2015-2016 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am hesitant, but at the same time, I'd like to know if I was rejected or not, particularly since I was verified back in June. I may be wrong, but I feel schools have a responsibility to send a notice of rejection, if that's the case. It would be "the right thing" to do, and that's the sort of field we're entering, right?

I don't know if UCSF is the same way, but I know other UCs often continue sending out secondaries until January. I wouldn't push your luck by emailing them. It is waaaaay too early in the cycle to be losing hope.

A rejection at the end of the cycle is sufficient to uphold professionalism to candidates.

Unless there is an extremely valid reason that you need to know your application status, do not bother admissions offices.

Yeah, I agree, I'd prefer to know whether I was rejected flat out as well. We are also (hopefully) entering a field where there is a fair amount of bureaucracy too.

UCSF is an awesome school, and just about everyone on this thread would love to go there. Sadly, UCSF also is notorious for delaying secondaries all the way through the cycle, so just keep the hopes alive and have it prewritten just in case. But again, writing to the admissions office won't help your cause.

It's only early August. Last year, there were quite a number of people verified prior to secondary transmission to schools who didn't get secondaries until late August or early September, some maybe even later (here's just one example, and I'd check the 2014-2015 thread for more); it sounds like they were advised to wait ~10-12 weeks by admissions staff. So it's way too early to start assuming that you've been silently rejected. Have some faith in yourself and your application!

Also I'm not sure why everyone seems to think you're not told if you're rejected pre-secondary; the first of those rejections reported on last year's thread was in early October. You'll know if you're rejected, once they've had time to evaluate your application.

Good luck!

Verified back in June and still waiting too. It's definitely tough but I guess we just have to hang in there. Hoping we get some positive news soon!

UCSF throwing around some secondary love late tonight. Which I'm okay with. Verified 6/29, IS reapplicant, LizzyM ~77.

For people who submitted the secondary already, what kind of stuff did you write about? I'm very confused about this app.

He has an extremely valid reason. @wearywanderer is already impatient and weary of waiting.

Bruh you gonna have a long suffering year if you can't even hold it in for 2 months

Is it just me or is the secondary tab on the website down for others as well? It keeps giving me a "500 error"

EDIT: The error went away once I used chrome as opposed to safari. Just an FYI for others

It did the same for me, but on the research experience page (Chrome). I restarted my computer and it worked!

Q: Is today the day?!?!?!? The day I finally get a secondary?!?!

A: No, no it is not. Especially since I was only verified 13 days ago.

I should really focus on all the secondaries I already have and haven't even touched (UCSD), but I want what I don't have yet!!! (Same goes to you too UCLA)

FINALLY got a secondary an hour ago. Verified 6/17. Those of you still waiting, don't lose hope!

Received the last of my secondaries tonight from UCSF! Verified 6/24, IS with LizzyM ~69.

For the Additional Information essay, is it OK for me to write a fourth Most Meaningful essay, and then add a short description of two new activities I was involved in this summer?

That's essentially what I did. I talked about one activity that I hadn't before, one that I had but wanted to expand on, and then an update of my current activities.

Okay, now I'm mad at myself. I'm LizzyM 68.5 and OOS (originally from NorCal though) and naturally assumed they just send secondaries to everyone. Decided to keep my mouth shut for the optional essay prompt.

Now I realize this is like when the prom queen walks up to you on the dance floor and you pretend to be super interested in your cup of punch. I love you, UCSF! I think you're the prettiest girl in the world and always have!!

It seems like a lot of people do not write additional information, so I wouldn't worry @pageantry .

I took the space to expand on certain aspects of my activities and how they inform my desired career path. I kept it pretty succinct.

Thanks, @wagonwheel23. I won't hold my breath because I have no idea why they gave someone with my stats a chance at all (I'm not URM or military). Maybe it was that time I was elected school president on the strength of my sweet dance moves.

Does anyone know if the JMD (MS+MD) program is more competitive than the regular MD? And is there ample opportunity it opt into the JMD program if accepted for MD? I'm afraid it would hurt my chances to apply JMD because my research experience is not extensive, but I am very interested in it.

Secondary today. Verified 6/26. OOS LizzyM ~70
2100+ hours of research, future second author pub and maybe more 3rd author papers on the way

Happy Friday everyone!

Finally decided to give it a shot. Non traditional applicant, ESL, average stats, had advanced degree, years of research experiences and publications. Hope to get secondary invitation🙂

Has anyone verified July 2 or later received a secondary?

edit: got one last night!

It's kind of surprising to see so many people getting secondaries here. Maybe they're easing up on the screening?

No secondary yet. IS verified 7/14. LizzyM - 74. Wonder if it is because I am reapplicant.
+1 here as well. I'm sure if you received a secondary last time around that you will again.

For reference, I was verified 6/23 and did not receive my secondary until 8/7
