2015-2016 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats. Here's to hoping that late interviews are not equal to waitlist. I have mine on March 11. Fingers crossed.

Someone (not affiliated with Davis) made a remark that I was interviewing for the wait list. I felt discouraged until I met a random med student at the crosswalk and he told me they would not waste the precious time of their deans, actors, and faculty just to interview for a wait list position. I felt relieved and look how true it was in my case. Have faith!

I interviewed with the second group and didn't get a call or E-mail =\
Does anyone know how long it takes to get a waitlist/rejection E-mail once phone calls have been made? Super bummed out...
@Kylie317 @sonnyb Which group were you in?

I don't think they're done making calls for that day! I was in the morning group.

I was in the afternoon group. Dr. Sousa mentioned that he had just left the committee meeting. Typically, decisions go out on Fridays, so definitely don't lose hope.

Is anyone considering doing the pre-matriculation program? Anyone know much about it?

If you join the Facebook page, there is a conversation with some current students that went through it that was informative. I am considering it.

Anyone still on interview waitlist--thoughts of a final interview invitation?

I contacted them earlier this week and was told they're still pulling off the interview waitlist. I have doubts about how true that is, but still a (very very slim) chance I guess.

This process has transformed me into incredibly patient person. Is that a good enough update to send in? (sarcasm)

Did you guys smile in the photo you had to submit to them in response to your II?

It's been around 2 weeks for the 2/19/16 interviewees. Has anyone gotten a call yet?? 🙂

I interviewed 02/19! I was in the afternoon group 😀
Nice. A huge congratulations to you!!! I interviewed one week after you so I am really hoping to feel like you do by next Friday!! This is absolutely my dream school as well. I know your weekend will be awesome now!!!!

Did you send a post interview thank you letter or a letter of intent (since it was your top choice school)?

I did! I sent a handwritten letter in to the office of admissions and emailed them the same letter. I stated great interest and intent to attend in the letter. I hear however, that they don't look at them. I just thought I should send one in just in case. Lol

I also plan to send one just in case! I was just planning to email it though. Thanks for your response! Maybe it helped! You never know🙂

Yeah! It's true, maybe it helps and maybe it doesn't. Some of the people I've talked to who are students at Davis now didn't send in anything and they were also admitted. So you never know 😀 good luck this week!

Can any current students comment on preparing for a career in academic medicine at Davis? I know it's very primary care focused so I'm curious what resources are there for folks who want to specialize and stay in academia!

Does anyone know if we're allowed to use pen and paper for the MMI?

I don't believe so. We were provided with it at my other MMI but at Davis they didn't give us anything. Maybe it was just because no one asked. Give it a try!

Well, this is great. I logged onto the portal to accept the Rural-PRIME track and discovered that sometime in February they finally added financial aid forms which, for those of us accepted last October, turned out to be due, uhhhh... Last Wednesday.

So, I just sent mine in. Maybe I'm the only person who screwed this up, but then again maybe this will help someone else. It doesn't take long to submit the form. Your parents need to submit one too.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for this post! Would've never thought to check.

Definitely a thing and you will find a support system here if academic medicine is your goal. Getting involved in research early is very doable, and taking a year off to do a research year (via T32 funding, NIH, HHMI) is done by a handful of people every year (seems like it's getting more common, too).

I'm personally interested in a career in academic medicine and don't feel like Davis being a more primary care-focused school is hindering that in any way; finding research opportunities and mentors in the specialty I'm interested in has been a breeze. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Has anyone heard anything from the 2/26 interview group? It's almost the two week mark! I'm going to be glued to my phone on Friday and thinking positive thoughts!!

Interviewed here last Friday and LOVED the school. Can't wait to find out if I was accepted!

I didn't realize that any schools interviewed this late! That is amazing. The admissions office must be either super well staffed or totally tuckered out.

Edit: it is also awesome, in case that wasn't clear already!!
