2015-2016 Virginia Commonwealth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you were going to reschedule, I would email or call in person to inquire about that. These automated systems are too iffy to risk losing a perfectly good interview slot.

ii scheduled for sept 16. stoked! complete 8/25

but this is totally not fair to my friends who received ii weeks ago but are scheduled for December...

has anyone clicked the reschedule button to know what it actually does? asking for them. insight appreciated for the whole SDN community

Hi! Please tell us if you are IS or OOS! Thank you!

I know Tulane gives out interviews far in advance like VCU and then random people get earlier interviews. If you reschedule you do so at the risk of there not being another open slot for you to take. If VCU is already giving "no more interviews left" messages, then they might do things the same way.

It sucks to have to wait so long, but I don't think your friends are any more likely to be accepted if they interview in Oct rather than Dec

thanks for your feedback! my impression is similar to yours: don't play dice with the gods of admission. they will win. my friends slayed the LizzyM scale anyway

best of luck to all you people out there! hopefully meet some of you in Richmond next week!

Got the second status today. Complete 8/25, OOS.

Anyone get a rejection after getting this status yet?

Are you IS? If you look through the thread you'll see many, many people have gotten interviews after getting that status.

It's so funny reading about all your interview struggles. My AMCAS was verified 8/10/15 and I got a preliminary email two days later, but no secondary ever came.

OOS, 3.9, 518

vewey sad

Finally received a status update today. Complete 7/23 IS. Looks like they're finally getting around to reviewing those complete in late July!

The sixth of July, right? People who submitted 8/25 are hearing back now lololol. This thread makes me channel my inner jalby.
You are an absolute delight on this thread, @rachiie01.
Complete early July too.
From what I've heard from a former Admissions MSIV, your file gets reviewed by a specific person who may or may not be on the bounce. Same/Similar goes for interview spots. They plug in their availability when they can. They have to train first, so some spots may open up even though you have a later interview b/c the interviewers have to shadow a real interview before conducting one on their own. It makes sense, but it would be nice if it were common knowledge.

Omg this makes so much sense! I think the trainee reviewing our files is MIA for real though. She's two months behind her colleagues lol. Methinks she quit like 6 weeks ago without giving notice and no one has realized that she just stopped showing up for work. That's my theory, anyway. Or they're processing FAP applications last but I think that would be quite the scandal haha.

I'm early July, not FAP, and I'm still sitting here without a status change. So the "FAP last" theory might be out the window, but the "trainee quit without notice and everyone else was too busy to realize" theory is gaining steam and getting stronger by the second.

Yuuuuupp. It's a bit ridiculous, really. I mean, I'm trying to just relax and take this cycle as it comes, but things like this make that a bit difficult to do!

I second that! damn them for quitting on us

Well, I got the dreaded "further" update. Here's hoping I'm lucky enough to get an interview!!

I submitted my AMCAS in mid July, OOS....Still waiting on being screened. Haven't even received the secondary yet......

In fact, I never got any correspondence from them at all. I went to the secondary site myself and made a login to check my status...

Agreed. I definitely feel like the earlier you get one of these updates, the less likely the "level" is to matter. Although it seems like September is late for VCU for some reason.

It's starting feel like the first week of July is late for OOSers here...never mind September!

I've been reading all the posts about mid-July submissions who seem to have been forgotten and I agree with the idea that we just got unlucky with your AdCom assignment. I was complete on 7/3 and I was only just upgraded to the level 4 "you might be interviewed" status yesterday whereas some people who were complete 8/30 have interviews scheduled already.

So I was complete late July, although I had an additional letter added mid August. Still no status update. Anyone else in this position? Should I call?

Seems like half the people in this thread is in your position or worse (early July)...and that they are unfriendly when called, even for more legitimate reasons than this. Sorry...at least we feel your pain?

This and someone else's post gives me hope that they're at least taking the first batches of OOSers!

yea i'm not too disappointed that they rejected me

I'm guessing I already know the answer to this question judging by some of the previous posts, but does anyone know if they are open to in the area emails? I'm from the West Coast and will be at a few schools on the East Coast in Dec. I would prefer to not have to make two trips, but I don't want to bother them as they sound like they are less than stoked about email correspondence. My file is only Complete and was submitted 7/23.

Been on the file complete since mid-July. I even did both secondaries, show me some attention VCU!

Got this status today: "The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score." OOS, complete 8/11, FAP recipient

I would not read into it too much. People have received II and rejections from a variety of status updates. If you look through older threads, years past have tried to nail down meanings from the status updates, but all have failed. I don't believe this thread will pull it off this year either.
But for the archives, I received a II 3 days after the further status update. I'm IS.

I know a lot of people received interview dates last month that is after the first round of acceptances, (I'm in the same boat), and other qualified apps have yet to be reviewed, does anyone know what happens to the odds for acceptances later in the cycle at this school. I'm thinking it stays the same and hoping it just gets better with time. Wondering if anyone has any solid evidence one way or the other.

Do you know if the statuses have different meanings for IS vs. OOS? Over 50% of all IS applicants get an II, according to the MSAR, but only about 8% of OOS applicants get one. Maybe they assign all priority scores the same way, but they pull more from the IS list, or something.

Hahahaha I love this thread/that people are now stating their FAP status. Loves, I didn't actually think they would discriminate against FAP recipients, it was just a joke! Congrats on your status updates...that seems to be a rate limiting step at this school

Yeah, all statuses are game in here. We burnt through the other stats by page 4. This has to be the most active app thread this year. We may not all get in, but we were all part of a special record, 100 pages. Lol.

Looks like only Mayo has a more active thread with 132,000 views and 28 pages

I sat down one night with a notebook. I went through 3 years of threads trying to find a pattern and could not. While it's true your chances are better IS due to less apps than OOS, they take 50% OOS so they are very friendly to OOS. I don't see a difference in IS or OOS status updates giving clues. That's with a lot of research and just short of hiring a private investigator to sort it all out.

Oh wow, thanks! That's some serious dedication!

I submitted on 8/25 and got an II yesterday. Did not expect it at all, because my GPA is quite low. I am SO EXCITED to interview here and see the school. Definitely my top choice school, as I'm in-state. (For reference I got the "further" status three days ago, and don't think my status changed until the II.)

soooo jealous. same complete date, but im oos. havent heard back anything. congrats tho

@XxThaDoggxX Yesssss I'm so excited for you!! I hope they treat you better in person, love!

Instead of withdrawing I made a bet with a friend to see how long it takes them to actually review our files. We're coming up on two months since submission for both of us haha. This has become a running joke.

Thanks bayyyybayyyy

And don't worry I feel that way about a large majority of my other schools right now!!!!

Congrats, you've made it past what is apparently, inexplicably, the hardest step. How on EARTH did you get reviewed after less than a month?!?
