2016-2017 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I submitted my secondary in late July and have heard nothing since. Should I contact them or sit tight.

just got my "application complete" email from here at 1am this morning. :bored:

I also got an app completion Email this morning as well. Secondary submitted late September.

I got one a few weeks ago, hopefully you will too 🙂 My point was that those completion emails don't mean that they just now marked you as complete
Ah, thanks for the clarification. Congrats on the II! Hopefully we can be interview buddies 😉

If I got offered an II in only a few days after submitting my secondary, does this mean that Davis really likes my application? I submitted my secondary on Thursday of Aug 18 and received an II offer on Monday of Aug 22. I just want gauge how hopeful I can be. This is 1 of my 2 only interview offers so far so if I don't get in, I will be pretty worried and sad. Oh and if anyone is wondering, I am interviewing on Oct 21. I got a 512 on my MCAT w/ really unbalanced scores. I got +90th percentile on all sections except for CARS where I got 50th percentile. GPA is 3.91.....So anyways, does anyone think that the timing of my II offer is significant in terms of them taking an extra liking to my application compared to other people who got interviews? Thanks!

We can really only speculate, we don't know. But does that really matter? You've got an ii. Go kill it

Anyone know if they are notifying everyone today who has already interviewed or if they are just calling acceptances? Interviewed back in august and it sounded like everyone would hear something either way on the 15th, though I'm guessing they didn't realize the 15th fell on a Saturday. Losing my mind waiting around for a call..

Same. It's driving me nuts.

I am in group B for interviews. Is that better?

I don't think it matters at all. Bring your best self & good luck!!
Thanks! It's the group after lunch, right? I'm trying to figure out what the day will look like, haha
congrats on your acceptance!

Yep! Just think of it as having nicely fed interviewers 🙂

Are they done calling for the day? 🙁

how tough is their screening process?
From what I could find on the internet they give out secondaries to about 57% of people. Then they give out interviews to 12.5% of that population. THEN 50% of the interviewed population gets accepted.

Pretty sure they focus heavily on MCAT score and GPA for initial secondary screening.

its definitely not an mcat/gpa screen. folks with 75+ LizzyMs were in the wave of pre-secondary rejections early on in the cycle.

Not to be a hater but the screen goes beyond MCAT / GPA and the post interview acceptance rate is lower than that, so the rest of that info may be inaccurate as well.

In other news... any other September interviewees waiting for decisions here?

Interviewed early September and still waiting for a decision. 🙁 do you know if all the acceptance calls already went out?

I have a question and hopefully it doesn't violate confidentiality, so those who have interviewed already may be able to answer. I'm watching a youtube guide from a channel known as CourseGrinder for the MMI interview. The instructor on the video says that there are a few things you should always do in MMI scenarios. At the beginning, he says to always restate the prompt or scenario to the interviewer to confirm that you understand the situation. And he says to always ask questions regarding the scenario so that you can pick up key info. Do any of you agree w/ this or does this seem a bit unnatural to you. Perhaps I should just dive into the prompt w/o these initial steps?

They probably accepted a small number of applicants on Monday. Interviews are ongoing process where you're constantly compared to interviewees that interview each week

Does MMI not include personal interview questions such as questions about motivations, goals, background, etc.
I don't think we're allowed to discuss this. 🙁

I interviewed at the first date in August and haven't heard anything yet either. I wish they'd let us know either way so I can put a deposit down somewhere else without wasting my money and their time

I interviewed in August and have not heard anything.

I'm guessing pseudo-waitlist.

EDIT: rejected

Pre-secondary rejection....my primary was verified mid-July

Pre-secondary rejection! I don't get it! My primary AMCAS was processed/verified on June 27th. In-state resident with cGPA 3.78, sGPA 3.60, and MCAT of 512. Am I crazy, or should I have at least gotten a secondary?

just received the pre-secondary rejection as well

Post-interview rejection just now. Was hoping to stay in sac and not have to sell the house and move away from family. Obviously Davis doesn't care about that but it just sucks..

Jesus man, this really puts things in perspective. Sorry to hear about the result

verified mid august, i received secondaries from UCSD and UCR, hoping i can still pass the screening for a secondary from UCLA, UCSF and UCI

+1. I really don't know what they're looking for... I have similar stats (IS, LizzyM ~70) and felt like I had all the experiences and attributes they were looking for. but hey, those stats should get you in somewhere 🙂

rejected pre-secondary. i find it odd because i've received interview invites from all the other UCs, but a similar thing happened with my friend who is applying this cycle.

best of luck to all you who are interviewing here!
