2016-2017 Duke University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For what it's worth, I've interviewed at quite a few top-10 schools, and Duke is probably my number one choice. I think it's just a matter of fit! Their yield might not be as high as Harvard, but there are still people who would choose it over Harvard, I think.

I too interviewed at three schools ranked above Duke (USNews) and Duke is my top choice as well.

oh man all y'all with these top 10 interviews making me not wanna hear my decision lol

Hey, chin up. I've gotten rejections from my share of top-10s, too. :)
If you got an interview at Duke, you're obviously a very qualified and amazing person. I wish you the best!

Thanks!! Best of luck to you as well! I suppose I'm just trying to rationalize not getting my hopes up haha

Don't count yourself out. When I applied I thought there would be no chance at all that Duke would even take a second look at my application, did not consider myself competitive for a school like Duke. I only got two interviews, luckily Duke was one of them. Now I am looking forward to meeting y'all (you start saying that when you move down south) when you come visit us at second look! (Which I highly recommend if you are capable)

Good luck to everyone who interviewed!

Confirming that y'all very quickly becomes a part of your vocabulary when you come down south... I was born and raised in NY and I say it all the time now

If I get into Duke and Harvard, it would be a hard choice for me on many levels, for sure. Personally, I'm hoping the choice is made for me... and that it isn't neither, since they are the top two schools on my list for sure.

Well, the first hour of today has already been difficult...this will be a long 3 days....

n=1, but I got in off the waitlist in 2014 as did several of my classmates. It is possible! I'm not sure about other years.

I think if they pull off the waitlist has more to do with how many they accept initially than anything else, but that is just my opinion and I really don't have any data to back that up.

tl;dr keep your head up and it's not over until it's over. Best of luck.

This is annoying, but I need a favor. I'm trying to set up e-mail alerts for this thread so I can move on with my day without checking SDN every 5 minutes. Could someone post a test message so I can check if it worked?

Gracias.

I just called Admissions...the kind lady who answered said they were now hoping for Friday and potentially a Monday-Tuesday rollover...

she said it was consistent with the whole "first Monday of March" message they'd been telling interviewees as of late...this roller coaster is going to be the death of me I swear

I have heard from two faculty members that decisions will be coming out march 6 - end of the week. Also, the March 1st date on the secondary login calendar has been there since they started the interviews this cycle. They then added two additional days in Feb for final interviews. Makes sense that the decision date would be pushed by a concordant amount of time. Plus I think what takes a long time at the end is finalizing financial aid / scholarship award packages once they have decided on the class. But hey i'm with all yall who are hoping decisions went out right now...

thats fine and it makes sense but then im not understanding why less than 24 hours ago people were told decisions come out starting today? If they werent coming out today I feel like they would have known that yesterday

Someone must have been mistaken. It's disappointing but we'll get over it! Mistakes happen!

I mean i dont think we can be sure about anything right now...but someone was told today that they arent coming out until friday. I guess we just have to wait and see till the first person gets a call

I don't think we are sure of anything haha, I think most of us on here hate being in the dark and are trying to rationalize it for our own peace of mind

this is ridiculous. I mean honestly you'd think they would have an answer by now, at least about WHEN decisions were coming out.

It is frustrating because the two times i called i got two different answers and each person sounded more sure of the answer than the other. Lets just be patient and let it come!

I just called again, the woman on the phone said no decisions will be released today and that it will most likely be Friday or Monday. So keep the anxiety till then :)

If I have to wait until monday I'm going to be an absolute mess. I feel like I'm constantly moving backwards. I wait anxiously for decision day, decision day arrives, have to wait again for decision day. This is not good for my mental health.

PREACH. The emotional rollercoaster is too much for me and I wish i could just wake up to an email one day and thats that.

I just detached myself today because I could no longer handle it. I have not slept a solid night all week and I feel drained. Literally this causes anxiety even in the least anxious of people. Just try to realize this is sooooo beyond out of our hands at this point and no matter how much you worry and how much anxiety you have it won't change what ADCOM does.

Right this is worse than when I found out my MCAT was postponed at 10pm the night before so I had to suffer through "the day before the MCAT" twice. I keep attempting to mentally prepare myself and then it's for nothing. We got this though, I keep telling myself that a few days is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

But two more days feels like eternity right now. Especially because I have already done the "two more days" mental pep talk on Monday.

who knows, maybe these extra couple days of deliberation will be the reason some of us get in

I'm definitely feeling the stress too. It probably won't be a bad idea to remember this feeling to make sure we understand what patients go through when waiting for important health test results...

Geez, that sucks. Why on earth did they postpone it?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. Last year the calls seemed to have started around 5pm, and since so many people on admissions have expressed mixed answers, I think if there's any chance for today, it'd start within the next hour. Otherwise it's most likely Friday or Monday.
