Just got secondary tonight!!! This has been the best news I've heard in my application process so far
I did not hear anything from UCLA or UC Davis and was feeling so bad! Got a secondary from UCSD though.
Verified 7/20, LizzyM ~73, OOS

If you're OOS you're unlikely to hear from Davis just FYI.

Just got my secondary today! Verified 7/12, Lizzy M 68.5, IS. Does anyone think it is worth filling out the secondary with my stats. MCAT 506, GPA~3.9, average EC's and really good LORs

Yes; you received a secondary because UCSF liked what it saw.

Finally got a secondary yesterday! Submitted today. Verified 7/15. LizzyM ~75.

Has anyone who was verified in August received a secondary yet?
I was very recently verified so know not to expect it in the next couple of weeks but was wondering if they were sending them out in a certain order!

So we can assume that they don't send them out based on order of verification. Some people receive them a few days after verification and some a few weeks to a month after verification.

So if we are applying to just the MD there really isn't much to add on this secondary right? Has me a little worried since my stats and EC's aren't great. Really counting on those LOR.

Anyone know something about how they give out secondaries? What exactly on our apps to they read beforehand (PS, LORs, activities)?

I'm curious about this too. I know it doesn't include LORs. They only look at those after the preliminary screen according to the website.

So if I'm just submitting for MD, what am I paying $80 for. There is literally nothing to add on this application.

There are a good amount of non-trads and recent college grads who do have something to add. I agree, though, that it can feel repetitive for some.

Yeah, I thought so too seeing that they ask us to submit LORs after the secondaries are sent in. Yet, I know a few schools who ask the same, but occasionally look at LORs if they have already been sent in. Still left wondering what else they consider...

Does anyone know if applying to one of the joint programs increases your chances of acceptance or must you get in to the regular MD first?

Can't really speak on their behalf, but I've attended several Q&A sessions with members of their adcom. The best answer I can gather from my fuzzy memory is that they do a very holistic review of their applicants; they really seem to really go beyond numbers and look for those who have demonstrated passion for everything they do, not just for medicine.

I'm not sure about PRime but if you do JMP they're completely separate admissions processes where admitance to one doesnt affect the other.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but is there an email confirmation before a secondary is sent?

Haven't received a secondary yet.

Sometimes I wonder why I throw so much money into applying for schools I know I wont get into. the cost of submitting this secondary was like 6 hours of work for me, and my LizzyM is around a 70-71 only. 🙁 do you guys think it means much to get a secondary in the first place from UCSF? or is it just a strict minimum GPA/MCAT cutoff?

approximately 25% of applicants receive a secondary, so it is definitely an honor. it isn't a strict minimum GPA/MCAT cutoff--they read everything besides your recommendation letters, which are saved for the post-secondary screen. don't be down on yourself, the fact they expressed interest in you should make you optimistic and excited if anything! 🙂

Does anyone know about UCSF's pre-interview application update policy? I have not been able to find any information from them about this. I know some schools will accept updates via email, and I have a pretty cool new EC that I would love to be added to my application.

Yea, I asked them a while back and they said this,

"Thank you for your email. Applicants may provide an update in the Additional Information section of the secondary application. After the secondary has been submitted, the next opportunity to provide an update will be if you are invited for an interview."

Just received the secondary! MCAT scores came in 8/23 so guessing I was "complete" 8/25-8/26 or something.

Eek!!! So excited

do u mind sharing when you submitted your primary to ucsf?

I submitted the primary around the second week of August. Don't know the exact date, but they don't accept primaries without MCAT scores, so don't think that date matters.

Oh okay I've been verified here since 8/16 so still waiting :/ if their screening is linear then it seems like I won't be getting one
