2015-2016 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just curious - several posters have stated that next Friday is the first interview date; where did that information come from?
Some of the above posters appear to be current med students at Colorado, so that's probably how they know

Congratulations! When did you hear? Would you mind sharing stats/complete dates?

Last year they sent out a big batch of IIs like exactly one week before the first interview day

Wow 1 week...Do most of the first interviews go to IS students? I feel like flying across the country with only a week's notice would be very expensive.

Yes. The first week is almost entirely people in the area. I was in the second week because I am IS but went to school on the other side of the country. So I got about 2 weeks notice.

I know the fee processing here is a little jumbled, but has anyone with an AMCAS fee waiver been put through without issue? No where in the emails or on their secondary do they mention the fee waiver. So far my application hasn't been processed. Thanks!

I didn't get an email, but found my status changed accordingly about three / four days later saying they had my payment and it's going into the review pile.

Just submit and they'll do the rest. Don't pay!

Does any current student have any opinion for an OOS applying here? Only 1 student from my state matriculated here and my stats are right on the average for Colorado. I do not have any specific ties to Colorado, I did attend a world finals competition at the Boulder campus in sixth grade......

Should I apply? Do I have a chance? I love the state Colorado in terms of climate and my interest in the actual institution is for its research. Do most OOSers have significant ties to the state?

I would say that the majority of OOS do not have significant ties to the state. To my knowledge, there is no litmus test for OOS applicants at all as long as you're "in the range". If you're very interested in the research opportunities here you should definitely talk that up in your application, and the more specific you can be, the more you'll stand out. I've been involved in research since early in my first year, so if you want more info I'd be happy to tell you what I know.

Best of luck!

Out of State interview invite!!!!! Wasn't expecting to get one so fast! Very excited as this is one of my top medical school choices. I really like how the school has different "tracks". I consider myself a bit of a mountain man which is why Colorado has drawn me to it. Did some camping and hiking here a few years back and loved it (and can see myself living here to take year round advantage of it in the future). One downside is they don't give you a few interview days to choose from..... which doesn't' work out terribly well with my current schedule. I've never heard from anyone that applying to medical school is at all convenient!

II OOS too!

Has anyone requested a new date? Do you know if the other options show up on the portal or if they just assign you another date?

Congrats man. Mind sharing your stats? As a fellow mountain man, I really want to go here so any info would be appreciated.

Would you guys mind sharing stats/submission/complete date? Thanks, and congrats!

I kinda want to request a new date as I have another interview the following day (and two within the week before it) and would like to spend some time in the area getting to know it better. Do you think it will lessen our chances of admission if we request a new date? I was very impressed with the school from the research I've done so far and don't want them in any way to feel I don't love them.... gsiegel14, I don't want to reveal my identity through saying too much about myself.... but whatever. My LizzyM score is 72. I would love to go to school with fellow outdoor enthusiasts so good luck to you!!!

Congrats!! I'm hoping for an OOS invite as well so I can return back to Colorado 🙂. Just so you know, the campus is no where near mountains. You will be shocked by how flat and brown everything is near the campus, but it's nice to only be a couple hours from some of the greatest trails and skiing/snowboarding in the country.

Yeah.... I'm sure it still beats Nebraska and North Dakota (which is where I'll be applying next year if I fail miserably at interviewing this year).

I highly doubt asking for a different interview date will have an impact on your admissions. If the committee wants you to attend, they'll admit you regardless of when you interview. Best of luck!

Will CU send out rejection emails if you're not offered an interview?

Congratulations!! Do you mind if I ask about your stats and complete dates?

I submitted my secondary on 8/12, but for some reason my "payment" wasn't received until 8/24. I have FAP but if I remember correctly CU needed to verify this differently than some other schools.

Average stats, LizzyM 71-73. Honestly, I think they invited me because I am interested in primary care.

yeah, but not til late. I applied last year (IS but super stretch for my numbers) and didn't get a rejection til maybe March.

Congrats! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Are you by any chance in either the CO-UNITE or LEADS tracks? I am interested in both but it appears there is some thematic overlap between them so a current student's perspective would be really helpful.

I am in CU-UNITE. It has quite a few similarities with LEADS and Global Health. From what I can understand, CU-UNITE is based more in the community and direct service while LEADS focuses a lot on policy. I can say we have a lot of immersion opportunities and have the opportunity to go to Costa Rica next summer so it certainly is exciting! I have my first class on it next week and can say more then.

Thanks!! How have you been liking the Springs branch so far?
I actually don't do anything with that until third year. But the scholarship they give us certainly is nice!

Does anyone know when the first MSTP invites were sent out? All of the MSTP interview dates are in December, January, and February, so I'm wondering if they hold invites until like, November.

Last year they came out on 9/26. So... who knows? Probably not November.

Could you please elaborate on the scholarship? Is that for all who are a part of the Springs branch?

Anyone have any luck thus far with trying to request a different date for your interview?

Yeah. I just clicked the reschedule button online then they called me 2 days later and told me the other available dates and let me choose.

NOICE thank you!! 🙂

Thus far every Springs student gets a 5k a year scholarship but future years and future classes may or may not depending on available funding.

Are there any IS applicants who were complete around the end of August/beginning of September (due to the long time it took them to process app fee) who have received an II?

I wasn't complete until late August and just got an II yesterday. There is hope!

I got an email. =) They were very prompt with it. I didn't notice a status change in my portal when I checked it only a few hours before the email itself, so I'd think it's an email-only system.

OOS II just now!

They emailed me a specific date, does anyone know what will happen if I click the reschedule button?

Will it show me other dates (and save mine) or just submit a change request? If it is the latter, I don't want to click it. 🙂

Thanks!
