2015-2016 University of Connecticut Application Thread

I submitted my secondary on monday, and my portal still says that I haven't submitted my secondary. I got an email confirmation though. Did you have the same issue? Should I wait, or call them on monday?

I'm not sure; I believe my portal updated to "secondary complete" when I got the email confirmation, but I am not sure. It wouldn't surprise me if it takes longer for their website to update now that it's a busier part of the season. I would imagine you are fine considering you got the email - you could always check on the portal in a few days. Calling only takes a few minutes though, if it is worrying you, but don't come off as neurotic to their admissions office.

True. Thanks a lot! Good luck at your interview!

Applied regular but wondering if I can change to ED? Has anyone applied ED?

I talked to Dr. Wrensford about ED and he said that you shouldn't consider applying for it unless your application is the best of the best.

"ED"?

Edit: Nevermind, was thinking you meant some kind of special degree, lol.

So do they scrutinize your application even more? Jeeez 😱 Would you happen to know the details about Early Decision? How many have applied Early Decision and the % accepted. None of that info is present on MSAR.

I don't have any of that information, although when a classmate really pressured him about it he made it clear that he felt applying early decision was a bad idea in almost all cases. I believe he flat out said "don't apply early decision"

Just to shed some light on this, I know some people who had conversations with the dean of admissions of the med school about this, and what he said is that they will only accept you ED if you would fall "within their top 85 choices for their medical class." Also UConn is rolling admissions so if you apply early enough you should hear back almost as early or even as early as ED applicants, so unless you can't afford to apply to other schools, ED is not a great choice from what I understand.

anyone having this issue: I submitted the secondary and paid the fee. I got email confirmations for both. but when I log back into the secondary portal it tell me that I haven't submitted my secondary, and also gives me the option to start my application again. I submitted about a week ago, and my LORs were sent in around the same time.

Does it say anything about lag time for updates on the website? I'm thinking it may be taking a while to update, because the season is picking up. If not, I don't think it's unreasonable to call and ask.

Anyone applying with 2015 MCAT scores?

I am applying with the new MCAT, scored a 515 (93rd percentile), and UGPA of 3.6. I went to UConn for undergrad so hoping to hit the jackpot on this one! I have been at application complete stage since 7/24, but my MCAT score just came in a few days ago, so patiently waiting.

Sounds like you've got a great shot. They love UCONN undergrads

No they don't. I applied last year, complete in July, and they were silent with any response all application cycle. It seemed as if they misplaced or didn't even bother reading my application. I kept calling back and they said my app was still under review. I really pestered them toward the end and they said they'll "talk to the dean." A day later they just sent a rejection email... this past June... one year after applying. I mean it's one thing getting a rejection but not hearing anything for that long, there has to be something sketchy going on.

I don't been to sound like a complainer but it bothers me when I pay a secondary fee and don't hear from a school at all until the NEXT application cycle.. that too happening after I pestered them. I know this is true for many other applicants who are both UCONN undergrads and nonUCONN undergrads.

Wow, that's awful. So, would you recommend calling them earlier in the cycle just to make sure everything is okay with the app?

What happened to you is awful. Maybe I was exaggerating when I say that they LOVE uconn undergrads, but I do feel like they give you guys special attention. I once toured the school with a busload of uconn undergrads and met Dr. Zeff, and he talked about how the school of medicine has a great relationship with uconn storrs and how they consider themselves very much a part of the uconn family. This was right after the men and woman took home the trophy so maybe he was riding high on husky pride. Its all anecdotal, but i left that day thinking to myself "damnit I should have gone to uconn"

Haha I had a great undergraduate experience at UCONN Storrs. It is honestly a good school.

Lack of communication? Because no II or for another reason? It's still early in the cycle.

I find that they send fewer e-mails to update applicants than other schools I am applying to, and the website to check your status is also very basic, and doesn't have as much information as others.

They tend to finish the cycle pretty early though, the adcom meets once a week on Tuesdays or something like that-way more often than most others.

Hi all, just wondering if UConn sends a "your file is complete" email? I haven't gotten anything from them and when I check their online portal, it only says seondary submitted and complete. Just wondering, thanks!

I got a confirmation after submitting secondary. Two actually, one for submitting and a confirmation of payment

They do not

Just had the interview last week! It is great, very relaxed. All of us interviewing also went through a "mock team-based learning" exercise.

What was the most difficult question they asked ?
I was asked the basics: Why do you want to be a doctor? What do you like about our program? What book have you recently read? Do you feel you can handle the workload? Then the interview became much more conversational, which was nice.

Edit: the mock team-based learning exercise was not used to assess applicants - strictly for showing their new curricular approach. Those questions were very ambiguous and prompted a lot of informative discussion among the two student groups.

Thanks for the feedback...hopefully we all get in

Was there a group interview with the Dean( Like previous years) or did the mock discussion replace that. Also did the 2 interviewers you had know everthing about your application? Thank you for your help!! This is my first choice school and I have an interview coming up very soon and I am very nervous.
