2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

So it seems like some people moved from progress to process to interview already, while others are still stuck in progress despite being complete much earlier. How does that work? Is there screening to go from progress to process? My understanding was that "process" is the actual screening, the first time they actually look at the merit of your application and that everyone gets to that stage regardless of their competitiveness. But maybe thats not the case. :inpain:

I remember reading somewhere earlier in this thread that 'in progress' means that your app has been reviewed and while everything is complete, you are not considered for interview at the time. 'In process' means that your app was reviewed an considered for an II on the first pass. Even if you don't get an II during the first round, I would think that they re-review applications throughout the cycle and compare you to other applicant pools over time so it's not a definitive 'rejection'.

I think there's also a distinction between "application in progress" and "applicant in progress" and "applicant in process,' IIRC.

This is from last year's thread

This is from last years thread, Humbob posted this. Hope it helps in the future application process if its on the front page

Below is a sort of flow chart for how the admission process works.

********************************
START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page. [At the bottom of this post I link to a program I made that makes checking your status as easy as double clicking your mouse.]

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.

M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.

N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.

S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

FINISH

*** NOTE: There are no guarantees in the above information, since there is always the chance that UIC changes things up. Just always keep in mind that the above is of what has happened, and not what will happen.

**********************************

I want to add last year there was ONE person (as far as i know the ONLY person) who got the "Additional Correspondences" Tab and was rejected.

I've been in progress from the moment I submitted end of July, so I doubt that in progress = application has been reviewed and set aside

According to most evidence I was able to find, there is no screening between "progress" and "process" as per the quote from gandalf1. Also, I've been digging through last year's thread to satisfy my neuroticism and found the following post:

"I did give them a call today, she said just keep checking the status page and that progress just means you're complete but haven't been reviewed yet. Guess they aren't reviewing by date received, which definitely relieves a little worry."

2014-2015 University of Illinois Application Thread

So I guess the preponderance of evidence indicates that going from progress to process-and thus from being a file in a cabinet to a live application being considered for interview or rejection-is a somewhat luck of the draw. I'm not sure whether this decreases or increases my anxiety, lol. There was a guy last year who was "applicant in progress" in July 2014 and didn't go to "process" until 2015! +pity+

Mine's been stuck on that since I was complete on 7/30. Not fair that all my schools are taking their sweet time reviewing me

Ditto my friend, I think end of July was heavy volume for a lot of places, or at least that's what I tell myself

Strange. I submitted 8/14 and have been "in progress" for atleast 4 days now

Is there anyone here who got an interview today who actually applied MSTP? The email I got doesn't mention MSTP at all. I'll call tomorrow morning but I was curious if anyone else had a similar problem.

Okay, so upon further investigation, it looks like they consider you "separately and concurrently" for MD and MSTP (plus, the interview dates are different) so I guess this is just my first MD-only interview!

Has anyone here been able to actually schedule an interview? Looks like they still have 32/32 spots open online, but I was jw. Whenever I tried to call, no one picked up. I attempted up until 5, obviously.

For those of you getting ii, when did you submit the secondary? I submitted about two weeks ago

How long has it seemed to take for people to be marked "complete" and pass the "awaiting admissions officer letter review" stage? I know it differs for everyone but I'm curious as to around when I should start rabidly checking the status page multiple times a day.

You can go from progress to process and then back to progress again. "Process" does not indicate that an interview will be offered that round; you may see it again later, but hopefully you're not still checking that much because it's really not worth the time until you get your official interview offered email and you can act on it. I happened to come across "process" in December, but it was not the first time my app was reviewed.

Believe me, you're better off not worrying about the status page. Life is just better when you're not thinking about the process in general 😀 lol

Do you think it's ok if my dad drives me to the interview as long as he doesn't come in? I don't feel very comfortable driving in Chicago, and definitely don't want to do it with interview nerves. Plus he's UIC alum and likes to go back to campus/Greektown from time to time.

I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't be perfectly acceptable! I mean, they aren't going to judge you because your father drove you to the interview (as long as he is not present and doesn't come in with you, as that may make you look not so independent).

I live in Minnesota now but my dad still lives in Chicago and if I (hopefully) get an interview here, I would totally have my dad drive me if he wanted to. he's my best friend so any time I can spend with him is really important to me.

Whaaaat? I live in Minnesota now too!

My dad dropped me off at mine, as did my SO's dad for his. I also had friends near-tackle me during the tour and they didn't seem to mind - UIC's pretty relaxed. 🙂

@Habdulra - I don't think so. You'd have to try reaching out to med students separately.

Any idea how UIC gives out interviews? Seems like a lot of people heard yesterday, so do they give out a bunch in cycles/rounds? Or do people just get selected for interview periodically? My secondary was completed 7/20, applied IS, and I still haven't heard back. Guess I'm just a little worried because a few people who had their secondaries completed after mine have already gotten IIs. Thanks for any help!

II invite today!!! so excited 🙂 I checked my application and it changed to interview scheduling. I believe you have to call to set it up! I was complete on 7/23

What dates are available?

also just FYI I didn't/haven't receive an email saying I was granted an interview, I just checked my status and then gave them a call! So I'm not sure if they send out interview emails like other schools.

They do, as others have already received interview emails (they don't always go out at the same time). Yours was probably set to go out within the day. Congrats!

And to others, on the topic of scheduling, you can only set it up by calling the office.

Hi everyone. I'm a re-applicant who is applying to most DOs this year but UIC as well because I'm in state. Anyone know how they look at re-applicants? I know some schools compare the two applications line by line where others view you as a completely new applicant. Any ideas?
Hello, I'm also applying to UIC as a reapplicant. I called admissions awhile back to ask that very question and it was explained to me that they had not only saved my previous application, but also would be comparing it to my new application to see how I had improved.

Where is this status update thing on the application?

I got an e-mail for an interview and am hopping around may application trying to find information on interview times but am unable to find anything

For me, the times were on the second page of the application portal--have to hit next at the bottom go page over to it. It was a table of dates/times that you call to schedule!

Anyone complete on 7-29 still in progress? In state here
