2015-2016 University of Vermont Application Thread

I think those that interviewed on 10/31 (Halloween) are going to hear back this week! In the past, those that interviewed around the end of October heard back the week before Thanksgiving. ¡Buena suerte amigos!

Because UVM conducted interviews a bit differently this year, with around 72 applicants/interview day during the first few sessions, it looks like they are releasing decisions a bit differently as well. Several of my friends that interviewed in September have yet to hear back, unfortunately...

They told us some time before Christmas.

Ah intresting! Well never mind then 😀

Being processed for more than three months here... Can I have my application fee back?

They said it took up to 12 weeks to process (does it say that on your portal?)... I think I just moved into the preliminary review phase, which is another 6-8 weeks. Waiting is painful!

I still haven't been marked complete either and I submitted 9/2. Not sure why it takes that long to even be marked complete..

I am pretty sure that my package has been processed for more than three 12 weeks. My interest in this program slowly drifts away, partially because of that.

I interviewed here this past weekend and the admissions folks were well aware of peoples frustrations about the length of processing times... Just know that they are putting what seems like a lot of effort into holistically reviewing each and every application. Don't give up hope! Once they get to you, your application will be given more than just a quick look over!

+1 this is incredibly frustrating given that i submitted into August and they have been scheduling interviews in JANUARY already for past couple of weeks. not looking good.

Jeez.. that doesn't look good for someone like me who submitted early but still hasn't been marked complete.

I remember WedgeDawg posting somewhere that he didn't receive a complete status for 17+ weeks and then finally withdrew in December before they had even reviewed his application.

I strongly wish there is a refunding policy for packages that never been reviewed. I don't like to donate for nothing...

That's why I'll just keep my application in the running until the cycle is over. Figure I have already spent the money anyways.

I sent them an update letter a week ago to try and be like hello, did you forget about me? haha

Did you hear anything back from the office?

Yeah I submitted 13 or 14 weeks ago. That's not cool. I sent them a message through the portal.

Interviewed on 11/6. They said to expect a decision somewhere around Christmas time or early January.

I submitted around Aug 10th and still not under review. Is anyone, who submitted after Aug. 10th, under review?

Some of us who interviewed on 9/26 still haven't heard back yet so I think UVM is running behind a bit compared to previous years. Was told we should hear before Thanksgiving? though. So hopefully the rest of the 9/26 groups hears back this week.

By the way, when I sent them a message to make sure I haven't been forgotten (submitted early August) they said this: "All the materials for your application have been received. I expect it will go into review in the next several weeks. Please continue to check your most up-to-date status on the on-line applicant center or the “Check Your Status” link on our web page at http://www.uvm.edu/medicine/admissions/. "

Next several weeks... already waited 3+ months..... yaaay. Is the application cycle always this slow?

I got a similar response...expected to go in review in next several weeks...

How you could not want to go to school here? 😍

That's a tough question. I don't think you are going to find a good answer for this. Just remember that you have a 0% chance of getting an II without entering the small pool.
You've got to be in it to win it

I apologize if this has been asked before but I don't remember seeing anything. Can anyone tell me how UVM is for merit scholarships and grants? That OOS tuition is pretty high...

+1 on this.
(the community involvement and research thoooo 🙁 )

Is there a stage between processing materials and being small pooled?

For state-specific grants, check out your home-state and start applying for outside scholarships. Look for scholarships from your community and any organizations you were/are a part of (this is general advice for all medical schools!).

UVM does give out merit-based scholarship and the amount varies. However, I do not know how many scholarships they do give out.

Now under preliminary review. Another 6-8 weeks?!
This is absolutely absurd....

If I had an acceptances, this is one the first schools I'd consider withdrawing my app from.

How long ago did you submit? I'm pushing week 14 of "your supplemental application has been received" just wondering how many more weeks of waiting I have to look forward to...

I really liked this school, but it looks like at this rate they might not even get to my application before they give out all their IIs for the year.

At least you are under review 🙁

If it makes you feel any better, interviewed applicants are told we are waiting 8-12 weeks for a final decision.
They're admitting how far behind they are right now. Behind in final decisions and on IIs.

Hi everyone! Could someone provide insight into approximately what percent of all applicants are small-pooled? Thank you!

Now been 16 weeks. Sent an update at the beginning of last week that was received. Starting to lose hope.

I'm at 12 weeks and sent an update as well. This scares me.. Haha
Now been 16 weeks. Sent an update at the beginning of last week that was received. Starting to lose hope.

15 weeks, update sent and received about 2-3 weeks ago, still in 'application received' mode. I wouldn't worry yet, you guys- from what it looks like on this thread they are just completely inundated with apps and are getting further and further behind. Perhaps after the holidays there will be a second wave of movement. Hang in there!

I hope you're right! at this rate though it seems like they might be done giving out interviews by the time they get to late August apps which is ridiculous. I don't mind waiting as long as my app is reviewed and given a chance but I think people are frustrated because that may not happen given how "behind" they are. if they have already given out all January interviews and many of us aren't even considered complete despite submitting over 3 months ago it honestly makes sense that we are losing hope.

This.

I have no problem being patient if they are behind, but if my app won't even be complete in time to be considered for an II, that is where my frustration lies. Especially when your app is submitted within the first 1.5-2 months of being open

How did you send the update? Via snail mail or email? I didn't see an option of updating through the app portal

Email to the admissions office. They confirmed it the next morning!

Hi friends, I wouldn't worry so much! I've been complete for 17 weeks (submitted around first week of August) and just moved into small pool applicants. Might not seen an update for several months though? 🙁

Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months.

Interviews are scheduled between mid-September and mid-March. You will be notified via email if you have been selected to interview.

Omg..i was actually small pooled. Down side to an II here? 8 hour drive there.
