2015-2016 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
See past couple of years threads. You are usually on hold for file review throughout interview season. Rejections/Defer/Waitlist are usually within a few weeks if you interview. They were overenrolled for a 2013/2014, back to 170 in 2015, so new real waitlist movement (effectively a rejection)
Hmm, interesting. I am a bit surprised by this, though, given their aim of being extremely transparent. I'd have thought they would be very open about outright rejections.

Since it seems like you have perused the old thread thoroughly, I wonder if you might know: if we submit our applications and the status just says "submitted" is that pretty much an indicator that we have not truly been reviewed yet. In other words, do people who are on hold get informed of it pretty quickly? If you don't know, don't waste your time digging on my account. I might drop over to some older threads to check it out this afternoon!

I am more familiar with 2013, as my brother is an M2 at U of M (so I've sort of been through this before). Seems like they put applicants in different piles (OOS versus IS), the high stats folks in one pile, interesting people in another, and they go through them periodically. They say in their website they review apps in groups, comparing different apps, could include some on hold time (my brother didn't get an interview invite until December, no notice of "on hold"). The trend is to interview the high stats folks first (given the average stats from the earlier trackers, versus the trend downward as time goes on). There is a substantial difference in MCAT averages between IS and OOS (34.5 IS versus 36 for OOS) - - public school about 50/50 IS/OOS. There is a mass rejection in Feb after all the interview slots are taken.

That's extremely informative, so thank you!

I had my phone screen side down and was happily eating lunch when it buzzed at exactly 1pm. Was instantly reminded today is #UMichMedMonday.

I flip my phone over and check the screen - new Tinder match.

Edit: 1:04pm and my phone just buzzed again - Target has some rad sales for me.

For those with IIs, congrats! Can you please let everyone know when you submitted your application?

Did anyone have an issue with being unable to enter in their AMCAS ID? the field is grey and it won't let me click in.

It's pre-filled with your ID from the primary, I believe.

It's not prefilled, even though my name and stuff is. It won't let me submit without those fields, and it won't let me fill in those fields. 🙁

That's odd, I remember there being discussion on here in the first few pages about how everyone's AAMC ID, Legal Name/s etc. were already on there and the fields were grey. Call them about this issue, maybe? They were very helpful when I called.

I had the same issue. I just called admissions, and they confirmed that the fields should have been pre-populated. They told me to email someone in the business department, so I'll update you when I get it figured out.

EDIT: Called back to make sure that they had all of my application materials, and I am told that it is a glitch in their system and my application is complete & under review. They're working to fix the issue, but it shouldn't affect your application @a_borgia

Even if I wasn't able to submit it? They told me to email the person in business as well, though no word so far.

For those of you with IIs, do you mind letting us know what dates are available? I'm thinking of sending an ITA email, but if all the dates of after October, then there's no point.

I was given a choice between a few dates in Mid-October, but that was a few weeks ago

I was assigned November 13th, received my II on Monday.

So people were talking about HIPPA forms earlier... I didn't see that anywhere on the interview confirmation form....? Did I miss something?

It's not part of the interview confirmation form. If you go to the main page of the applicant portal, there is a button that says "View Checklist." The HIPAA stuff is in that section, as well as a few other things.

I don't see any of these forms (i.e. HIPAA) that you guys mentioned were in your checklist--but I'm interviewing for MSTP so I don't know if that's why or if I'm just missing something. My interview invitation did not say I should be on the lookout for forms of any kind but I wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem. @neurotroph (sorry, you're the only MSTP applicant I remember posting in here!)

Yep no mention of HIPAA in my portal or invite email. Must be an MD-only thing.

Dear UMich,

So, 257 offers before today + 50 today = 307 interview offers out of 528, 58% total interviews out the door so far, more than 1/2. Yikes, it is still August!!

Does Michigan send out a File Complete email? Because I don't see my status on their website
