2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
(sorry if this has been asked before) does anyone know if/when the school sends info about interview day -- logistics, directions/transportation, hotels, student host program, etc? I recently booked mine and started looking for plane tickets before I realized I needed to know where and when I need to be there

If you (or anyone else in this thread) will be interviewing at the Urbana campus, I'm an undergrad here and know the area and could help with any questions!

Yesterday, I called to check on another thing, and she said decision letters haven't been mailed yet. The way she said it, sounded like they probably won't get around to sending them for a while 🙁

This school is sort of evil, but I love it anyway.

Yeah, I checked the threads from past years and it took about a week from when they updated statuses until they mailed letters.... plus a few more days for people to actually recieve the letters

So more waiting, but it'll all be worth it!

Hey, I interviewed on 9/23 and my portal still says "decision pending." I think what happened is they deferred us to the next adcom meeting. Maybe they aren't ready to give us the all clear. Based on last years thread we should be brought up again by mid to late November. Good luck to you 😛

Did you ask when they'll mail them? Someone should ask, that'd take away the suspense for everyone.

Lol no. I had already given up my AMCAS ID to do the change of address, so I didn't want to reveal myself as the neurotic annoyance.

I'm seriously considering making my roommate call and ask though since they can't link her number to anything... I'm crazy. I mean, I'm probably not gonna do it, but still.

do you volunteer as tribute?

no, I nominate you 😛

lol do it 😛.

Did anyone get a decision made without the additional correspondence tab? I'm wondering if everyone who had a decision made in the last meeting got the "additional correspondence" tab this year. Come on someone who didn't get the additional correspondence tab! come out of the woods and be honest! 😛

This is a post that is circulated every year about the status changes you may get

START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary):https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page. [At the bottom of this post I link to a program I made that makes checking your status as easy as double clicking your mouse.]

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Progress" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.

M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.

N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.

S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

yep. I saw that. I'm just hoping they didn't change it so everyone who got a decision gets an additional correspondence tab this year. That's why i'm hoping someone will come out of the woodwork who has that status.

I think that's a reach (an anxiety fueling reach).... the majority of applicants don't respond on SDN and I think it's early on in the cycle still for many people who interviewed to be rejected instead of deferred to the next month's meeting.

Does anyone know if UIC does silent rejections? In state, complete 8/20, UIUC student, and I've been "Applicant in progress" for 9 weeks now.

+1, I think they're processing IS and OOS at different rates. Just my speculation. When I called to ask about being "in progress" for so long they simply said I hadn't been reviewed yet.

I feel like it's more likely that being "in process" for a long time indicates a "silent rejection", if there is such a thing.

3 days for first class, 6 for standard... grrrr.

Unless it goes to my parent's house, in which case it'll be there by Saturday. I'm not sure how I'd feel about that.
It's too bad they don't offer the "ayyy come pick up your letter" option so the majority of us could drive less than an hour roundtrip lol. Or you know, email, but whatever.

Haha that would be nice... though it'd be a 12 hour round trip driving for me.

Oh UIC. You never change. Isn't it crazy that they've had the same portal with the same messages for like 10 years?

You will see Final Decision Made in your status. Unless they've changed it from last year.

Ugh. I thought IS was supposed to have preference! When were you complete?
I've been complete for ~8 weeks. I know a lot of other people on here have it a lot worse though!
And I think IS still does have major preference, I think I read somewhere (maybe last year's thread? I can't remember) that about 80% of their class is IS! So I'm not getting worried just yet, but I love UIC so I'm getting a little antsy!

I'm still hearing silence from all medical schools so I'm in full on panic mode.

Just to clarify, "process" means that they are actively looking at the application, right?

So, would it be reasonable to think that based on numbers, I've been relegated to a tier that they will review at a later date? (Possibly this coming Tuesday) at which point I will be "in process" and possibly be invited for an interview?

IDK, I think it's more likely that they just get a ton of IS applicants and they haven't gotten to yours (or mine) yet. Though if your theory is right, I hope that I see a status change to "in process" soon too! C'Mon UIC, give me some in-state loveeee!

Has anyone who has had a final decision made received a CBC email yet?

When is your application considered "complete" after you submit your secondary or is it submitted secondary plus all of your letters of rec in? I submitted my secondary application on 8/21 but my last letter of rec was not received according to the status check website until 9/14. If it's according to letters of rec I have only been complete for 7 weeks. Just trying to make myself feel better about the waiting game lol. It hasn't been that long right?

Do you know which interview date their were for? I interviewed the first day and my portal still says decision pending

It should just be for those who have the status "Final decision made" but you never know what could happen I guess

I already got one of those. If they send me one again I might scream

When you IL folks get the mail, please through me a bone over here in MN and let me know if it's standard or first class!

I live in the suburbs and nothing came in the mail today. Hopefully tomorrow!

Starting to doubt that letters went out on Wednesday (I live 30 min away from UIC). Fingers crossed for tomorrow, though.
