interview.

How long do we have to accept?..

Been complete since August 9, is it a good sign that I haven't been rejected at least? Or maybe they just haven't gotten to me yet to drop the hammer on my application

@WildPants It looks like they're just rejecting the people who didn't meet the service/GPA requirements, meaning their applications were never even seen by a human. So I would not necessarily say that not being rejected yet is a good sign, it just means you met the minimum requirements.

Anyone know the date of the second look day and if youre able to bring guests?

Rejected this morning. Good luck to everyone in the running still!

Also rejected, and for those asking: I did have the GPA/service requirements (GPA > 3.5 and service + healthcare > 500 hrs). Oh well, guess it wasn't meant to be, Rush. Good luck to everyone still in the running!!

Wow! This process is so unpredictable. Good luck with your other applications.

Keep in mind they have a cutoff for the MCAT as well. Did you guys meet that? 🙁

Damn, I don't feel so bad for getting the axe then, a lot of qualified people getting denied here.

What is their MCAT min?
It's a 27 and Rush judges by averaging scores if you've taken the MCAT multiple times. For example, I got a 26 on my first try and a 30 on my second one so Rush would consider it to be a 28.

Rejected today as well! But congratulations to everyone who has been or will be considered for this awesome school! Chicago is great! 👍

For those who have heard back, would you mind sharing when you were complete?

Got the rejection email right as I sat down for my toughest final exam lol. Brutal timing.

oh dang, so sorry man, guess this was a large batch of rejections they sent out. sigh bracing myself for others.

they could've waited until after christmas though...

Just rejected as well. They aren't sending all the rejections at once either, so I thought I escaped the ax -_-

Huh, rejected today. 3.5 GPA, 523 MCAT, ~750 hours community service. Interesting.

I'll add my name to the rejected list this am, complete Sept. 4. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Getting an II elsewhere this morning does soften the blow. GL to everyone else!

Also adding name to the rejection list. Good luck all

+1 on the rejection today and meeting the requirements.

Pre II rejection as well. Got the same generic email. OOS, I meet all of their requirements. Weird. But I guess lots of people in my same shoes. Complete early November.

Yikes I haven't received anything yet, but I'm sure it's coming! I do believe I meet all of the requirements....very stringent though. If they're gonna reject so many people who have them I feel like it should be more of a suggestion than hard requirement, and instead just select people that they believe reflects their mission and values.

Are they still sending out interview invites?

Have been complete since mid july and haven't heard a peep other than when they erroneously sent me an email in September telling me to complete my application (I already had). Was expecting this school to be a silent rejection, but now with these past few days of rejections going out, i don't know what to think. This is yet another school of mine that has sent out massive waves of rejections, sparing me, but also not giving me any II. How unpredictable!

Same. Are you an Illinois resident? Rush has a strong IS preference

+1 for in state, marginally acceptable service hours. Hopefully I made up for that some other way.

Oh does it? I'm not IS, but i thought i didn't apply to any schools with IS preference, other than my own state. But my MSAR subscription expired, so i can't verify myself. Just interested what it means to be this late in the game, having applied so early, yet still avoiding some of these mass rejection slaughters. All any of us can do is some pretty blind conjecture. Or just try to ignore it until we get the final decision. Both seem unsatisfying.

I think Rush interviews 50% IS and 50% OOS. They have definitely passed up on our application but looking at last year's thread, a lot of people got invites after New Year's so I think we're still in the running!

Alyssa encouraged me to send a letter update post interview. When I wanted to check if it was added to my file, the person receiving the call told me they don't accept updates.

Wut????????!!!!!! 🙁?

That's unfortunate. Did you specify it was a post-interview update? Is there any way you can e-mail it to them? I would try e-mailing it, telling them that you are updating them post-interview and that Alyssa encouraged it.

Rejected yesterday. 3.8 GPA, 510 MCAT, 500 community service hours and 2,500 health care hours. I just got the generic email Bummer

Thanks. Yeah I did that, but they tend to be a bit slow on the response time. Must be getting a flood of emails.
