2016-2017 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

II this morning! Complete 9/12. Woot!!! Good luck, everyone!

I'm an incoming M1 to Loyola in the fall. If any of you have any questions regarding the application cycle, PM me!

I am a Hispanic OOS student from Florida, with an MCAT of 503 and a GPA of 3.93. Do you think I have a chance in this school? Would it be worth it to apply ?

MCAT on the lower end. But assuming you have good EC and LOR that GPA might save you. Have you already applied?

No I haven't applied to Loyola. I already applied to 15 schools, and I am just wondering if I should apply to a couple more to increase my chances.

You should def apply! I interviewed at Loyola with way lower MCAT and gpa. Granted I was waitlisted and was not accepted... But they did give me an opportunity. I now have a Masters and slightly better mcat and hoping for love again. The committee has changed since then (3 years ago) but I'm sure what they look for has not. Loyola is very mission based and truly values diversity. They look at applicants holistically. It's a wonderful school I hope you apply... And good luck! 🙂

For the second essay (personal challenge) does anyone know if talking about an issue I faced somewhat related to research counts as "academic"? Basically I applied for a research grant one year but my application was rejected because of the PI that I'd chosen to work with, so I was going to write about how I handled that. But idk if that still counts as an academic topic.

I called and asked them about whether a research struggle would be acceptable, and they said if it was the only challenge I had, then I could use it, but they advised that I think of something else as research can be considered academic. So I wrote about something else. I don't have an II though so it's not like I clearly made the correct choice. You could call them as well, they were really nice over the phone in helping me decide what to do.
Thank you!

They really want to get to know you outside of these controlled settings- this is your opp to be personable in your application, to reflect and show that you have thought about adversity critically. Id use this space to get as personal as possible.

Wew that sounds like good news, thought I was thrown out

Someone a few posts up got an II and was complete 9/12. I don't think they are going chronologically. I've heard nothing and was complete mid-August.

Is it too late to submit a secondary?

Any idea if Loyola will send something out on this Monday or are they usually conservative and do not say a thing on the first day?

I was under the impression that they would call on Monday if you were accepted and that's pretty much it (at least that's what I remember from my interview day)

they made it sound like they will be calling us on the 17th at the interview.......

Ya that's what I was told as well. That the 17th of October they would be calling students that were accepted. When did you interview?
