2016-2017 University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill Application Thread

Just met a MS3 who said his roommate got in off the waitlist the day before classes. I hope those who hold multiple acceptances this year don't procrastinate for the sake of us on the wait list. -_-

That was probably somebody who had to decline their acceptance all of a sudden rather than someone who held multiple acceptances... from what I understand, schools pressure students who haven't declared where they're going after April 30th.

At my interview Ms. James said that someone was accepted within a few days last year as well... crazy

the other explanation could be deferrals that just don't get finalized until late summer

We do anticipate most of the waitlist movement will be over the next two weeks, yeah?

May I inquire as to how you know this? Earlier in this thread there was some discussion about how the AAMC traffic rules are pretty vague. I know one student last year that held multiple acceptances until June and she was never given a deadline or pressured in anyway.

Well, yeah, the AAMC traffic rules are vague, so there's no way to know exactly how each school handles it, but they say:

"6. After April 30, implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs.

a. Each school or program should permit applicants:

1. A minimum of five business days to respond to an acceptance offer. This may be reduced to a minimum of two business days within 30 days of the start of orientation.

2. Submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.

b. Recognize the challenges of applicants with multiple acceptance offers, applicants who have not yet received an acceptance offer, and applicants who have not yet been informed about financial aid opportunities at schools to which they have been accepted.

c. Permit applicants who have been accepted or who have been granted a deferral, to remain on other schools' or programs' wait lists. Also, permit these applicants to withdraw if they later receive an acceptance offer from a preferred school or program."

That's all I got

This may already have been posted, but when does orientation start?

Also, if we get accepted mid/late-summer, does the acceptance come with financial aid info? Or do we have to wait a few weeks after accepting to receive that info?

Sooooo... not to provoke all of our anxieties again, but... do you think ad com meets to discuss wait list or it's more of a case-by-case basis thing?

My guess is there is some sort of discussion. I am guessing they pick someone off the waitlist who is similar to the person who dropped off. Or at least gender wise... not sure if they would want another white male if a white male dropped.

why am I here. I need to go back to pretending I have no chance of getting off the waitlist. erg.

.......yes...what are you doing on here....checking your alerts and letting your heart skip a beat when it sees that someone has replied to this godforsaken thread because who knows it MIGHT be news that your adcom has recently decided that s/he will now be notifying people of their acceptance via the 2016 - 2017 University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill Application Thread...........

:whoa:

Has all of the financial aid stuff been released for UNC? I feel like movement happens after that...

(my other acceptance has not released yet, which is why I am wondering. I figured they would have by now)

The waitlist has started to move already. I just got word yesterday that I was accepted off the waitlist! Good luck to all of y'all still waiting I know the anxiety was brutal. I was starting on next cycle's app already in case I didn't get in, but I'm so happy I don't have to go through all that again lol.

@Orthopod09 congratulations! How were you notified of your acceptance?
I received an email stating my application status had changed. I went ahead and called to verify what the change was and they told me I had been accepted. I just got the pre-orientation email as well so currently working on that.

Hey yall,
Longtime lurker of this thread, but wanted to let yall know I just got off the waitlist Friday. I got an email that my application status was updated on Thursday, then got the email Friday. Instate and LM of 67.7. Good luck to everyone else!
Love,
Yomama

Woohoo got accepted off the wait list!
Is there a facebook group? I want to start figuring out where I am living!

Good luck to anyone else waiting or next year.
Yes there is! Just email Joni and someone will add you. There are about a billion housing posts on the FB group.

Has it just been guys getting pulled from the waitlist? Have any women heard back yet? I've noticed only guys have posted being accepted so far.

if i recall I believe UNC's LizzyM is something like a 68 or 69; how many people (in state) with above a 69 get in? Is it pretty much everybody unless you don't have volunteering, have a bad LOR/interview etc? I notice they interview about half their IS applicants which is pretty good

I noticed that too! No love for any of us ladies.

LOL if it makes you feel better I'm a guy on the waitlist and have heard nothing 🙂
With the way things have been going, you may hear back soon since you are a guy lol. 😉 Good luck! Hope this week brings us all good news from UNC.

Just realized I may have an issue with some vaccinations not being on time for the due date. Totally my fault. Any idea if this could be a larger issue? I've seen that some UNC Pharm accepted applicants were withdrawn for not meeting the dates...

🤢🤢🤢🤢

Has anyone heard anything recently? This thread has been really quiet!

Perhaps those that are going elsewhere already gave notice and things are settling down? I hope I'm wrong but am planning for not getting in off the waitlist this late.

hey, not sure if people care about this thread anymore but I had a question I asked a while ago

what are the prospects of getting in to UNC with median or above median stats if you are in state? I notice they interview almost half of their in state applicants which is pretty high - are you almost guaranteed a chance with median+ GPA/MCAT? anybody with a 3.7/512 or higher NOT get in?

I know many people with significantly higher stats than their median who didn't get in from in-state. I also know a lot of people with very low stats who got in pretty early.
what do you think they are lacking?
