2015-2016 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Called the school today! They estimated that about 4-5000 secondaries were given out this year, which compares to about 1500 in the past. Also, they're interviewing through mid-March. After secondaries, each application goes through two more screens -- letter of rec are extremely important at this point -- before being selected for interview.

The same number of applicants are being interviewed, so that's about 4-500. If you've submitted a secondary, you now have a roughly 9-10% chance of interviewing, compared to 25-35% before.

Crazy. I'm guessing the school is in need of more $$$ after budget cuts from the California govt.

4000-5000 secondaries? I wonder how many applications they received this cycle.

Only 4-500 interviews?! How many do they accept?
I was stoked about getting an II before, but appreciate it much more now

4-5k secondaries? Wow. Well, I feel pretty thankful for that since I was able to apply to JMP! I interviewed last month and enjoyed it. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you are the right type of student then you will be in heaven.

So did it sound like they're done giving out secondaries then?

Rejected post-secondary just now. LizzyM ~73. Good luck to everyone else still in the running 🙂
(and it was indeed a thoughtful rejection letter!)

can i ask when you guys were complete and if you applied to JMP and/or PRIME?

Hi! Does UCSF accept pre-interview updates? Also, if I turned in my secondary last week, do you think it is too early to send an update? I've had the update for a while, but there wasn't really somewhere appropriate to write it on the secondary. Thanks!!

Yeah literally UCSF is one of the few ones with the secondary devoted to an update haha

Really? There is an essay for the express purpose of providing updates and other information- "If you wish to update or expand upon your activities, you may provide additional information below."

I interpreted that as one of the activities I listed in my primary... but you're completely right. My bad!

I would still like to second this question! I submitted my secondary Aug 20 and have some updates to share - does UCSF accept pre-interview updates?

if memory serves me right, somewhere on the website it says they do not accept pre-interview updates, but I could be wrong. You could call and ask!

Rejected post-secondary. Mega reach school, but still kinda sad. Oh well!

just got secondary (applied day before deadline)

Finally got the axe! Took much longer than I expected. Nice rejection letter though

OOS, ORM, Lizzy 70-something, complete somewhere in July.

Primary in 8/20, LORs in 10/15, still hoping (?) for secondary...
Anyone else waiting on secondary, and if so, when did you submit? Just curiosity more than anything else at this point.

Yes - hoping for secondary desperately.. probably at the very top of my list of places.
AMCAS verified 8/13
MCAT score & UCSF added on 8/18

Rejected yesterday, OOS, complete 7/31. It was a long shot. Good luck to the rest of you still in the running!

Rejected today... Goodbye San Francisco. Good luck to everyone else!

Me too! AMCAS verified 08/06 but my MCAT score didn't post until 08/18. I didn't receive secondaries from UCI or UCLA either.

Anyone know anything about ITA emails here? I'm flying cross-country and this is the only other CA school I'm applying to. Honestly I wouldn't come back just for UCSF if I had to do it separately. But I was complete rather late in early October, looking to interview mid-Jan. Should I bother?

Secondary invitation today at 6:00pm PST! I'm going to omit all the exclamation points that I'm feeling inside right meow :cat:
(primary submitted 8/28, verified 9/11 — hella late oy)

From what I remember, they don't take into consideration ITA emails.
