Hey guys! Has anyone gotten an interview yet? I submitted my secondary 7/22 and looked online and it says its been reviewed... But nothing yet.. Thanks!

Early decision interviews are usually offered during the first few weeks of September.

Hey I remember the pain you're currently going through: uncertainty and doubt about the future- feeling like the odds were a mountain against me. Feels amazing to be on this side, but there are some serious cons that come with all of this amazingness.

Invites have been sent out and I have one on the 11th. I applied Early Decision. They take place on Mondays and Fridays. Hopefully the storm takes a sharp right and the university stays open.
Any interview tips from current FSU-COM students?

Congrats and good luck! 🙂

You will have two interviews that will each be about an hour in length and 1-on-1 with a faculty member. Very relaxed setting. Keep in mind that FSU has become much more selective in who they extend interview invites to, so if you got one, then they must really like you. Last cycle, they only interviewed 280 students for 120 slots + 12 for the BRIDGE program. This was down from 302 the year prior.
Just be yourself and relax! It'll be mostly conversational and less of an interview vibe.

Did they ask questions about your personal statement? Should I do homework on healthcare politics?

Congrats! You should definitely go through your primary and FSUCOM secondary applications as well as your personal statement because they will bring up things that may set you apart from other applicants.

The most political healthcare question I had was if I were president and could change anything about healthcare, what would it be?

That being said, both interviews I had were very chill and conversational. They really just want to get to know you and why you want to become a doctor. It was awesome how much FSUCOM goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable, so just relax and be yourself.

Hey guys! How long after you submitted your secondary did you see updates regarding the status?

Do you guys think its too late in the game to submit secondary here? 3.7c/3.7s...3.9 grad gpa, 518, IS...I know FSU isn't really numbers driven so I'm not sure if its worth it at this point in time

Not too late to submit a secondary. I was deferred to regular MD, from ED, after interview. I also have higher than average numbers. I believe I was deferred because of an unusual family status.

Sorry, but what does "unusual family status" mean?

random question, where do most FSUMed students live in Tallahassee? I want to avoid the undergrad party areas, but not be too far from campus
I don't know where med students live specifically, but your best bet for a non-party area is a house north of Tennessee St., or off Jackson Bluff. Most apartments, especially near the stadium get rowdy on Thursdays and weekends.

Any interviews go out yet for regular candidates who didn't apply ED?

First round of interviews for regular admission were last Friday and there was another group today. ED acceptances were due on October 1st so they are done.

Gotcha. They must be going out to people who don't post on SDN!

I know that at least three ED individuals were deferred to the regular admissions pool. We will be "reconsidered".

I retook the MCAT and just received my scores back. They are (thankfully) above the FSU average and way better than my first test. I know AMCAS automatically updates your scores in their system. Is it necessary to also send an email to the admissions email address to confirm that they have received my new scores? Or is that overkill?

Side note: I interviewed and was waitlisted at FSU COM last year. And (I think) it was mostly because of my low MCAT score.

Has fsu sent any rejections yet?
That's what I'd like to know! Submitted mid-Aug & my applications been 'under review' ever since. I'd really just like to know if I've been rejected already tbh, the silence & ambiguity is worse than preparing for the MCAT!😆

I don't think FSU including most other medschools will start sending out rejections until sometime in 2018. I have a number of friends who didn't receive any interview invitations from FSU and were rejected pretty late in the cycle around April.

I would go ahead and notify them via email.

It depends. I personally live about 3 miles away from school in the Tharpe/Hartsfield area. There are several students who in that area and some have places on the other side of town behind bass pro shops. It all depends on how far away you are willing to be from the University. Rule of thumb though, the further away = less undergrad population. I would recommend, if you are able to, check out listings on trulia, rent.com, zillow and then come drive around and take a look at them a month or two before school starts.

There are plenty of places to live in Tallahassee much safer than the area the med school is. Also its expensive to live near the campus. Parking isn't that bad if you leave your house early, plenty of garages.

The garage closest to the med school is always one of the emptiest too.

As an undergrad who goes to FSU. If you don't mind undergrads, there's plenty of really nice apartments that are within walking distance of the medical school. Another piece of advice, parking is terrible at FSU. if you get to the parking garage after 9, you're not getting parking. I personally don't live close to campus anymore, but i loved when i did because of all the gas money and time i saved.

Most people say they want to avoid the party scene in medical school, but i'm sure there will be occasional points of downtime on the weekends, and you guys will want something to do. If you visit FSU, make sure to check out collegtown as well. It's a great little spot for the "unwinding" that i think we'll all occasionally need in med school.

So I'm kindova bonehead and when FSU's app asked for my (Old) SAT score I forgot that it's just the Read/Math portion sum & instead gave them the sum of all three scores. Any ideas on how I should address this discrepancy?😱

I'd probably just send an email.
