2015-2016 Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Due to an administrative error on someone else's part it's not a possibility this year. I was 2 months early with my paperwork but it was submitted 8 days late...

Am I understanding correctly that due to someone else's error, you won't be able to go to med school after having been accepted???

So I submitted my application a little over a month ago and just got an II. Are all the spots pretty much filled up? I actually really wanted to do the Public Health branch (I have pretty large research background so the NIAID opportunity is extraordinary appealing to me), but I assume since they're only two spots that those are filled...?

@Glycereine =-( I'm sorry bud! I hope to see you out in the fleet whenever I make it back... Out of curiosity though, where were you stationed? I was in GTMO late 2008-mid 2010 and Oak Harbor, WA from 2010 to july 2012. (HM2). Wondering if we've ever met?

Thanks and congrats! I was in Oak Harbor from 2005-8, Kaneohe Bay from 8-11, Guam from 11-14, and now San Diego so it looks like we wouldn't have crossed paths though.

i think everyone thinks this is not acceptable! you should try to fix this because we don't accept!

Well here's to hoping for some news next week...

Haha I appreciate it but this late in the cycle not even having an interview invite, I had to face reality.

Sorry to hear the news buddy! You have been such a huge help to everyone on this thread. Life has a funny way of working things out and you will end up where you are supposed to be!

I have just withdrawn my application for this year. I hope to apply again in a future cycle, but realistically do not know if it is possible. It is a decision I had to make (with a very heavy heart) in order to continue my military career. The uncertainty at this point in the cycle was forcing my current officer community into a corner with respect to my next assignment, and continuing to wait would have jeopardized not only my current career but also the ability to apply in a future year (since I require approval from my community to do so).

I wish everyone the best of luck and will still be around if anyone has questions about the military in general, or Navy specifically.

Congratulations to those who have been accepted, and I hope to see some of you in the fleet in the future.

Best wishes to all

Sorry to hear that, I hope everything works out for the better in the future. You have been and are an invaluable asset to this group.

I interviewed 10/29 and am thinking that my groups files must have not gone to final review yet because I haven't heard about anything (acceptance, waitlist, hold, rejection)
I interviewed at USUHS November 5th and asked LTC Saguil about the timeline mid-November since I still need to submit my release from my branch. He said my interview date was 5-6 weeks away from review which means your interview date should be reviewed this week or next at latest. (If the same timeline applies!)

Completely unacceptable if you ask me. Especially due to the amount of money, time, and effort put into the process. I would ask to talk with the Dean about the circumstances. If they liked you enough to give you a spot then they should at least willing to fight for you a little bit!

The school is extremely helpful, the issue was on the military side.

For some context from last year, I interviewed October 23rd and was waitlisted on January 14th (that's 82 days later for those counting). The cycles aren't the same but don't be stressed out if your wait ends up being a little longer than advertised. I know of two people in my interview group that were eventually accepted. One was waitlisted at the same time as me and the other was waitlisted about 2 weeks prior.

I noticed the same thing....our luck. Hoping we hear something soon. Waitlist is our best option now!

I doubt it filled much faster than before. What you're noticing is probably due to the population of people posting on the thread this year. When I interviewed on 11/5, my interviewer told me that they had given 70 acceptances at that point. If you extrapolate that out, they should have given ~140 acceptances by now. I wouldn't be freaking out too much yet

Anyone know what day of the week they typically make calls/send out WL notifications?

Seems like calls usually go out on Wednesdays. WL notifications? I don't know, but when you receive it probably depends on where you live, since it's by mail.

Well, I got a letter from USUHS today. Hold status, I'm pretty bummed but at least it wasn't a complete rejection. It was dated 12/7, I interviewed 10/22

I still haven't heard anything at all from interviewing mid October. Hopefully I hear something soon

Received USUHS status update email sent to those who are placed on the primary waitlist. Interviewed 10/22. Have yet to receive waitlist letter.

It basically described the waitlist process, how it is merit-based, and that update letters are always welcome.
The email doesn't address which dates the waitlisted applicants interviewed, so it is completely possible that you may be on the waitlist. I'm not sure if there have been previous email updates or not. Last cycle, I received the status update email in early February, one month after I received the waitlist letter. Don't count yourself out yet. There is plenty of time in this cycle yet to hear any news.

how often do they outright reject post interview?

edit: sorry guys, its just that when you have been waiting 3 seasons, 9 interviews, what could be my 9th waitlist, a 2 year masters, 5 publications, and on top of it you are also single so your uterus is like waiting with you... it's been almost a decade and it's made me only want it that much more. I just want one yes. just one. some of these ppl on SDN have 6 or 7! which is great. I just care about getting one omg!

haha, that's great, I love it.

I feel for you. I'm right there with you at 1 less season, 2 less publications, and 1 less uterus. It's not over yet!

They outright reject anybody with a cat in their avatar on SDN.

keep your chin up, times like these are dark. I know. Took me four tries to finally make it.

That's some serious perseverance there. If I end up going into my 3rd season this May, that's going to be the theme for my essay.

Honestly, I'd just like to know one way or another by January so I'll know if I should pursue a promotion board this summer. I should also be careful what I ask for...

There's a few of us in that limbo, you're not alone. Your attitude is spot on, though. Stay in the fight.
