2016-2017 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also, does anyone know the different statuses for applications? I received an email stating that my app is complete weeks ago, though when I check the portal the status is Submitted. This sounds paranoid, but is that synonymous for complete, and what are the different statuses?

Mine has said something like "file is complete and under review" for weeks now. Not that exact wording, but close.

Well, this is the Status message when I view details,
"Status Message
Your file is now complete and under review. Reviews may take up to several months and could include some "on hold" time while we compare groups of applicants. Thank you in advance for your patience during this lengthy period of time."

I guess this, combined with the Submitted status, means that the app is complete but not under review at this point. I guess I'll heed their advice and be patient🙂

Looks like Michigan reviews apps with and without LOR equally?

Feeling you get inside when you realize your #GoBlueMed file is COMPLETE once your primary & secondary apps are done

Also, is there a tracker somewhere on their site for all II?

Supposedly last year they announced some date and then didn't actually send any IIs until the next week.

Their Twitter doesn't have any more information, neither a confirmation nor a denial of their original July 18th initial interview invite date.

I actually called them because I was curious and the person I talked to said they usually send out their invites on Monday, but for some reason they didn't send out any today. Weird.

I checked last year's thread, at least last year the tweet said first interview invites will go out "this week" and everyone just assumed they would come Monday. Last week's tweet explicitly said 7/18!! Resisting the urge to refresh my inbox 85 times a day.

Well, there's still time in the day! Also, I am not resisting the urge at all lol. I have a problem.

Did they explicitly state that none were being sent out today? Or did they just say they haven't sent any yet?

They just said they hadn't sent any out today. I don't know if that means they will or not.

They just tweeted that a batch of IIs was just sent out. Let the furious email refreshing commence!

Wasn't one of the lucky ones. Did they say there were only 72?
I read the tweet as they sent out the first batch of interviews out of 72 batches that they send out. Trying to stay optimistic.

I know it's hard to stay optimistic, but its still really early. They only sent 13% of their total interviews today.

For those who got II's, were your letters in? Slash when were you complete

Congrats!!

Did people have a status message other than "Your file is now complete and under review" before receiving the II?

Perhaps they're going through in order of completeness?
Per last few years, the rock stars get first dibs on II, us mere mortals waited until September/October for II. Be patient (it is hard, I know). My app was complete early July, didn't get II until September for an interview in Dec (got moved up to Nov due to a cancellation).

My brother is now an M3 at U of M, and he didn't get an II until October for January (when he was going to be out of the country). Ended up getting an interview moved up to early Dec (with 2 day notice, but we both live in Ann Arbor, so locals get to fill in when cancellations happen later in interview cycle).

If you a 38 equivalent with a 3.9+ GPA, you should most likely get a II even if you didn't attend a top school. If you attended Michigan, or Michigan resident, you could get a II with much lower credentials as opposed to OOS students.

Hmm. I'm a 3.97/521 from one of the top 3 OOS schools represented at UMMS, hopefully I didn't shoot myself in the foot by submitting this one just after the 2-week mark. *regret regret regret*
