2017-2018 Nova Southeastern University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They said today that 1/5 was reviewed at the meeting yesterday, so I assume they will find out beginning of next week seeing how Fridays are busy with interviews. The 16 acceptances were from the initial three interview days, so averaging ~5 acceptances per interview. Rest receive waitlist. They expect to interview 360 candidates, so with 130 acceptances going out, we have a 36% chance! Good luck!
Did they say that? Or was the rest just waitlisted* automatically? Because I was in the first group to interview and I have yet to receive a response.

Has anyone else who interviewed prior to dec16 not heard back yet? Because the op comment make it seems like we should have at least received the WL email

This is great info - thanks so much!

Considering that there arent going to be any post-interview Rs, I’d say those that don’t hear back immediately (i.e., when others from their interview day hear back) are probably in the “deferred review” group. So that’s good to know!
This actually make sense.

Hmmm Jamie said everyone would find out their decision (acceptance/WL/deferred), so not sure why you haven’t heard. Deferred and still in the running for a flat out acceptance makes most sense to me.

Interviewed today, just providing additional information

1. <2000 applications received
2. Committee plans to give out 130 acceptances
3. 16 acceptances across 4 interview dates (80 people?) have been given out. They just looked at the interviews from the first week of January this past week
4. Large focus on leadership, teaching and innovation
5. Current focus is providing scholarships to students in need. They said even with the donation this past weekend they are unsure if they could fund the inaugural class, even for 2 years
6. There are lectures, just not mandatory. It's not all PBL, but a significant chunk is
7. Anatomy has been shortened down and is less intensive than other courses offered to make room for other things
8. 4 weeks for admissions decisions. No one will be rejected post-interview this cycle

Are you able to share a little more about #5. What donation happened this past weekend? And what's this about funding the inaugural class.... do you mean like, they don't have enough operational funds to keep the school running for two years? I guess I'm not understanding. It would be great if you or anyone else who interviewed there could share a little more!

They definitely have the funds to keep the school running haha
The donation everyone is talking about is regarding scholarships or tuition for the inaugural class.

So is there anyone who hasn' heard back from their ( 12/1 to 12/15) interviewa? Because I hope I am not the only one.

I would just call them if I were you

Funny, becuase i told them i wouldnt mind how long it took for them to review our apps. I know a few people got WL'ed but i doubt everyone was. If indeed everyone from the first two groups heard back then i will call/ email them for a potential update (which i really dont want to do).

good info.

Did they specify if the 130 acceptances were to fill the initial 50 seats, or does that figure include all anticipated waitlist movement?

I would assume it was an estimate of how many offers they’d extend throughout the cycle (i.e., not a definite number). That’s way too high a number of active offers to have in place for a class of 50. It’d risk the possibility of having to rescind an acceptance.

Yes, it's regarding free tuition for the 1st class. She worded her statement carefully, and for one never actually mentioned the word free tuition, which I found interesting.

The way I heard it was that it was the number of initial acceptances, but I could be wrong. They said they knew the first people accepted were unlikely to all attend

I would think the 130 acceptances include anticipated waitlist movement. That would mean a catch ratio of 2.6 (130 acceptances / 50 spots) which is reasonable for a brand new school.

Yep, that’s my thinking as well. Most new schools end up with around a 1/3 matriculation/admittance yield from what I’ve seen.

As I mentioned before, sending out 130 right off the bat would be a sizable gamble, as they could potentially be left having to take back an acceptance. It’s almost definitely just an estimate of total acceptances that will be offered in order to fill the class.

Edit: I’ll also add that, at my interview day, they said something to the tune of “we know we won’t get all of our *initial 50*”. Granted, that was a few weeks ago. But still.

12/15, have not heard back yet - hope that helps.

Maybe we will hear back soon.

+2, but I was thinking it may come Tuesday or Wednesday if anything since they meet on Tuesdays correct?

You're more than likely right, although some people on here were saying they went over 1/5 interviewees last week already, so who knows...

mental anguish intensifies

Good luck to you all! I'll be hoping for a response next week!

Prior poster said there will be no post-II rejections. We can assume it was pre-II.

yeah except i take everything anyone posts on here with a grain of salt and since i didnt hear that on my interview day i dont put much faith into that statement

Not saying that statement is law. I think skepticism is fair as well. But, with them being a new school, new developments in the app process being announced at later interview dates makes sense. Doubtful the person who reported the no post-II rejections thing would’ve made it up.

In addition, the poster also has no history of saying anything on this thread in the past. Like I said, we can *assume* it was pre-II with all things considered.

I was the one who said it. I didn't make it up. I specifically wrote it down when she said it, though I get skepticism 🙂

When I first read your post, I interpreted it as "No post-II rejections will be coming out on X date." But it sounds like you got the impression that everyone who gets an interview will get at least waitlisted, indefinitely? Which would be, not bad! lol. It would make sense for a new school to have a long wait list, since they'd have no way to judge what their yield would be this cycle.

Also rejected (pre interview) here. I just submitted my secondary Sunday night so that’s a hell of a turn around lol. Wondering what the red flag was and how everyone else who got interviews answered their secondary questions. Super bummed right now

Yes! She said that word for word. I guess it makes sense when you think about it!

Guys I got 10 comments on this thread while I was in class so I panicked when I didn’t have my post interview decision. Turns out they never came. Y’all suck!

Wow, yikes! That sounds like a pretty hasty decision on their part.

Any chance they will still send out decisions on 1/5 interviewee's today?

Weird that it is taking so long to get post-interview responses. At my interview I was told that they were caught up with reviewing applications and we should expect to hear back in 2 weeks about a decision. They also stated that based on other schools they have talked to, they expect to admit approximately 120-150 applicants to fill 50 spots

it seems like 4-6 weeks is more accurate for post interview decisions, so i dont know why they are telling everyone 2-3 weeks

interviewed 12/15 and still haven't heard back

They told my 1/12 interview group that the wait is about 4 weeks!

Rejected pre-interview by email, was complete 12/1

Sitting on 7.5 weeks post interview now... Seems like the 4-6 week time frame is for people who are getting accepted outright. The rest of us who weren't that stellar are clearly going to have a much longer wait.

Mentioned this in a prior comment, but seeing as they allegedly are not rejecting post-II, and they’ve sent out both acceptances and waitlists for various interview groups, I believe that those sitting in a long period of silence post-interview are probably in the deferred review group. In other words, you all are likely between those who have been waitlisted outright and those who have been accepted outright. Of course, this is just speculation. But it wouldn’t be a bad thing if it were truly the case. Also, it’d be nice if they communicated the deferred review status as well.

I agree - if I am on deferred review, it would be great to know that. I may email them if I don't hear anything at all by the end of the week. I'll take one for the team and let everyone else here know what's going on with those of us in silence. 🙂

I said it before, and I may be alone in my opinion, but just call! Jamie is super helpful and I’m sure she would give you an update. It’s completely reasonable to ask for a status update when it’s been that long with silence. I know I would have called by now. Good luck!

I would say you shouldn’t take one for the team because you want to go here so badly. I highly doubt it would be an issue, but why risk it? We’re all well aware that they seem to be adjusting to growing pains and that’s to be expected. Just let it pan out a little bit longer, I’m sure they’re doing their best to manage a massive undertaking.

Yeah honestly just call and ask. You’ve been waiting a while. It’s not like they’ll be mad or will negatively impact your application. Just be nice on the phone
