2016-2017 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The main thing keeping me hopeful is they've given 144 invites so far. Their 5 year average is 387 invites given to june/July applicants.....

Where did you find this?

FWIW, the slow pace of II's each week combined with the fact that they still have yet to release like 3/4 of their total II's is comforting. I'd personally freak out more if they released 100 II's on a #UMichMedMonday and I didn't get one because I'd think they were being super-liberal with the invites and I couldn't even make that cut.

Heart skipped when I saw they mentioned musical theater in the tweet because I wrote about that in one of my secondary essays, but my inbox got no love from UMich

in-state, complete 6/29, and radio silence...I kind of want to fling myself down in front of the admissions office yelling "WHY WON'T YOU LOVE ME???" 🙁

Seeing as I submitted my secondary less than a week ago, I probably shouldn't fret over not receiving an II today...
@liquidsodium, if you didn't receive an email, you were notified of your II in the "View Checklist" portion of your secondary, correct? If not, where were you notified of your II?
She's joking. She didn't get one.

For my interviewees: How are you guys approaching the team question on what is essentially a tertiary application? I debating between research and a class group project. I've spoken a lot on research on my AMCAS, and I'd essentially be spewing the same stuff. On the other hand, the class project didn't really amount to anything. Another option is one of my two club activities, which I could expand on a bit from my AMCAS. Thoughts?

EDIT: Another option is clinical volunteering, though they might roll their eyes.

Given how many iis they've given out already and how many they tend to give to June/July folks, probably not worth throwing my hat in at this point, is it?

I don't think they've even hit a quarter yet. And I think the June/July this is MOSTLY correlation, not causation. If you have the money, it's worth it.

Anyone else majorly overthinking their interview confirmation form?? Haha I'm struggling to get back into writing mode for the team essay, and every fun fact I can come up with that fits their format is either weird, boring, or supremely dorky. I'm so super grateful for the II but ahh, I thought I was done writing my applications. Need to get motivated again!!!

I was thinking of talking about a club or a group project. Research could work too though. Honestly maybe just go with whichever one would be more interesting to talk about in interviews!

Another week another disappointment

I started off this cycle very confident in my app, and positive I would get some early invites. 6 weeks in and still nothing. My confidence is getting ground into smaller and smaller bits each passing week. Especially these mondays.

Keep your head up and don't stop believing in yourself. From your posts you seem to have special circumstances because you want to stay in-state, but you are not out of the running by any means. It is still early in the game. Keep in mind they only sent 10 invites today as per their twitter account. There are many more interview slots available.

damn...
felt like my app was going really well near the start of the cycle, but now going on 3 or 4 weeks without word from anywhere. maybe they all discovered my salty, unprofessional comments on SDN...

edit:
scratch that. looked at my mdapps and realized my last II was like a week and a half ago. everyday of this cycle seems like a week lol
