2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I think this last week sometime I changed from Progress to Applicant in Process. I have already been accepted to MCW, but would really like to go to UIC since it is my in-state school. Does "Process" mean I have been moved to the bottom? :/
Bottom of what? I think the general consensus is that once you're in process you're actively being reviewed. I know a lot of people who are still in progress, as I was for about 38 years before getting an interview! You should be in good shape.

Anyone know of any indication that the Chicago campus is nearing capacity? I really really want to be placed there and I'm cautiously optimistic as it seems from this thread that there are still some spots left. If I get Chicago then I can finally relax.

I know for a fact that there have been people who have not been in placed at Chicago and had ranked it #1. Then again based on past years' threads this likely doesn't mean it's full yet

Are the sole factors in deciding placement your ranking and availability? For example, I'm from Chicago and my application was pretty centered around wanting to work with Hispanic populations (which I'm assuming there's not much of in UC). Would someone like me be more likely to be placed in Chicago versus someone who has no apparent connections to the city or reasons to be there?

Has anyone substituted their second semester of Organic Chemistry with Biochem? The pre-req page indicates that "one course of introductory biochemistry may substitute for the second organic chemistry." My main concern is that this is a case-by-case basis.

Are you talking about years past or that people haven't gotten Chicago campus despite it being their first preference this cycle?

I really don't know how site placement works and what factors go into it. Obviously if you get in earlier in the cycle you have a better chance of getting what you want.

This cycle

Sent in my deposit and site request form today. I put Peoria as my first choice, so I'm really hoping I get it. I definitely don't want to end up in Rockford...

This cycle

damn. That's disheartening.

Does anyone know what the Hepatitis B form is? Is it the same as the online immunization portal we had to make or is it something separate? If it's separate, where can I find it? Thanks!

I submitted the secondary in November and the portal still shows "applicant in progress." Anyone on the same boat? Should I consider this a rejection?

I finished my secondary first week of November, and received my invite first week of January.

Not sure if this was posted yet, but this was the flowchart. and don't ask me specifics about anything: I'm just copypasting it from last year:

********************************
START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page. [At the bottom of this post I link to a program I made that makes checking your status as easy as double clicking your mouse.]

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.

M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.

N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.

S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

*** NOTE: There are no guarantees in the above information, since there is always the chance that UIC changes things up. Just always keep in mind that the above is of what has happened, and not what will happen.

Currently working on pre-enrollment requirements. I know we need to send transcripts but does anyone know if that includes study abroad transcripts? Do I have to call the school I studied abroad at and ask them to send it to UIC?

Also, I'm a little confused about the immunization requirements. Are we supposed to upload proof to CertifiedProfile or are we supposed to mail them? Maybe I'll just call and ask.

Crap I hope not...let me know if you find out. I mean my classes for my study abroad are on my home institution transcript...

I just followed what I did on AMCAS. My study abroad courses were on my home institution's transcript and that was good enough for AMCAS and for UIC.

I know that this has been mentioned a couple of times, but when is the committee supposed to meet again? I read a couple of posts that referred to Feb 8, but do we know that for sure? Also, for those people that have been accepted already, did your portal change on the same day as the committee meeting, or was it later?

Same, but I submitted early October.

I called and finally got through today. They said that they got slammed this year for "various reasons". They said that they'll get to everyone(eventually... Just not promising when) and everyone will still have an opportunity to be considered to interview.

I was told they are interviewing into April.

I mean, the dean of admissions said Feb 8th. I guess that's as close we'll get to knowing for sure.

Just called. The person was really hard to hear but I said I was confused about pre-enrollment requirements and they said to only call on Thursdays for those kind of things because they have counselors on Thursdays to help (I didn't know that). Luckily, it's Thursday.

Anyways they said that they did not need study abroad transcripts. I told them that it doesn't show up on my university's transcripts and he said it was fine and to just send from the university I got my degree from. (Not sure what people who took some courses at other universities would do). I also asked about immunization requirements also and they said to just upload it to CertifiedProfile.

That's good to know.
Any idea how many OOs applicants get secondaries? I know they screen apps before sending a secondary.

"Application is in Process"

I have an extra 'is' in my status. Does it mean anything?! /s
Anyhow, went back from "Applicant in Process" so sad day. 🙁

Got the CBC email this morning. I have no idea of my addresses before 1998, and I have no way of finding them out, so hopefully that doesn't muck up the background check too much...

Someone on pre-allo said they called and they don't really care how many addresses you put on there.

Sorry if this has already been answered but how long doos it take for them to get back to us on the location they put us in after sending in the little slip?

Hmm...at my interview they said that the committee meets at the end of every month. Still, I hope it's February 8th because I want to know...badly.

That's so weird that they would specifically say it's meeting "next Monday"....

Odd indeed! I thought that the general consensus was that they meet on a specific Tuesday or something like that. What did your status change to and when?

Yeah according to this thread it's the third day of every month. I feel like the dean of admissions or whatever he was would not just randomly get that wrong lol. Now I'm gonna be sad if they don't meet on Monday.
My status changed to Decision Pending today.

That's true. I guess I'll wait for my status to change. I believe "Decision Pending" means they review it at the next meeting. I was told we will hear back in late February.
