2017-2018 Nova Southeastern University

I just received a call from admissions today asking if I was still interested in interviewing at this school. Apparently they emailed me back in the middle of January with an interview invite and I never received it. I checked all my email, my junk email... I have nothing from them. My interview was supposed to be for this upcoming Friday but thankfully she is going to email me some more dates they have in March. I haven't had any problems receiving emails from any other schools or even the previous NSU MD emails about completing my secondary. Did anyone else experience this issue? I am really bummed and I hope that it doesn't effect my application or chances of acceptance because I am interviewing later.

The same exact thing happened to me. I submitted the secondary the first week it was released and I emailed late December to ask if they received all my application materials, and they said they sent me an invite and never heard from me so they had to give my spot up to someone else. Luckily they were able to schedule me for about 2 weeks after their original date. Ever since then I made them aware of my difficulty receiving emails and I haven’t missed one since, I’m not sure why my undergrad institution (FSU) might have filtered them out.

Edit: it doesn’t hurt your chances either. This all happened to me and I got accepted.

Dang I was really interested in this school but I’m not sure now knowing that they’re accepting FSU students 👎

Well that’s reassuring to hear! My email is also FSU. Dang FSU email trying to hold us back from med school! I gave her my gmail to use from now on. I’m glad they called me and didn’t just pass me up.

Do you guys think it’s worth it to email them about an updated timeline for hearing back about pre-interview decisions? I emailed them asking for an update in December, and they emailed back that I would hear from them soon. Reading about lost emails is making me kinda hopeful/nervous too. I also know that they’re new and very busy and don’t want to hound them too much

So I'm on the exact same boat. Also emailed in late December after the 2-3 week window and they said the same. I just emailed Ms. Reid this morning because these lost emails made me nervous and it's been quite some time without an update. I understand they are doing their best, but this is my first option for various reasons and I'm just trying to stay positive despite the silence.

Let me know if you hear anything back! I also emailed today and am keeping my fingers crossed on getting a response soon!

Could just be a busy day, but her prompt reply back in December makes me think no reply today means some kind of decisions are going to be sent out today/tomorrow. Could also just be me being hopeful lol

Any updates yet from those that emailed them about preinterview timelines? Still no response from my end

Yeah I got that response too! The only problem is I got the same response in December

seems like some people received pre-II rejections....any indication as to what could be going on with those of us who submitted in December but have yet to hear anything? Any insights as to what this school is looking for in an applicant?

I think the interview pool has been extraordinarily diverse. I think for a private school, they value IS more than most. They told us at my interview (their very first one) they weighted the secondary VERY heavily in deciding who to interview. MCATS seem to matter less than at some schools, since I've seen both interviewees and accepted individuals with a range of scores. I think overall...they are pretty holistic

What have you the impression that instate was a factor in admissions? Just curious because I haven’t seen anything to indicate that.

So the email today made it sound a bit like maybe they are not planning to offer free tuition to the incoming class because they are just beginning to consider scholarships.

Unless they plan to offer everyone one after traffic day?

That's what I thought originally was going to happen. They might give everyone 10,000s of aid instead, but I think that they would just cover everyone would be unlikely

That could be. Even if they offered me 10-20K a year that would make a tremendous difference

I haven't seen anything official, it's simply an observation. However, out of the 20 people present at my interview...18 were IS. A significant number of those accepted are as well, although OOS are represented too. I think it's plays at least a small role, the numbers are too skewed for it to be a coincidence.

Could also be more people in Florida knew this school was opening an MD program. There wasn't really any big national announcement

True. I'll rephrase then; Interview invitations and successful admissions are positively corelated with IS residence. This may or may not reflect actual preferances of the admissions committee....

There you go!

Have 1/12 interviews heard back yet? Or do you all think that 1/12 will be combined with decisions from the 1/26 and 1/19 group?

Can someone PM me Sandra Moses's email? I need to contact her about my interview invite mix-up and she did not give me her email or phone number.

So just to make sure I understand the process:

1. We submit deposit when they send us email in the next 2 weeks

2. We then hear about scholarship offers from here after we submit deposit in mid-march.

3. We then have until the end of April to contact Nova to withdraw our app from here if we want to go elsewhere or contact all the other schools withdraw our app from everywhere else if we wish to go here

Is that correct?

So the orientation event on the Facebook..Is that like a secret way of finding out if we are choosing to attend their school or not?? Because I’m confused lol

I think that its the same as a "second look day" they just put their own spin on it. Most schools have one (I'm going to another one in March) and it's a time to ask questions, check out places to live, etc. Usually, they have a lot of students on hand to talk about the little things they found useful in adjusting or special about the school (many schools know that you are still choosing at this point). Obviously, there won't be students at NSU's day, but they can go in depth to answer questions in a way that they couldn't at the interview.
I actually think its orientation right before we start classes. Second look for NSU is in April according to their timeline online. We're supposed to start in August so having orientation right before then makes sense.

Yeah I just saw that it was July.

So within 2 weeks of acceptance the deposit is due?

I think that is correct besides #2. If you sent that form to them, you are automatically considered for a scholarship, but I may be incorrect.

Also congrats to those accepted!
