2015-2016 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also for those waiting for replies back, make sure you are checking your junk folder in your email!!!

Congrats to everyone that has received an II!!!!! You will absolutely enjoy interview day.

And for those that are getting anxious, I would like to say, don't loose hope.

I know of many students in my class that didn't get invited to interview until late as February despite being complete early!
you are a kind and encouraging soul.

So...who else is waiting for that secondary? haha

They review every primary application manually if it does not pass their auto screen.

Also, according to a presentation I saw, their auto screen is based upon more than just metrics.

It could take a while for them to go through 4,000 or more applications manually. No news is not yet bad news.

So I'm working on my secondary, but with only 500 characters, I only have enough room to type out the role and contact's email address. I have 5 things I'm consistently doing throughout this year.

Should I cut out 2-3, even though I said in my primary I'm still doing them. Would that look weird?

I shortened the names of the activities I'm doing and used acronyms for the university lol then I just put the contact's email in parentheses. It gave me more leeway to include more stuff.

I'm still waiting on a secondary at UCLA and UCI. On some of last year's posts, people were getting secondaries in September still.

Congrats on your UCD II. When did you submit your primary app? I know UCLA and UCI took a long time to verify the app.

It takes a little creativity, especially if you wanted to list nearly ten activities like me. I did not including the roles, nor the contact information for activities that already have that information available in the primary. Instead of writing a list, I wrote a summary (albeit semi-list like) that gave them insight into how I spend my time and how I am going to be a stronger applicant with each day that passes. I only listed contact information for a new activity.

Same, only mine was a straight-up list.

When would you say no news = bad news? 🙂

lol apparently. Though I did LOVE this place specifically when I spent time shadowing at the medical center last year. I would be THRILLED to end up at Davis, and Sacramento was a way better fit for me than the Bay area is! Now if only there were any water in this state...

You must be smoking when you said Sac is better than the Bay Area (LOL) but I must admit, Sac grows on you. Would love to be accepted by UCD, my alma mater!

It's cheaper, the roads are in better condition, it's less spread out, and the hospital is easier to get to than most Bay ones!
Mostly, though, I loved the people at the UCD med center and I'm SO PUMPED to be interviewing there!

Congratulations on your interview!! I saw your name and was trying to remember where on SDN I had seen you a lot...I think it was the SN2 MCAT thread? Haha in any case, congrats!

has anyone found a way to sign up for a student host? If not, any cheap hotel recommendations?

I have one other II and that school contacted me directly about the opportunity to stay with a host, so I'm hanging tight waiting on that, for the moment. Hope it happens!

Otherwise, there's always AirBnB.

There is a Marriott right across the street from the school. It might not be the cheap options, but would not have to worry about transportation the morning of and could explore the campus the night/morning before.

Well you do have the Pacific Ocean!
