2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

Umm..That's kind of why I'm asking the question about the turnover rate. There is no misinformation from way I have said so far. What you did is sort of the equivalent of coming up to some random dude saying "hey did you stop beating your wife yet?" Lol.
I'm asking what is the average turnover rate of students that were accepted to the school but chose another. Then I talked about how girotti specifically stated that, per aamc law, all seats are filled. No misinformation. Maybe some word choices that made you feel a sense of dread.there's a difference

If this answers your question, they compile the waitlist near the end of may. People are taken off the waitlist throughout the summer, usually with the final offers in july. They typically seem to go through a good portion of the first quartile and might hit the second, but if you are in the second, plan on not getting in.

In other news, do you guys think the adcoms will meet today? Since it's Match Week and tomorrow's Match Day; I know that other schools tend to be slower regarding decisions around this time...

So does anyone know if there is a committee meeting today?

Are the committee meetings you all are asking about are to decide on interviewed applicants or is this the meeting where they decide who to send out interview invites? Or both?

Holy cow. Does anyone read previous posts before asking questions? I just interviewed very recently and was told we won't be looked at until next month because the current adcoms are preparing for the review that will be happening this week. They alreayd have all the materials.

I was reading last year's thread and many people from the first quartile did not get in, while several people from the second quartile did.

Maybe I missed something. What are these quartiles?

They divide the wait list into quartiles, so it's like a ranked wait list.

Ok, so I assume you are told what quartile you are in? Seems odd that the 1st quartile would see less movement than the 2nd, but maybe they are not ranked that way.

Yeah they tell you. It is weird that anyone from the second quartile would get in ahead of someone from the first quartile. What's the point of quartiles, then?

The thread is real feisty today I see lol. Chillax guys. I should of worded my question better. I understand the "3rd Thursday" committee meetings are to determine who gets acceptances out of the interviewed applicants. Is there committee meetings to determine who get interview invites or is that handled in a totally different process?

I think it probably has to do with diversity of class. So if the class is already 60% male or 30% Asian, an Asian male in the top quartile is probably not getting in. Just a guess though.

Perhaps it's a good idea to post this again since it's now about 25 pages back.

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Progress" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.

M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.

N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.

S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

Application in process =/= applicant in process.
I was worried because some ppl have said that if you get the application in process status that you are not good enough for a interview. Are you saying that they are the same thing?

=/= means not equal to. They are not the same thing. Applicant just means you are being reviewed, application means they aren't going to reject you but you're on pre-II hold.

This is opening a whole new can of worms..especially after the Oscar thing, the UWashington incident, and the NYPD thing on Asians...

Congratulations! Do they still have a lot of interview dates?

Thank you! On the portal it showed the dates of 3/25, 3/28, 3/39, 3/30, 3/31 with mostly all the sites saying 0 interviews slots open except two and i can't remember which two dates and sites they had listed but was totally different from what they told me on the phone. When I called the only dates available was 3/30 in Peoria.

My portal still says applicant in process...Complete in august! status JUST changed earlier this month! If I didnt already have acceptances I would be losing my mind!! 😎

Alright, well based on the interviews they offered, we know that some group of people met in some capacity yesterday. Has anybody's portal changed from decision pending to final decision post interview?

Nada, but we should give it till the end of the business day today before we make any conclusions.

Applicant in progress = Application in progress? What is mean?

Alright, well based on the interviews they offered, we know that some group of people met in some capacity yesterday. Has anybody's portal changed from decision pending to final decision post interview?

Wondering the same thing

Ah yes, that time of the month again where I'll neurotically track this thread in hopes of seeing that portals are being updated continuously throughout the day, frantically checking to see if my status has changed with every new post, and only to find 'decision pending'. Then, trying to rationalize that the adcoms made a mistake and forgot to update my portal, hoping that something will still arrive in the mail. Then, upon seeing no letter despite others' confirmation of receiving such, falling back into frustration and telling myself and my co-workers, "Maybe next month."

Ah yes, my favorite time of the month. B)

On another note entirely, did anyone receive interviews for the UMed/GMed/etc. programs? Based on past years' threads, I thought it was just after the deadline that those are sent out.

Still decision pending. At this point should I treat it as a waitlist or a rejection?
At worst, wait list. It's definitely not a rejection if you're still decision pending.

I should add that I was "Decision pending" for four months after my interview. I was finally accepted in January. It's not over til it's over.

Congrats. Does anyone get rejected post interview here at all? And does anyone know when they officially tell you you're on the waitlist?
